Seastar is a lovely concept, and there is certainly a niche for what they offer. What is that? Fresh seafood and a "fine dining" ambiance. They are one of the most expensive restaurants you could choose in Bellevue and Seattle area. Their service is excellent. I wish their food was of higher quality, that their recipes were more up to date, and that they offered more value for the money.
Thank you for your feedback. We always appreciate feedback from our guests, it is one of the ways we make decisions on what needs to improve at our restaurants. I'm sorry that you felt the restaurant was over priced. We try to do our best to offer a range of pricing that will fit all guests needs, one that provides value. We offer food selections in our "Tastes" section from $10-$16, "Seastar Raw Bar" section from $5-$33, and our Entrees from $24-$90. We make sure to incorporate in the menu a selection of quality items with a wide range of prices as you can see. Look forward to serving you again soon. Thanks, Mark Manca
Salmon was good.
Fries were great
Service was excellent.
James and his team were as wonderful as expected.
we were in town for weekend and were looking for a nice place to bring a family friend.
he had not been out much during covid and has an allergy to soy. Seastar hit it out of the park!
the tables were spaced far apart, we were very comfortable with the covid protocol.
and the food and drinks were excellent.
we would come back here the next time we are in town!!
Thank you so much for the great review. It is important that not only do we hear concerns, but that we listen to the praises of our hard work ( especially during these unusual times). Mark Manca GM
Omg. The deviled eggs are amazing. Best ever had. Worth a trip to the restaurant just to order them!
I love Seastar. They make me feel so special. I will return again.
Great Hot and Sour Soup...but the service in the bar is better than that in the restaurant this time. Ordered two bottles of wine and had to pour our own, which isnt a big deal, but if your going to charge 3X what the bottles worth in Safeways...have better service to justify it. Food was good, Sushi was great and nice place to have a quiet safe dinner in Covid19 enviroment.
Thank you for your feedback. We always appreciate feedback from our guests, it is one of the ways we make decisions on what needs to improve at our restaurants. I am sorry that you felt your wine service did not meet your expectations. COVID has changed the way we serve people, but it has not changed our core values of Hospitality. I will discuss your comments with my staff, and hopefully come up with a solution to this point of service. Thanks, Mark Manca GM
We have gone to Seastar for many years, but earlier this year, the quality of the food and service seemed to have taken a turn for the worse, which made us hesitant to go again. It seems that they have returned to their level of quality and service and we are hopeful that is remains that way. The food was well cooked (e.g. the Divers Scallops were just right - tender and not overcooked). The tables were well spaced-out and all the staff were friendly and professional.
One big negative that I have against Seastar (and other establishments such as Daniel's Broiler) is that they have added a 20% "service charge" which they say is kept by the restaurant. It is not made clear if that goes to the wait staff or not which means that if you typically tip 20%, the costs of an expensive dinner just increased by 40%. If it's for a "service charge", and not gratuity, isn't that what we are paying for in the price of the food? Fortunately, our wonderful waitress proactively told us that gratuity was included in that 20%. I am fine with giving a 20% gratuity, but just say so. I would still go back, but this "service charge" practice leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Thank you for your feedback, and the positive review. Unfortunately the verbiage used on the menu and the guest check, to describe the 20% service charge is required by law. If it were our choice we would word it in a different way. Thank you for recognizing the Server's explanation, and I am very happy that you received this positively. John Howie and myself have discussed this review and will share this with our team. Cheers, Mark GM
My date took me out and I thought it was a great experience. The food was great. I think I'd be able to find something comparable at a lower price elsewhere but the atmosphere made for a good date and sufficed for what you'd expect of Bellevue fine dining. The staff was so nice. We didnt realize their kitchen closed at 8pm and so were chatting up until the very limit and the waitress was really sweet when having to break the news. Sorry about that, we didn't know! Ultimately, 8pm feels too early to close a kitchen at a fine dining restaurant. 10pm would be expected anywhere imo. Reasonably 9 on weekdays. But it's not my restaurant and so not my rules. Overall, good for a one-off but I'd likely try another place before a coming back due to it being just a little pricey for what it was (don't get me wrong, great food... you just could find that same "great" elsewhere at more competitive prices), and closing a bit too early. But worth it once if you've never been and just want to try something new.
Seastar is always a 10/10. First time back since COVID and it was just as great as always.
Thank you for the Great review. I have passed this on to our staff. Look forward to serving you again soon. Mark GM
Sea star is has been our go to for special occasions for since it opened.
Thank you for the kind review. I really appreciate the confidence you put in us for your special occasions. Mark GM
James, the manager and his team made our family dinner a pleasant experience.
We realized ones more why we like to come to Seastar again and again.
Inside seating during COVID can be stressful. Seastar protocol and social distance of their dinning room allows you to totally relax and enjoy your dinning experience. The food and service was outstanding (as usual) and 2/1/2 hrs later we were leaving with to go desert in hand. A great evening celebrating our anniversary during a time its difficult to celebrate was the reason we went to Seastar. Starting with a drink and fresh raw oysters was just the beginning to the evening of great food.
I appreciate the comment about our COVID protocols. We are working very hard to create a safe and comfortable environment during these tough times for our Guests and our Staff. Thanks, Mark GM
Graciously as always
Thank you for the Great Review.
My wife and I were celebrating our 49th wedding anniversary. I wish that I could remember our waiter's name as he was outstanding a tall young man and handsome. Anyway, he suggested a glass of champagne (Nomine-Renard) which was perfect as was the wine he suggested for me (Hartford Court Pinot Noir). I had half a dozen raw oysters on the half shell and the smoked salmon linguine which was great. My wife had Heirloom tomato salad and Diver Scallops and they were great as well. We shared handmade Seastar Truffles which were very delicious. Six different flavors.
