No substitutions! So I know Seastar is pricey going in. We decided to go for the fixed price menu for $39 for a limited number of entrees, salad and dessert. With an extra appetizer and two glasses of wine, my bill was $161 all in. I asked for rice instead of mashed potatoes with my entree. I was told forcefully no substitutes! Great, I will go elsewhere next time! Poor policy!! Poor management strategy telling servers to act like police!!
Service was rushed and server was horrible. Food was good as usual but this was the worst service we have ever had there.
Impeccable, attentive service and convenient indoor parking with elevators getting you right in (few places in downtown Bellevue offer this level of convenience). Food and wine options are rich and entertaining. I had my favorite swordfish and it was ideally cooked, as always.
Great meal and service!
Not a great experience. Very pricey and food was not fresh
Say in bar area. Service was great. Only had drinks so can't comment on food.
They double charged us and their poke doesn’t come with rice… disappointed
Seastar salmon & tuna belly nigiri was smooth, buttery, delicious!
Terrific food and top notch service
3/5 of us celebrated birthdays. We had such s lovely meal and service was impeccably. First time I’ve ever noticed the loud noise. Maybe it was the cackle at the next table and the loud table behind us but the underlying rumble was too noisy. We had a very important conversation and waited till some of the diners left. Then we shared a trip to Alaska fishing so the recipe could hear it.
The meals, service, sommeliers were all awesome
The service was excellent but our meals were disappointing for 3 people. Ahi tuna good but marinade was far too salty. Risotta cake lacked flavor . Scallops were excellent but what they were served with was a disappointment. For such a mediocre meal - the cost was not worth it. The bill with automatic added 20% gratuity plus 2 cocktails and one wine - came to $400.00 - not a bargain. Last time we were at Seastar was early March 2020 and the meal was great. This visit was not.
We all enjoyed our meal very much. The staff was helpful and attentive, without being overbearing. We've enjoyed Seastar before, and we'll be back.
The food was good but not great. Very expensive for the quality of the food served. Service was slow. Not a very good value, much better restaurants at much better prices.
Went for a bday dinner. Worked out great. Wonderful staff.
Seastar is always a treat! Sat in the bar for the first time and really enjoyed it! It's more laid back and fun than the dining room for a group in their 20's. The staff is great! The coconut cream pie is a must. It's my favorite dessert of all time, and I have very high standards for desserts. The mushroom wagyu burger with truffle fries and the jalapeño salmon roll from the happy hour menu were amazing. Great unique cocktails as well!
Not the fine dining experience from past years...we were definitely overdressed. Happy to see the restaurant survive the pandemic :).
So happy to be back at Seastar! John Howie does a wonderful job with fresh seafood, though a few post pandemic rough spots kept us from rating five stars.
So what’s awesome? The raw bar, the appetizers, and the service.
What need improvement? Some prices were crazy high, $75 Copper River salmon with basic preparation was slightly over cooked and good but not awesome. The recommended steelhead was fair at best as it was mushy and smothered in sauce.
But, we loved the crab bisque, the sushi, the pesto clams, and the seafood tower. The hamachi crudo was outstanding!
The 20% automatic service charge, with notice that it doesn’t go to the staff, was odd. So consider Seastar as a place with a ‘no tipping’ policy where ALL the prices (even wine) are 20% higher than listed on the menu. Not a great policy IMO.
We want to love Seastar, but not quite there yet.
Food was great, portions were more than adequate. Ambience was very nice. I also like the "show your vaccine card for a free cocktail" policy
Our server RD was phenomenal. Great great experience!
Sever was outstanding and food was excellent as always.
Food was great, a couple elements could have been better. Great cocktails. Excellent service.
Everything about this place is top notch. Great service great food great atmosphere, what more could you want!
Excellent meal and superb service. My favorite “special occasion” restaurant.
Unfriendly server. Very fresh oysters, good crab cocktail
Our favourite restaurant!
Food is not up to par with the prices being charged. Would not eat here again unless the food quality improves.
Amazing food as always. Prixe fix meal is a terrific value.
SeaStar is a great place for seafood.
The menu for food and wine is extensive.
The 3 course dinner menu had good choices and was a good value.
The Copper River salmon was prepared well but not a good value, compared to a similar salmon dinner we had.
We had an excellent birthday celebration! Just a wonderful night with great food and great service!
Excellent food, expansive menu, great service
My friend and I enjoyed our experience at Seastar this weekend. The staff was friendly, the food was great, and the wine list was one to grab your attention.
Above all, the restaurant was very proactive with their COVID-19 installments and best practices toward safety and sanitation.
We will be back and continue to support the team at John Howie Restaurants.
Great dinner for special occasions. Expensive, but the quality is top notch, service is professional and friendly. Best crab cakes I've ever had (and I've tried lots of them).
Food and service were great. The waiter we had was amazing. The only issue I have is when they brought the white wine out, they left the bottle on the table without it being in a wine bucket to keep it cold.
Everything was great. The service and the food. Thank you so much.
My guests and I arrived on time for a reservation confirmed several weeks ago. I called 20 min. prior to arrival to confirm my special request, to have 3 stems of Vueve Clicquot brought to our table upon being seated. The request for that label was integral and was confirmed. Upon checking in we were told they were cleaning a table and the wait would be 5 min. About 8 mins. later, during which several parties had been seated, the man from the desk told us they were cleaning our table and it would be 5 mins. About 5 mins. later a woman told us they were cleaning the table and our wait would be less than 2 mins. Finally we were seated but after 10 mins., no Vueve Clicquot. I finally caught a server and asked about my special request and after 10+ minutes 3 glasses of Nomine-Renard appeared. Shortly thereafter the man from the check-in desk came by and told me, in front of my guests, if I had requested it ahead of time they would have opened the bottle before our arrival and I should remember that for the next time. Since this was to be a special celebration, the Veuve Clicquot was an important part of the evening. It that wasn't available I should have been informed when I requested it. To bring something else without informing me was a very devious move on the part of Seastar.
So, not only was the wait for a pre-confirmed reservation totally unacceptable, and the confirmed request for immediate drink service ignored, but an entirely wrong label was slipped in assuming we wouldn't notice. After dining at Seastar many times, to have this happen on such a special occasion is beyond disappointing and unacceptable. After paying an almost $500 tab, which I fully expected to do, it will definitely be a long time before I place my trust in Seastar for a special occasion again.
On the only positive note, our server Jody was delightful, very helpful and efficient, and the food was very good.
Dear Ms. Ross. Thank You for sharing your experience on Open Table. John Howie and I personally read all comments good and bad and share them with our staff. I apologize for your most recent experience at Seastar. I feel personally responsible for not being prepared for your Special Occasion, for this I have no excuse. I also want to apologize for the way it was handled at the Front Desk. I appreciate your comments about Jody the server. Your comments have helped us to recognize a weakness and improve, so this will never happen again to any other Guest. Please respond to my personal email at markm@seastarrestaurant with an address so I can send an invitation for you to return, and experience the great service and food that we are known for. I look forward to serving you again soon. Sincerly, Mark Manca GM
The service and food were very good.
Food presentation was spectacular.
We will definately return again.
Shrimp and pineapple ceviche was wonderful as was my Ahi tuna entree. Always have received wonderful service and food.
Excellent food. Amazing service by RD. Had super enjoyable birthday party with a lot of fun!
We always enjoy our date nights when we frequent this restaurant. The wait staff are always attentive and helpful and the food and drinks/wine is always delicious! We are never disappointed!
