About Searsucker Downtown San Diego

Searsucker embodies the social dining experience by encouraging guests to come early and stay late.

Excellent restaurant that was recommended to us. The FOOD IS OUTSTANDING!
When my husband saw Duck pot pie he was in Heaven ! SO good and great comfort food for him.

We will Definitely come back out of our way to eat here when we're in San Diego.

A bit disappointing.
Very noisy- the music was turned way up
Very slow-it wasn't even that crowded (about 25% full).
A bit pricey for what you get.

This place was a pleasant surprise! Friends of ours came into San Diego and we live an hour north, so we went based on photos and reviews from Open Table - this restaurant even surpasses the most glowing review! The handcrafted cocktails are OUTSTANDING, so tasty, and the food is ridiculously flavorful - we shared a lot of small plates between 4 of us, some at the recommendation of our attentive and knowledgeable server - everything was to die for. My faves were the duck wings, short ribs, duck fat fries (like beyond delicious), and if you're into chocolate and peanut butter ABSOLUTELY get the chocolate and peanut butter mousse bar for dessert. Unbelievable, we will be back!

The restaurant location and atmosphere was nice. I was there mid-week for a business lunch with 10 people, the venue was not busy but the kitchen was slow. The waiters were attentive, refilled our drinks, but having an hour from ordering, I ended up taking my lunch to go. I do not recommend for lunch if you have time restrictions.

We were disappointed with the food at Searsucker - $30 for a piece of salmon with no sides and the crispy skin was rendered soggy by a sauce laid on top. The fried chicken was inedible and coleslaw had far too much mayonnaise on it to be enjoyable. The service and atmosphere were fine, but we will be going elsewhere from now on.

We ordered a bunch of small plates and a couple of entrees to split among 4 of us. Everything was delicious - especially the short rib, pork belly, artichoke, and duck fat fries. Service was friendly and attentive even though the place was hopping!

Found this online while visiting from Atlanta. Influenced by the good reviews and we were not disappointed! The Brussel Sprouts are amazing! Even our son who "doesn't like brussels" loved them! Wish I had the recipe

Came on a suggestion of friends. Enjoyed a great meal. Our server extraordinaire, Andrew, offered terrific recommendations that did not disappoint and his service made our meal that much more enjoyable. Fried chicken, duck wings, and short ribs were fantastic. Interesting cocktail list as well.

The shrimp and grits were superb. Would have been a great evening were it not for the initial experience with our service. Due to unforeseen circumstances, our initial waiter had to leave as soon as we arrived. We were then assigned to a female who stopped by maybe once and that was to say she would take over. We waited for well over 35 minutes and still had not received our drinks. Only the initial water. After 40 minutes a waiter named Richard finally saved the evening and arrived with my small plate but not my husband. Was informed we had not received our drinks yet, and he quickly tried to bring them. I had completely finished my small plate by the time the drinks arrived and my husband still hadn’t received his small plate. Fortunately once Richard got involved it all changed and we left reasonably satisfied. Prior to Richard we were planning to simply walk out and consider this the worst ever experience.
Food was good, especially those grits!

My friend and I went for a Christmas Eve meal. The overall restaurant interior is beautifully decorated with good Christmas music. We ordered the mussels and the pork chop. The food is good for the value, but it’s nothing extraordinary. Service Wise, not good. Although it was Xmas eve, we went early around 6 pm and there were lots of empty seats at the restaurant
1) we were first seated at a table with very very sticky surface. We asked the server to clean it up
2) Mussels— we requested additional bread. After 15 mins, the bread arrived and it’s totally unediable, hard as rock. I complained to the server and he only apologized and didn’t offer to replace
3) then the server ignored us for the rest of the meal

In San Diego for a conference and enjoyed a delicious meal at Searsucker. There were several large groups and the place was hoppin'. Our table was ready, service was prompt and the food delicious. The house red wine was recommended, however, we felt it was more a table wine after ordering a bottle - suggest reviewing the ample list for a better selection. Serving staff was happy and helpful and worked in teams. The decor is very nice, hip and all hard surfaces - noisy but not overwhelming (not a good choice if looking for quiet or romance). Great location in the Gaslight Quarter.

Extremely disappointing. They say they want you to come there and chill. NOPE. We were rushed for our order. 2 drinks had to be sent back. One had tonic when we requested soda the other had a substitute vodka (which the bartender took the liberty to change without asking). One meal the blue cheese fish was not edible. They did take the above off the bill but too late in my opinion. No apology nothing. Would absolutely not recommend nor go back

This place has great ambiance and great music. The food is always pretty good. The steaks could lose some of the fat on them. Short ribs are super tasty. Definitely worth a trip.

I reserved a table for my seven colleagues, and we had an awesome team dinner! Everybody raved about the food, and we were able to share appetizers and have a really meaningful meal experience together. The menu, from drinks to food, is top notch, and the service is stellar. The ambiance feels very cool and casual, yet also elevated enough for special occasions and memorable experiences. The deep tables and seats are extremely comfortable, but the noisy acoustic space did make it difficult for intimate conversation.

Spacious restaurant - hip and modern vibe. Food was very good - small plates are ample portions. Server was a little bit annoying as he came back to our table to take our order far too frequently (every few minutes( even though we told him we hadn't even looked @ the menu. Didn't detract from the experience though - we'd definitely return. Oh! Dessert -some sort of butter or apple pound cake with ice cream. OMG

Visited San Diego for the weekend. Got a recommendation from a friend. This experience blow me away. The food was to die for. The Chef and Owner KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THERE DOING. Also, our server (Terry) was fabulous. Great energy and very knowledgeable, a true Rock Star! We watched him perfectly manage his entire section like a Boss. He had a group of 8, 2 tops, 4 tops and handled it with pure grace and style. I am definitely going to visit next time I’m in town.

Thanks!

I was there to celebrate my birthday with friends and made sure to write that down on my reservation. It was sad they didn’t even bother to read it and nobody mentioned or wished me happy birthday. I thought a restaurant of that level would pay attention to these details. I didn’t feel welcome and didn’t feel special.
