Sea Porch Restaurant at The Don CeSar
Easter lunch on vacation 😊
Had very good time with family of 5 for lunch, food is so testy.
the food was alright for what they had. I was expecting a little more from the Don. I originally questioned the price at 29.95, sounded inexpensive for a beach resort. I guess the price probably matched the food selection.
We had 7p reservations via Open Table and arrived at 6:50p. We asked for outside seating (first come, first served) and were told ~15 minutes. 30 minutes later we checked status and found we were listed as a no show, our 7p Rez was cancelled, and we were crossed off for outside seating. Once we DID get a table, the food and service were great (albeit expensive)
Hotel was beautiful and very interesting to experience but Sea Porch Restaurant was adequate at best.
Crazy expensive valet parking...rude atttendant. Food not cooked (chicken sandwich). Waiter uninterested. Made to feel like 2nd class because we were there for lunch only. We wanted to experience the great Don Cesar and were bitterly disappointed. Will never go back or give a recommendation.
We had drinks outside on the terrace and then decided to come inside to dine. The lighting level was a bit bright and harsh, which detracted from the ambience. Things started out OK, but a large party of about 12 women came in who were very loud. The waiter seemed more interested in flirting with the women, than serving us. We placed our food orders, and after about 15 minutes (after our salads were served and eaten) the waiter came back and told us that the strip steak was not available! So my husband changed his order to a fillet. The rest of our food did not appear for 45 minutes! The food was good, but the delay was really surprising when the restaurant was not that busy. The waiter did not charge us for my husband’s steak, which was nice. But I probably wouldn’t dine here again. Just drinks on the terrace.
Our party all had the brunch buffet and were happy with the offerings & the service. We thought the price was appropriate and the mimosas were a great ratio of champagne to orange juice.
It was good. A little pricey for what it was.
I selected the golden beat salad with chicken as my entree. It was to say the least underwhelming. There was no taste and the chicken was flavorless. My wife had the blackened mai mai. It was good. Interestingly enough my salad with chicken added was more expensive the her more appealing meal. Probably wouldn’t want to eat there again, especially with the total cost for the meal with two drinks and a mezzo plate appetizer was over $105.00.
Not a good value or meal.
Maybe we went on a bad night but the service was painfully slow and the food was ok but not really what we were expecting. Too much time between ordering and courses. Our waiter had to keep coming back empty handed and apologizing for the wait. This place has great reviews so I’m thinking we were there on a bad night. Next time we will try the Rowe bar for a better view of the sunset.
Over priced for the food & service quality but location is fantastic!
Cafeteria style dining with mediocre food.
Sit outside at Rowe's and watch the sunset instead.
the hotel is beautiful - the dining room was very nice, but the food really is less than mediocre. The tomato soup tasked like canned spaghetti sauce. The wedge salad had no dressing - just a tiny bit of bleu cheese, a couple of cherry tomatoes, a table spoon of bacon bits maybe.... I asked for a vinaigrette to but on the huge portion of lettuce with no dressing - their citrus vinaigrette had no taste. The BLT was dry and boring.
my last visit
We used to love to visit this establishment... however, this time around our server was terrible! The food may have been delicious, unfortunately it came out cold. We waited 40 minutes to get a soda.
It was a beautiful day so perhaps we lingered too long. While that was pleasant my whole outlook changed when I was charged nearly $30 to park my car. I only exceeded two hours by about 30 min. Too stiff a price to pay. I won’t recommend or return for some time.
Nice spot for a local to go hang out and have a bite to eat and get a nice break.
Plus: Our waiter was gracious and kept us informed.
Minus: despite having a reservation, we were kept waiting for over 20 minutes for a table. The kitchen took more than an hour for our food to come out (maybe we all should have simply had the buffet). The one person in our group who ate from the buffet later became quite ill.
Sum up: probably not going back anytime soon.
Very hard to answer based on this experience. Did not have a good experience this time.
Went for Sunday brunch in St. Pete Beach, Florida. Wonderful old classic hotel restored lovingly. It was a great experience.
Slow service. Food was not impressive.
Food was poor and overpriced
Service was slow and sloppy!
Waiter had no class for the type of historical restaurant!!!
A great disappointment to me!
Good service, excellent buffet options, seated where we wanted, very pleasant hostess.
The atmosphere was amazing. Sat outside for brunch and couldn’t have been happier. Food was outstanding!
Food was expensive and mediocre
Noise level was high and service was average at best. Many better places to eat in the area at far less cost
I’ve made a last second reservations at the Sea Porch while on a short weekend getaway in St Pete’s Beach with my husband and 4 year old daughter. We arrived and were seated promptly. Restaurant was not overly crowded, we opted to dine outdoors. It was a chilly evening so table fireplaces were on giving a nice ambiance. Our waiter showed up with the menus about 10 minutes after we were seated, took our drink and food orders and left. We waited for our drinks 40! Minutes and only after “apprehending” our waiter and reminding him about it- he gave some silly excuse about a bartender forgetting and left. Entrées arrived 1 hour after we were seated! They completely forgot about our appetizers and again, when noted to our waiter, he just acted surprised and said he doesn’t know what happened to it. Food was okay, nothing amazing. I’ve had lamb chops, my husband had a steak. After all of the waiting we definitely opted to just ask for a check and forgo the dessert.
From what I’ve noticed they only had three waiters working the floor indoor and outdoor, plus food runners delivering from the kitchen to the tables. I saw several parties leave after they waited substantial amount of time and nobody come to take their order.
Bottom line, do not go there hungry, pick up your drinks at the bar and just enjoy the view of the beach from the patio.
