Sedition Restaurant & Bar
Fri, Sat 11:30 am–2:00 am

This hidden gem sits in a basement location on Walnut between 7th and 8th, tucked away amongst shovel and pipe sconces for lighting, two awesome bars, little nooks to meet and talk to friends, and two separate private dining rooms besides the main one. It is a huge place but feels intimate nonetheless. We came for brunch on Sunday and it was DEEE lish. I had a special omelette of the day that was fluffy and light, and my husband had the braised pork hash, both were sumptuous and filling. Our waitress, Sa was always attentive and responsive. I like this place; it is has a nice feel and is really cozy. With the cold winter in full speed ahead, this cozy underground place is a fun place to go to get out of the cold. Hoping to go back with a big group and sit in the U-shaped nook, which is perfect to socialize in with our own private tv's to watch the game! Cheers to the staff, keep up the good work!
The cheese plate special, the spinach salad and pork chop entree were very good. Very disappointed in the chicken parm special. Little mozzarella on the chicken and the chicken was burnt.
Great service. Cheese tray was nice, entrees less than spectacular. Shepherd pie mostly mashed potatoes. Apple pie in a skillet as barely warm.
The food was mediocre, I ordered a grilled cheese w/ out bacon which came out with bacon. I also ordered the potato soup and received the French Onion and had to wait for my soup. We ordered the the cheese board, which was very slim. My date had the gnocchi, he said it was very cheesy for his taste. We each had 2 drinks and the bill came to $94! We agreed that it was not worth the price and will not return.
The food was great and the staff especially the manager Brian was very accommodating. Thank you all for the great evening.
Great food. Excellent management. Terrific server.
This was our third time at Sedition (The first time the restaurant was called "Six Feet Under") We came from the American Revolution Museum the first time, and before the Walnut Street Theater the last two times. They accomodated large parties brilliantly (party of 16 in a back room and a party of 7 this last time in a private room. The wait staff is exceptional, knowledgeable and attentive. Cocktails are unusual and great. The vegetarian offerings (which many of our party needed) are fantastic. We ended up this last time splitting appetizers and salads among the 7 of us, many of us had the squash soup special - exceptional. We even managed to split two desserts among the 7 of us. (Wait staff graciously brought over clean plates and spoons/forks). We highly recommend this restaurant.
Excellent food and service. Will definitely go back again!
Had dinner with 9 others. Everyone enjoyed the small plates and mains. We tried much of the menu, all very good! Definitely recommend.
Service was amazing and super accommodating! All the of the staff congratulated us individually on our special occasion, the manager/owner (I couldn’t tell) welcomed us to the restaurant and then came to us twice throughout the meal to check in and inform us that they’d like to give us a dessert on the house. Waiter was also super attentive and conversational. So kind and welcoming of them!
Food was, without a doubt, outstanding! We ordered the baby back ribs and the burger, then the pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. I was blown away and so full by the end of the meal.
100% would recommend. Please try out this Old City gem!
It's a noisy bar. Limited menu. Hamburger was good.
My first time there I was greeted and they made me feel at home, went over drinks and menu and when my date arrived Brittany our server was awesome! They also recommended a new drink on the menu the Dominator which I love. The appetizer and food was delicious.
Overall, the food was very well prepared and tasty. Interesting dishes.
The biggest knock i have is the draft beer selection was not too inspiring and the wines by the glass had no description. Your choices were Cabernet, Chablis, etc. Didn’t mention what the producer was or even the region.
Happy that we had an excellent lunch at Sedition. Know the restaurant has struggled to get the right menu, so happy that all is now good! We need a go to place in the Washington Square neighborhood!
Came with about 5 colleagues for a special retirement and birthday lunch. Great ambience and our food was delicious. Lunch menu is limited but all of it was amazing. Brussels sprouts salad was really good.
A decent location and well maintained but the sports bar atmosphere is lost. Dishes contained Ingredients that were not on the menu nor asked for (gnocchi had sausage in it and my wife had to pick it out). The desserts were decent but extremely overpriced for size and quality.
This is the most recent of several restaurants in this location. It is about a block from the Walnut Street Theater, and offers a discount if you are attending the show. The menu is limited but what we had was excellent. The baby back ribs were meaty, and my wife left no remains of the duck breast. There is a wide selection of beers on tap. We shared a bread pudding for dessert, but it was so large we couldn’t even finish. We will certainly return on our next visit to the Walnut.