This wasn't our first time here and we would highly recommend it.
Thank you soooo much for the review. I was very proud to share this with all my staff. This is why I am in the business. Cheers, Mark Manca GM
My husband and I recently celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary at Seastar, and had the best time ever! Everything from appetizers to dessert is pure perfection. I highly recommend paying a visit to this incredible restaurant.
Great service and food. I love this place. Great for dates
VERY friendly staff and the food was all amazing!
A tradition we always spend our anniversary at Seastar
Covid makes all seem less enjoyable. Staff was great, food very good. A nice wine selection too.
The waiter was very accommodating and friendly. We stayed until 9:45-and he was very nice about us staying. There were other diners in the restaurant as well.
Well paced meal, food creative, seafood fresh and well prepared, drinks generous, did not think it was overpriced for the experience. Will return
Price fixe dinner had good selection. The salmon was moist and lightly seasoned. The kale salad was lightly seasoned with a vinaigrette and the different seed topping were a nice opener. Seastar Tower Sampler was nicely displayed and the crab cakes were a favorite of the group. Service was attentive but with construction going on outside, the view wasn’t the greatest. But I didn’t go there for the view.
Seastar has been wonderful as always. The one annoying was the new "trick" to get more money from the customers by adding a 20% "service" charge to the bill along with a disclaimer that the restaurant retains "100% of the charge" leaving you with a dilemma regarding the tip to the server. it doesn't sound right to add a 35% service charge to a meal. Especially during these times, restaurants should be grateful and thankful to customers that come in and try to make an extra dollar on their backs.
We had an early seating, service was great up until what appeared to be, people with money came in for their meal. I asked for a second beer but it was pretty much forgotten about and then I gave up.
Food great. Service was great. Love their seafood!
Seastar is one of my favorite restaurants. We dined in and tables were spaced far apart due to Covid. It’s sad how Covid has hurt the restaurant industry. Seastar gave us another great meal for our 26th anniversary and goodbye dinner for our son who went back to college. It was the first time we took our son to Seastar and he loved the meal.
We love the Seastar. Terrific food and service. Also, they do an excellent job keeping people safely distanced during these Covid challenged times.
Great food, as always
i think the five stars across the board says it all
better than before
its usually to noisy
thats all folks
This is our second John Howie dining experience, and I'm rather surprised by the lack of ambiance (and bad views) this and the other restaurant have given the quality and cost of the food. We ate at the John Howie Steak house before this where we had a window view of a freeway?? I'd rather both places be dimly lit with curtains closed than have look at the street or freeway.
I was a little disappointed to find out that the King crab legs were no longer on the menu but the steak oscar was delicious and our server was wonderful.
A bit expensive for what you get, but we had a great time celebrating my daughter’s 25th birthday. I rated the noise level moderate because we had a table of two very loud men across from our table.
So glad you are open for dinner. Service, food, wine is outstanding. Thanks!!
We have been on a bt of a Prix Fixe' binge recently, blame it on Covid-19 or on my recently acquired value sensibility that comes with retirement, and so we decided to see What SeaStar offered. The service was spectacular. Pedro, our waiter, was that perfect blend of attentive and unobtrusive. The Parmigiano Reggiano Crusted Petrale Sole with Yukon Gold Mash, and Haricot Verts was worth every penny. Getting a real parmesan crust on BOTH side of a 1/2" Petrale sole filet without overcooking the fish is a good trick. One that requires a very hot pan, excellent timing and a confident hand. Two good size pieces were served atop a small mountain of very fluffy mashed potatoes. I think orzo or rice would have been a better match, or maybe polenta, but that's a nit. The haricot vert were a bit of a letdown, being tough both to cut and to to chew, and their prep was perfunctory. The flourless chocolate cake was spectacular. I strongly urge you to get the French Press coffee to go along with, both because the coffee was superb, and because you'll need it to balance the richness of the dessert.
My wife ordered the salmon, which was a perfectly fine, a decent 6oz portion likewise perched on a Rainier-esque quantity of mashed potatoes. She got perfectly grilled and dressed grilled asparagus as her side.
Her dessert was the Salt Caramel Ice Cream. It was adequate, with a full, rich custard, but ... for me proper salt caramel is a balancing act of rich custard, a touch of char in the salt caramel mix, and by the vanilla used. I prefer Mexican, but here the vanilla used was something far more generic with a bit of a metallic off taste, and sadly, no evidence of any char in the caramel. Whoever made it wimped out and called the caramel done about a minute too soon, so the flavor was very mild. Maybe most people wouldn't notice, but I make salt caramel ice cream, so I do notice.
Overall, not perfect, but certainly excellent, and for SeaStar, an excellent value.
It was my wife’s birthday and the staff made it a great Birthday experience! Thanks
The food was pricy but it wasn’t good at all! It was very lower than our expectation. Never go to that restaurant again!
COVID kept us away for months so we were excited to get back. We couldn’t have been more impressed from the attention to cleanliness to the service to the outstanding food. Have no fear. Get back to Seastar!
We had a great end of week date night at Seastar. It is the first time back there since the pandemic. In the past, the bar was always crowded and every table full. They did a nice job spreading the tables out to feel isolated and safe in this new environment.
Food was amazing. I highly recommend the clams. They were very tender with an awesome pesto sauce. My wife had the scallops and I high the Ahi. Both were wonderful. She said the scallops reminded her of when she was in Hawaii.