We had reservations and were told kitchen was backed up. Food was pretty good when it came. Overpriced for what we got. Six children were sat alone at a table across from us, they were roudy and disturbing. Considering our meal was 135.00, we did not expect the lack of ambiance and delay of food.
For the price we paid - it wasn’t worth it. The service was super slow, there was a bread shortage and the food was good but not great.
The food choices were awesome. A good variety and good prices. The wine list was small but varied to different tastes. Very informative about food allergies.
Much as I hate to write a bad review, and to the extent that management was responsive and comped our meals in the end, the experience was just so beyond the realm of expectations that I can't help but do so.
Before things went sideways with our Valentine's night dinner, we noticed the noise level was somewhat cafeteria-like and perhaps it functions within the hotel's restaurant options as a casual dining atmosphere (and that's to be expected?) We were seated directly after the couple beside us and there were two other couples seated after us. The last couple seated were brought drinks before us or the table directly adjacent, then the third party seated received their salads. We hadn't received water, bread or our salads, nor had our neighbors. 45 minutes into our 'experience' I flagged a waitress who was filling water glasses at other tables and visibly put-out, she deigned to fill ours. When our waiter was cruising past without intending to stop by our table I raised my voice to get his attention and suggested he bring us bread. When he did he took our second drink order and brought that back quickly, at which point I reminded him we hadn't received out salads yet. 1 hour and 15 minutes into the 'event' with the later two couples tucking into their main courses, our neighbors complained about their wait. 15 minutes after that the waiter returned to them and apologized for having failed to turn in their dinner orders but said they were at the front of the line and within minutes a runner brought their piping hot meals. Another 10-15 minutes later we watched our waiter reluctantly approach our table and I asked if the same thing hand happened, to which he replied very politely, "yes, m'am - it's on me, I'm so sorry" and our meals too would be forthcoming directly. Then he must have forgotten them in the window because what we received a solid two hours after being seated were our dry and inedible main courses, no salads.
I would never go back. I’ve been a few other times and experience was great. This time I went on Valentine’s Day and it was the worst time I’ve ever had in my life at any restaurant.
It took an hour and a half for our main course to arrive. That was after the waiter initially forgot our order. When it finally arrived, the food was cold. This is not what I would expect from this level of restaurant
We invited our friends to join us for our annual dinner at the Sea Porch at the Don CeSar. ( party of 6) We have been celebrating Valentines dinner at the restaurant for years. We were so surprised that the service was terrible.. 0 stars! They appeared to be understaffed and the manager on duty was not in control of the situation. The meal was not served for 1.5 hours! The wait staff was harried and consequently unfriendly. At the conclusion of the meal, we notified the manager on duty who said he was sorry... I am surprised that there was not even an offer for compensation. This is a 4 star resort... and cannot afford to have 0 star service restaurant. So disappointing!
The food was exemplary; truly 5 stars. The service, however, was poor. Sat for 45 minutes before even getting a drink order taken. Server claimed no one told him we’d been seated, but used the exact same line on the neighboring table when they had waited upon their arrival.
The crowning glory was being told only two hours parking is complimentary so, due to their slow service, had to pay $29 for the privilege of self parking a car for 3 hours.
We got the worst service we have ever had in a restaurant. That was very unfortunate because it was Valentine's Day. Curiously the server took no responsibility for the poor service. He blamed it on the kitchen or the fact that it was a busy night. We went early and it was not at all busy when we arrived. We just simply got very little attention and it took well over two hours for a salad and entrees. We wanted dessert but it was just too late and the service had not improved. The manager did apologize and discounted our meal and also paid for the parking. It was free for the first two hours but $28 after that. However, the food was excellent. Despite that we wouldn't go back. There are many good restaurants in the area with good service.
Dinner at sunset with a martini and spectacular view on the sea porch outside highly recommend
The lobster roll was sufficient in lobster but severely lacking any sauce, seasoning or accompaniment...just meat in a bun. I used my friends aioli to moisten it a bit. Our waiter was very attentive and informative. Was hoping for a better view than a poolside under construction.
Expecting a nice quiet meal with my wife and her sister. My wife was looking forward to eating at Don Cesar. Sea Porch was nice. Too cold to sit outside but looks like it would be a very nice setting. First we ordered soup which was good. My wife and I ordered Don Cesar salad which we expected to be a signature plate. Wrong assumption. Salad was served with little or no dressing. Server was very nice and brought us more dressing but the greens were watered down enough to thin out even the added dressing. My sister-in-laws pasta was good. The icing on the cake was that halfway through our meal a very large party was seated at the large table next to us. It was so loud that we could not converse and then had trouble hearing the server explain the deserts. We wanted to sit and relax and have desert and coffee but decided to leave. Went somewhere else for our coffee and desert. At the very least I would have expected someone to have advised that it may get loud in that area and offered a choice for another location in Don Cesar. We were very disappointed in the experience. We would not recommend to anyone that wanted to enjoy an actual meal.
The service was nonexistent. Our server was the only one for the entire restaurant and the bartender. She took our order and we never saw her again until shortly after our food arrived (which took quite a while for 3 sandwiches). I never got my soup. The fish tacos were horrible tasting. The turkey BLT was ok but not 16$ OK. We told our server we never got the soup and she was sorry. She said the manager was also the cook today so things were confusing. When we got the bill the soup was still on the bill. The server took it off when it was brought to her attention. I and my friends were severely disappointed in the atmosphere, food and service for the Don Cesar. We continued on to the spa and were delighted with the service and attention. The spa treatments were excellent. I won't be going back to the Don to eat again
Had a really nice experience! Was a great place to enjoy a beautiful new years day lunch with the most perfect weather in a beautiful environment! Our server Kenny was terrific, a really nice guy and very attentive on a busy day for the restaurant! Our food was delicious and drinks refreshing!
