Sea Porch Restaurant at The Don CeSar Ratings and Reviews
Restaurant was nice but will never return for just lunch. The Don Cesar charges $32.10 for valet parking even just for going to lunch. Our valet parking cost double than my lunch. There are plenty more dining places on the beach that will get my patronage and not have to pay $32.10 plus tip for valet parking.
We enjoyed a phenomenal (though expensive) Thanksgiving buffet, complete with elevated essentials, a raw bar, bottomless champagne, wonderful outdoor seating, and above-and-beyond service from Patricia. It's not our first meal here, and it won't be our last.
Booked a Sunday brunch and Sea Porch changed time of brunch without giving us notice even though we had a reservation! We even arrived 10 mins early only to find out they changed the time of the brunch to being an hour later! Such an inconvenience to everybody’s schedule. Then after we came back an hour later we found out they no longer are doing a buffet brunch which is what we originally made reservations for. It was a horrible experience. Nothing special about going to Sea Porch Grill. Save your $ because it isn’t worth the 15-30$ cost of parking your car there to eat!!!!
I have been coming to the Don CeSar for over 30 years. Last year I had an excellent lunch at Sea Porch, so thought I would repeat the experience. Bad decision!! I was seated in a booth where the seat leather was ripped, faded and tatty. NOT DON CESAR standards. I then ordered the Shrimp and Clam Chowder. Disaster!! Absolutely no shrimp or clam to be found, it was all potato and sweet corn. This was not acceptable.
Thought we'd get a good tasting meal at the Don Cesar. I knew we were in trouble as the rolls served were day old and dry. Calamari wasn't the best. I ordered chicken/risotta/asparagus for $23....it sounded good but chicken dry and no flavor to any of the meal. Was really disappointed. Didn't notice the poor reviews till after our meal - wish I had looked first. Wish the manager had looked at them too and talked to the chef so as not to have those type of reviews.
You would think a place called The Sea Porch would have a porch and a view of the sea. But that would be wrong. This restaurant is on the lower level of the resort, so if you are sitting indoors there is no view and if you are sitting outdoors, you are looking up at a sand dune. We were there for lunch with my mother-in-law. Service was indifferent, and there is no bread service. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay and my mother had a single--not the bottomless-Mimosa. My husband just had water. My MIL and I both ordered artisanal greens salads with grilled shrimp. The salad was unremarkable. There were not that many shrimp and they were pretty small. The greens were not shredded thoroughly. They were on the large side. My husband had the Caribbean eggs Benedict and said it was OK, but nothing special and not spicy. We had an order of fries to share. This meal was $115 with tip. That would not bother me if this place had a great view and ambience and great service. But this was mundane food in a mundane setting. I've had better meals at Panera.
20min for sever to get to us. .......Server was not trained on menu or menu pricing.
Coffee cold, Mimosa mostly OJ, Shrimp n Grits recipe had changed and was weak at best.....grits not cheesy w/tomato sauce(??), shrimp smaller and overcooked.
Mahi Ruben was OK.
Service continued to be lacking even after speaking to a 'MGR'(?).
$60.00 later, very disappointing. It was not busy & now I know why.
Am local so am familiar w/the 'Don Cesar' , it used to be good but will not go back or recommend to anyone until I know it has improved.
Great beach front restaurant with outside patio seating allowing for a tremendous view of the sunset! Great wine selection by the glass. The calamari appetizer was delicious, lightly battered and a generous portion! Entree of lobster macaroni was truly awesome, very creamy & lots of lobster chuncks. Definitely will be back, overall a great dinner experience!
Was so.............disappointed with the Sunday Brunch!!! Booked this occasion with Friends for a get together. Meal available for Sunday brunch WAS NOT on the open table site review!!! I have stayed at the facilities over the years.....must be under new management , and what a disappointment for such an iconic Hotel. Only breakfast "bar" was available and the quality was just not there....something offered at your local hotel to guests, if thT!!
This was probably one of the worst meals we have ever had. The calamari was over cooked and my wife's entrée was undercooked the prices were ridiculous and the cost of self parking was outrageous. The website is completely out of date in their advertising appetizers and entrées that they no longer serve. We used to be regulars at the sea porch but haven't been in quite some time and will definitely never return.
The food was good. Service was fine. View is great. The problem I have is that in the last couple of years, the price for the breakfast/brunch buffet has about doubled. You are now asked to pay $45 PER PERSON for the meal. This is uncalled for, over the top and to be honest, ridiculous.
While the food is good, the food is nowhere near $45 a head good. While the service is average, it of course is nowhere near $45 per person good.
My wife and I enjoyed visiting this establishment many times over the last several years, however, we will NOT be going back. It is unfortunate, but honestly, there are many other places in the Bay Area that offer better or just as good good for cheaper prices.
Thank you, but no thank you :)
I read some reviews that made me think twice about doing this for Father's Day. I am glad we went. Most of the food was very good. The rib eye was way undercooked and the desserts were a little childish looking. I am not a fan of root beer but if I was, I would have had a root beer float as they had a create your own station that looked pretty good. My biggest complaint is with the lack of service. I know it is a buffet but for the amount we paid we should not have had to flag down our server EVERY time we needed a drink refill.
