Exceptional food, attentive service and relaxing ambiance all lent itself to a great evening at Secco. Crunchy wonton taco shells stuffed with the most flavourful, tender wagyu beef, fresh tuna and avocado tartare, crispy Brussels sprouts and king oyster mushrooms, fries with truffle oil and parm are just a few delicious highlights from an outstanding dinner. My partner and I will definitely return the next time we are in Hamilton!

Restaurant Review: Secco – A Disappointing Dive into Flavor Overload I rarely feel compelled to write a negative review, but my recent experience at Secco was too underwhelming to ignore. While the ambiance promised an upscale fusion dining experience, the food—particularly the Chinese Five Spice Squid and the Spicy Salmon Sushi—fell flat in the most frustrating ways. Let’s start with the Chinese Five Spice Squid. What should have been a well-balanced dish turned into a palate-punishing mess. The seasoning was severely overdone—every bite overwhelmed by a clashing mix of anise, clove, and cinnamon that didn’t blend so much as battle on the tongue. The squid itself was rubbery, which only made things worse. It was more of a challenge to eat than a pleasure. Then came the Spicy Salmon Sushi on crispy rice, which sounded promising but delivered disappointment in spades. The "crispy" rice was stale and hard, not crisp—almost like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. The salmon topping lacked freshness, and whatever kick the spicy mayo might have had was lost in the dryness of the base. Overall, it felt like the kitchen was trying too hard to impress with bold flavors, but forgot the fundamentals—balance, freshness, and texture. For the price and reputation, Secco should be doing far better. I left with a lighter wallet and a heavy sense of regret. Definitely not returning anytime soon.

The food is top notch here!! This was my second time here and I would be back in a heartbeat. The Halo Halo dessert was the highlight - the best dessert I’ve ever had.

This is a cute little spot with a great brunch menu. We really enjoyed our time here. We were the only patrons for brunch which was a bit strange, since the space is small enough that our server really had no where to be other than at our table. Highly recommend the bennies, it’s worthwhile ordering home fries on the side. Plan ahead for parking!

Portions were generous, and the service was warm and attentive throughout the evening. Special mention to the cocktails. Expertly mixed and a highlight of the night. That said, while the experience was enjoyable overall, the execution of the food left room for improvement. The Brussels sprouts were over-fried and came out a bit too greasy, which set a heavy tone for the meal. In fact, much of the food leaned towards the rich and heavy side, with not enough variety or brightness to balance the dishes out. The restaurant's fusion concept also felt a little muddled. For instance, the short ribs were unmistakably Korean galbi—well-prepared and tasty—but were oddly described as Filipino-style. Similarly, the crispy rice sushi, while enjoyable, seemed more an iteration of a West Coast/LA TikTok trend than any Filipino culinary tradition. Apart from the adobo chicken (which we didn’t try), we weren’t entirely sure what else on the menu was actually Filipino. Still, Secco has a lot going for it in terms of atmosphere, service, and creativity. With some refinement in the kitchen and a bit more clarity or honesty in how the dishes are presented culturally, it could really shine. Would heartily recommend Secco as a pre-drink stop for a cocktail and a quick bite. Less likely that we'd sit down for a full meal there.

We went on a Sunday night and it was very quiet. We ordered the secco platter and the calamari. Both were very fantastic. The secco platter was on sale for $90 and I would highly recommend the platter. It has a great variety and great portion size. Food was delicious

Great service and wonder small plates to share. They even went above and beyond for our friends birthday. A wonderful night out.
