Seastar Restaurant & Raw Bar Ratings and Reviews
Been here 5 times over the past 4 years and always have had an outstanding experience, except this time. When you're paying $300 for two people (including 6 drinks, tip and tax) you expect a top notch experience. This time the server was slow and inattentive. We had to flag her down when we wanted something. The food in general was good, but my wife's fillet mignon was tough and overcooked (suppose to be medium and came well done and dry as a bone).
The plate my wife's steak was on was warped and wouldn't sit flat on the table. When she tried to cut into the meat it was like there was a marble under the plate! Weird, but not a deal breaker.
They did bring us a replacement steak within 10 minutes, but it wasn't very tender so we gave it to the dogs.
The place was only about half full on a Monday night so I can't imagine they were too busy to pay attention to details.
Their Pear Kamikaze drink is phenomenal.
We won't be back for a long, long time.
Seastar never fails to impress, and be a special dining experience. Personal service, wonderful food selections and a convenient location. It's great for a special occasion (a birthday, in this instance) or just a nice dinner out. I'd call this moderately priced for great food.
The staff and atmosphere was very nice. However the food fell short of our expectations. The clams and oysters were great but when it came to our main dish, we had to send back the King Salmon. It was over cooked and the sides had no flavor. The scallops were cooked perfectly however the risotto was so rich it was difficult to eat.
The staff was very friendly when it came to selecting a different dish for my partner to eat (salmon replacement) but the overall quality of the food will not be sending us back any time soon.
Appetizers we're great. Better than the entrees actually, but the entrees we're good. We ordered oysters and they came after the entrees. The guy who brought them apologized and said they would be free but we we're charged.
I like it. Our winter was good. It is on the high end when you consider everything.
Dinner for my father's birthday was at 6:30 Sat 1/6
We waited at least 10 min for our server after being seated. she did a perfectly mediocre job, as did the sommelier. When being charged a premium for food and drinks I would assume the staff has had some training or knowledge of working in a fine dinning restaurant. The sommelier dripped on the table every time he poured wine. He mixed up the glasses (we were having 2 reds at the same time). The food was good fortunately- It just seemed like a very "off" night as they were really wanting to clear the steak my husband was eating prior to him being finished. I usually very much enjoy John Howie restaurants- and I am sure we will return at some point.
For a New Year’s Eve dinner we couldn’t have made a better choice. From the professional and attentive service to the truly outstanding quality of our meal, everything was very well executed. If there was one minor point it might have been dessert as the selection didn’t seem as inspiring as before. Otherwise a truly memorable experience.
The evening was just mediocre due to the slow wait staff. Our waitress showed up to introduce herself then disappeared for about 25 minutes do we could order no drinks or appetizers. Finally got a bottle of wine delivered about 35-40 minutes in. The raw tower and oysters were great. Dinner was good and potion size was fair. Paying was again an issue because our waitress was never around. If she was at one table in the area she wouldn’t scan and instead quickly retreated from the tables. Her inaction seemed purposeful and she wasn’t friendly. Other staff there was very helpful when it came to ordering more drinks, etc.
We went for New Years Eve and the food and service was wonderful. My only issue was with the sommelier. She was not helpful when we asked for a bottle of Prosecco . They don't have prosecco and instead of helping us find an alternative she kind of blew us off. Suggested a glass of something but we were looking to share a bottle. She lost that sale as we opted for ice tea.
The food was delicious, although the shrimp my friend ordered was definitely a better choice than my mahi mahi. This is not to say that the mahi mahi was not good, but that the shrimp was fantastic! Overall, the noise level was very good and quiet and the service was very quick.
Atmosphere is very professional and we'll established. It was odd though that they put the servers in jeans and button up shirts. They put my wife and I at a table for four, and it was a pretty big table. So we laughed about how far apart we were. The service was super nice though and and food was amazing -- and I don't use that word lightly.
Came for Christmas dinner, and was very impressed by food quality. I only give a 4/5 because my macaroni was too oil heavy and slightly bland. Having said that, I still believe it was great, and my friends loved their dishes. Service was good and attentive, and the place filled so quickly that I'm very glad I reserved a table in advance.
Excellent seafood restaurant with some interesting other items including notable pastas. Pricey menu, might recommend a nice bowl of delicious seafood chowder and a glass of wine as a reasonably priced delicious light meal while shopping at Bell Square or Lincoln Center. Bottle wine selection quite unique, but very pricy.
I had lunch 3 times in two months at Seastar. The first time was good; second and third times were very average at best. Fish looked dull and uninteresting and was close to being overcooked. Yukon gold potatoes had too much black pepper and were just a pile on the plate. Pencil asparagus was overcooked. We waited almost 20 minutes to see a server and had to ask if there was confusion over who our server was supposed to be. Yes! The ice cream for dessert was very good -- no fault of Seastar! Will probably go back to McCormick and Schmicks next time.
