If you are concerned about getting Covid you may not feel comfortable here as people are sat very close to each other.
The music is waaay too loud and clubby. I think the overall experience would’ve been a lot better with quieter music.
Was able to make a reservation on a Thursday night. Were seated promptly but had to flag down multiple people to get out drink orders in. The food quality is good, the toro was delicious. However no ginger / wasabi etc was served, had to also flag down people for that as well. The music was extremely loud, which might just be the ambiance the restaurant is going for. In the end, the bill was extremely pricey, which just for the food quality wasn’t worth it in my opinion. COVID may have a part to play, but unless things change I wouldn’t go back.
Love this place. A great place to meet up with friends, date. They only have booths around the bar great location in Glendale very hip place to enjoy lunch or dinner.
Food was spectacular. Service was wonderful. The acoustics were loud and prices were expensive but quality was fantastic.
Our former haunt for great, authentic sushi and sashimi was sold by the star chef there and he has moved on. We had almost given up hope when we saw an instagram posting for this place. We made the trip and are very glad that we did. Fantastic food, beautifully presented, skillfully prepared and nuanced tastes. Substantial variety of daily special fish, focused on fresh, rare and authentic sashimi and suchi experiences. Some robatayaki selections too...loved the bacon wrapped asparagus and the chicken karaage was as good as one gets in Ginza District. Attentive and gracious service, busy but nice spacing between seats at the horseshoe shaped bar which is the only dining option. Music was loud, not unbearably. Very expensive, but in light of what we got, well worth it. Valet parking is pricey ($15 without gratuity) right in front. If you can walk a block or two public parking is much less. Definitely our new go to place for Japanese food.
The food was excellent and the staff was fantastic! It’s on the pricey side for sure but a great place to treat yourself to some VERY DELICIOUS sushi and handrolls.
Quick Summary: Very fresh and good food. On the pricier side and catered more towards non-asians.
Restaurant overall leans more toward American and catered toward the demographic that's less familiar with Asian/Japanese cuisine. There are many elements that hold to authentic Japanese food and vibes, but there are some fusion elements.
Interior is pretty basic, all stools/bar seating around the chefs. There are some cool decorations, the big fish at the back actually doubles as a coat rack. Ambiance is what you would expect in Glendale, kind of more hip/modern with an oriental twist. Music appears to be slightly older top hits from the radio, energetic vibe. It fits, but with the layout and attention to food, plating, and etc, I feel there are 2 elements clashing rather than harmonizing.
The dishware is beautiful, the setup is wonderful, and the chefs put a lot of attention and care into the food. 10/10
The servers could work a few things out. It took quite a long time to get checks and to place orders after finishing our plates. The service was very attentive in the beginning but slowed down toward the end. We had to ask for the check twice and overall it took around 10 minutes. What was odd was that, there were many servers present but many looked to be idling or were doing random tasks that were very low priority. I haven't been a server and I don't know if there was a huge dinner rush and they were taking a break so I don't want to be too harsh but I felt there could have been slight improvements here.
Our server, I felt, was too close to us when taking our order or explaining the menu. A few times when she was present, she was more or less in contact with us physically. And this is maybe just me being overly nitpicky, but hearing the names of the dishes being pronunciated incorrectly bothered me (we didn't correct but we would repeat the names in the correct pronunciation); on top of being explained the very basics of sushi related dishes
It was my kids birthday, and they treated us right! Food was exceptional, as was the service. Everyone was very kind. Great spot.
Way overpriced even for our standards. Have had better. Food wasn’t bad, but nothing special that will draw me back at that price. Sorry.
Overpriced, slow service…. Not my cup of tea…
Discovered this place only a week and a half ago and I’ve been back four times. I cannot stress how amazing the quality of their sushi is and how fantastic their staff and chef service is. Can’t wait for my next visit!
