Seastar Restaurant & Raw Bar Ratings and Reviews
Got in early before crowd. Quickly seated. Decent table. Friendly service. Scallops trio was very good. Bread service with good butter. Lobster mash potatoes very good. Crab salad was good, a little thick on the dressing. Filet Mignon was very tender, asked for medium, got more med rare, still good enough not to send back. Asparagus perfectly cooked. French red wine by glass paired perfect with steak. $160
SeaStar is a great restaurant, we visited it many times and considered the best one around. It is still very good, but after remodeling it seems to lose some part of the charm, in all respects - food is not exactly as it was, interior is trivialized, service is not as exquisite - only the prices went up. Pity...
a bit disappointing. we have eaten there a few time and have been very happy. this time was a little off. soup was much less impressive than the last time we ate there. salmon was overcooked and quite dry. some of the small plates were less flavorful than previously. continue to be very noisy. would try again maybe had a off night or the chef was less attentive than usual.
My girlfriend could not get over how good her scallops were. Best she'd ever had and she kept making an almost inappropriate face in reaction to how good they were.
My salmon was pretty good. The creme brulee was excellent and the wine selection was good. Top notch service.
Food is always good (occasionally great) and service very attentive. As it's not a cheap meal, they need to keep a very high standard and last weekend's meal had great appetizers (scallops and mushroom/shrimp Shu Mai) and good King Salmon - the sides were a bit bland (mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts - more seasoning and the sprouts needed a hard sear).
We have eaten here many, many times. Unfortunately it isn’t what it once was. The food when we finally got it was excellent—Steelhead is still the best I have enjoyed anywhere..period. The service since the remodeling and restaffing has been less than adequate. We waited 30 minutes for the salad course and another 40 minutes for our entree. To charge $4.00 for a breadbasket with five rolls and three flatbreads is unacceptable. All in all an average experience in a restaurant that used to be my favorite. Too bad.
We had a wonderful evening, were treated very well for a birthday dinner, with some special treatment and a private corner at 6 pm. Our waitress was excellent and helped with the Vegan options and wine selection. We had not been there for years, so it was great to see that the restaurant was still as good as we experienced quite some time ago.
All the above responses are accurate. However, we were in a party of five and three of the five got sick that evening and into the next day. Perhaps, some of the raw fish was not fresh but something made us ill. I will contact the restaurant to let them know.
We ordered a seafood pasta and a grilled salmon. The pasta was way over cooked and tasted very dull. The pasta noodles were all stuck together like a big loaf of bread. It was the worst pasta in my life. They also looked like they forgot to add any salt to the pasta. I eat pretty healthy with less salt than most people, but their dishes basically had no taste. We just ate the seafood and could not even try to swallow pasta. Their seafood was very fresh though. The grilled salmon was alright, but could have added a bit more seasoning as well. It came with the mashed potatoes and grilled brussel sprouts. The sides were both good with moderate seasoning. The server was very attentive. Overall, I am disappointed with my first visit here and I would not want to come back.
Been here 5 times over the past 4 years and always have had an outstanding experience, except this time. When you're paying $300 for two people (including 6 drinks, tip and tax) you expect a top notch experience. This time the server was slow and inattentive. We had to flag her down when we wanted something. The food in general was good, but my wife's fillet mignon was tough and overcooked (suppose to be medium and came well done and dry as a bone).
The plate my wife's steak was on was warped and wouldn't sit flat on the table. When she tried to cut into the meat it was like there was a marble under the plate! Weird, but not a deal breaker.
They did bring us a replacement steak within 10 minutes, but it wasn't very tender so we gave it to the dogs.
The place was only about half full on a Monday night so I can't imagine they were too busy to pay attention to details.
Their Pear Kamikaze drink is phenomenal.
We won't be back for a long, long time.
Seastar never fails to impress, and be a special dining experience. Personal service, wonderful food selections and a convenient location. It's great for a special occasion (a birthday, in this instance) or just a nice dinner out. I'd call this moderately priced for great food.
The staff and atmosphere was very nice. However the food fell short of our expectations. The clams and oysters were great but when it came to our main dish, we had to send back the King Salmon. It was over cooked and the sides had no flavor. The scallops were cooked perfectly however the risotto was so rich it was difficult to eat.
The staff was very friendly when it came to selecting a different dish for my partner to eat (salmon replacement) but the overall quality of the food will not be sending us back any time soon.
Appetizers we're great. Better than the entrees actually, but the entrees we're good. We ordered oysters and they came after the entrees. The guy who brought them apologized and said they would be free but we we're charged.
I like it. Our winter was good. It is on the high end when you consider everything.