Brian was fantastic at the bar. Small plate appetizers were delicious. Ribs were inedible. Cooked beyond recognition the sauced heavily. Drinks were fantastic.
Please service. Food was tasty and reasonably priced.
We were a group of 5 having dinner prior to the Walnut Street Theater (BTW offers a discount for WST goers). The waitress was attentive and helpful. The menu was smallish but eclectic and interesting and enough choices that we had a hard time deciding what we wanted. Vegetarian options were terrific!
Portions were huge (You might want to share some of the appetizers and salads)
The ice cream selections were "insane" and delicious (popcorn, redwine stand out). The Peach dessert was amazing We had a "flight" of 3 ice cream scoops
Would highly recommend it. We will be back
Regrettably very disappointing. The server took down the order wrongly and also totally ignored the serious allergies that was spelled out to him with a piece of paper. This caused the meal to come with all the wrong ingredients and almost caused a major issue with the individual that thankfully spotted it just before eating.
food was really good!
waiter was very attentive.
love the chicken and biscuits.
biscuit gravy was amazing
We were there in a Thursday even before going to the Walnut. It is a cool place with an underground vibe.
It was pretty quiet, but I would expect it to be a fun place on weekends. Food was good. Service was very good.
Will definitely return.
Came here with a group, we especially enjoyed the meatballs and the popcorn ice cream- definitely my favorite thing I had that night! I loved the atmosphere but was sad that the place was pretty much empty on a Friday night, there were a few people at the bar and only 1 other table that finished shortly after we arrived. We had a great time so I was surprised there weren't a lot of people.
New to the area, so chose the location based off of Google Reviews. They didn't disappoint! Had Sunday brunch with college friends who I hadn't seen in years, and we had a great time eating, laughing, and catching up. The food was delicious, our waiter was very attentive, and the quiet atmosphere was perfect (to be fair, it was pouring out, so perhaps its a bit louder when there are more people around). Would definitely return here for brunch, or even a drink after work.
Great private room for a large party (12 people probably could have fit more). Service was a little pushy and did forget part of one order. Overall good though.
This is a new restaurant
I wish they would combine the lunch and dinner menu
Some of the food had too many ingredients
I recommend the gespacho
Great food and cocktails! The homemade ice cream was great as well! Neat little hidden place in philly. Would recommend to friends
My friends and I brunch every week and had been to the location when it was Six Feet Under. We enjoyed the food and jazz music. When we tried their new incarnation, Sedition, we were extremely disappointed in the menu as well as the service. It was difficult to find anything on the menu that looked good and the service, even though the restaurant was not busy, was quite lackadaisical. We will not be returning there.
Waitress was great and the food was excellent. Last minute reservations for Mother's Day. My son found it on Open Table
Brisket hash. Mmmm. Lots of cool bloodys
Went for Mother’s Day. Food was really good, just a little pricey for brunch. I’ll definitely go back when I’m in Philly. Very cool decor and ambiance!
This was a fun place to take my college grad and our family for lunch after the ceremony. No crowds on an early Friday afternoon, delicious food, attentive service, and they accommodated our request to move our reservation up by 45 minutes (ceremony was mercifully quick :-) )
Special yums for the brussels sprouts appetizer!!
great food at great prices. Large portions. However, the live jazz on Thursday nights is my reason for going.
A little underwhelmed, cool restaurant and fun brunch spot.
Just a meet fun atmosphere / great food / service was on point and some great speak easy style cocktails
First Time at Six Feet Under - Great Brunch all around! Fabulous omelets - different and unique. Great taste. To get to restaurant very friendly steps to get to this jazz playing brunch. Jazz is a little loud but atmosphere was relaxing. Great waiter and staff. We will be back for sure!
Really enjoyed this neat place with unique basement location. Waiter was excellent!!!!!
First experience and it was wonderful. Simple menu, yet slightly creative. Something for every taste. Very cool decor-shovels and tree roots on brick walls. Our server, Ian, was tops! Great sense of humor and very efficient. Got us out in time for theater. Price right. Will DEFINITELY return.
My girlfriend and I catch up over drinks and dinner every few months. The menu here looked good and when I brought it up, she was very interested in trying it out, having just seen it highlighted on tv recently. We really enjoyed ourselves! Love the 1800’s gravedigger vibe to decor and menu item names. Food and drinks were excellent! Service was top notch. We weren’t rushed, even as they got busier with a Friday night crowd. Even as more people came in and both the bar area and dining area filled up, we could easily converse. I’ve recommended it at work several times already and would definitely go back.