This is definitely a restaurant for people who admire high quality, fresh fish and are willing to pay for it. You might get more "bang for your buck" at other restaurants, but you get what you pay for. The sushi prepared for us at this restaurant was the closest thing to authentic sushi I've had in the states, and was worth every penny to me!
Enjoyed the omakaze experience. Fantastic.
Great new place that is so unique! Virginia, the owner and Christian the sushi chef couldn’t have been more hospitable! Best sushi, so fresh and exotic. Not your typical sushi restaurant with delicious plates. Very excited to go back and try more. Definitely a must try place if you want only the best! Wonderful experience!
Our first time there but everything was just perfect
Food was delicious and well prepared
Staff were all great
Searing is around the bar and
Thoroughly enjoyed the omakase for 2 special through open table ❤️
Amazing amazing! Obsessed with seaweed
Food was average. There was a fly around our area which disgusted us. I wanted a specific dish and the waiter was not familiar with it, even when I showed her the dish that had smoke under the glass dome.
The food is absolutely amazing. Best sushi hands down. The fish is extremely fresh, the flavors blend so well together. I highly recommend the salmon, toro, and truffle nigiris, and the spicy lobster, spicy scallop, and crab handrolls. I also trust the chefs here and oftentimes ask the wait staff to just bring the chef’s specials. They have never steered me wrong.
The price is reflective of the quality and freshness of the sushi. The prices are available on the menu and there is an 18% service charge, so there are never any surprises.
I cannot wait to be back!
Trin was the best! She made our dinner amazing. We’ll definitely be back
Had a fabulous date night! Delicious fresh sushi and tempura. Superb service and fun international music. A must place to dine at.
It’s a small sushi place, nice staff and great design! It is extremely overpriced for a sushi newbie and you walk out hungry having paid 90$. Would never recommend! For us, it was a complete waste of money, especially the nigiri specials (acquired taste and tiny nigiri). Might be a good place if you want to get a specific fish; also a bit concerning the amount of photo shooting - seems to be more about getting online promotion and hype rather than value for the customers.
Solid sushi options and fun upgrades available
the food was beyond expectations - we were there for lunch so it was quiet and lovely.
Everything was perfect, service was excellent and chef Jesse is unbelievable.
Cannot recommend this highly enough - GO and enjoy!
Best quality sushi in California
Fish is absolutely amazing. Wont be disappointed what so ever. Will be back most definitely
Amazing fresh sushi! Great service
Amazing sushi! And great sake choices. A fun lively atmosphere with friendly staff. Second time I’ve been there and the food is so good. I will definitely be coming back!
Amazing experience!! Hands down best sushi ever. Service was amazing food was amazing atmosphere amazing !! Def recommend
Omg the food here was incredible!! So so good. The salmon skin and the special hand roll were amazing
Wow if you want the best sushi this is the place!!!
After we gave checked in sat down at the sushi bar a woman came over and rudely asked if we did indeed have a reservation and asked for our names.
The only drinks available are only bottles of sake that start around $100 or a choice of two beers.
The bar is so packed you’re literally seated inches away from the next diner.(We are still Covid times so not within regulations)
The food is good but not exceptional.
The Armenian rap music is so loud you can’t have a conversation.
And finally when the bill came 18% was added on for the “staff in the back and front” but this did not include gratuities.
This was not only written on the bill but we were told this twice verbally.
So many better quality places in LA.
Amazing food and experience. We got the omakase and chef Haga just blew us away! We might go back again today for round 2! Highly recommend
Best sushi in town. This our second time going and we will go again and again. Sooo worth it!!!!
I am an armenian but the music choice wasn’t my favorite (armenian songs ) lol . Everything else was great . Food was amazing! My favorite is the red snapper !.
Not saying it’s bad, because it isn’t. The sushi is quite good. However, it is way too overpriced considering the quality, location and all else. I shouldn’t have a $350 bill for two people with the type of sushi and service they’re providing. Sugarfish offers better sushi for half the price. I’ll skip this place next time and try somewhere else.