After reading many negative reviews my daughter and I still decided to try the Sea Porch--I mean it's in the Don Cesar it had to be good, right? Wrong! Wish we would've heeded the advice of the previous reviews. We went for Sunday brunch, we felt the buffet was lacking in choices. I was excited to see an omelet station, but the whole time we were there there was no one manning the station. The french toast was so old it was rock hard on the bottom, couldn't even cut it with a knife. The scrambled eggs and waffles were decent in my opinion, my daughter did not care for them. The dessert table looked wonderful. We decided to make the best of it and indulge in the delicious looking desserts. This part is sad....They all tasted awful! And believe me, between the two of us we tried them all! The bread pudding was burnt and foul tasting, all the cakes were hard and dry. Even the coffee tasted burnt and bitter. Our waiter took note of how little we ate and tried to have mercy on us by only charging for one adult meal and one child's meal, but the bill still came up to $76 without tip! I honestly don't mind spending a good amount of money on a decent meal with good ambiance, we do it quite often, but this was so ridiculous we were just shaking our heads and laughing! What a disappointment!
Mother's Day Brunch. Sat inside...well it was actually in the bar area which is open. It was actually nicer than the real inside. It took quite some time for the waitress to come over. She didn't quite explain how the buffet worked, we had to ask. The hot foods were quite ordinary and considering they were sitting in heating trays the chicken and fish was dry and rubbery. The sliced meats were very good and worth a try. No eggs Benedict, really? The made to order omelettes were quite good and well executed. The rest of the breakfast selections were good: charcuterie board with a lot of meats but no cheeses, the scrambled eggs were moist and apple smoked bacon excellent. There should have been a better selection of breads. Anyway, considering the Cost $54pp, we expected more and better quality. Our other peeve is the parking situation. It took 15 minutes to find a spot in the lot and squeeze into it. Worse is that I had to pay for parking. After spending $210.00 for breakfast, parking should be free. If we return we'll sit at the bar and order ala carte.
I've been in Tampa for nearly 20 years and have been coming to the property off and on during that time with varying degrees of success. You want to love this place as it is in the Don Cesar and its on the beach, but it is really just crappy hotel food. Server was very friendly but all our food...apps/entrees were delivered at the same time...oysters were shucked terribly and no understanding of what kind they were or where they were from..."west coast"...$20 Wagyu burger was way over cooked and of questionable quality...'craft' cocktails were not well balanced...fish tacos with the fish over cooked, dry and not great flavor...that said, grilled octopus was very good and lobster roll was good...if we hadn't had spa services we would have been hit with a nearly $35 valet fee even though the property had no non-hotel guest parking available...was hoping new ownership would have been an improvement with food quality/service, but not the case thus far...if we had gone to a standard beach bar, expectations would have been different, but the standards should be much higher from such a local institution...much better ways to spend $175 for lunch for 3 in the area!
We were told we could not make a reservation for outdoor seating which is not unusual. We took our chances and headed over. When we arrived, we were told there was one table available. We took it and saw multiple tables available. When a couple with infant and small son asked for a table, they were told the empty tables were for reservations. When the husband pressed on the policy of no reservation for outdoor tables, the couple was told it was for a private party. Not sure how that differs from a reservation. We were also very surprised that outdoor seating is not water view. There is a raised private deck that blocks the view to the beach and water. Your dinner view is of butts in chairs/couches above you. When we inquired about sitting there for dinner we were told it was for a private party. Ambiance was not going to be the draw and we hoped for a great meal. We ordered a number of lite bites all of which were ok. This one is not worth a trip back.
Very disappointed!!! My family went there for Easter brunch and the buffet was disgusting! They did not put fresh food out the whole time we were there and what was left was scraps.not one item we had on our plates were warm. I will never go there ever again. The worst part was getting the bill after the disgusting brunch we had. $275.00 for 3of us and we all had water 😡 Don't go there
We went for what was supposed to be a sunday brunch and had a reservation. It was busy, but there seemed to be a lot of confusion at the hostess station. We were seated 20 min after our reservation only to see 7-10 empty tables in the outdoor seating area. Food was average, nothing to justify the price. The best part was the bottomless mimosas.
The restaurant was fine. Crusted snapper was fresh and well prepared. No complaints there.
After dinner, we went to the outdoor bar for some wine and to watch the sunset. The place was filthy. They were out of chardonnay and vodka. Pretty nasty scene.
A short walk to the beach and right off the swimming pool, it was a great place to eat. Light breezes cool the afternoon temperatures and the relaxed environment provide the perfect place to enjoy the excellent food at the Sea Porch. I enjoyed the Mahi-mahi Fish & Chips and my wife had the Shrimp Crab Bisque & half turkey sandwich. Everything was delicious and we finished with a nice piece of cake. Wonderful experience!
