Sea Pearl restaurant at the Merrifield Town Center is an elegant casual restaurant with great service in a contemporary setting. The menus are seasonal,sophisticated, elegant and warm environment. Lovely setting & decor. Amiable server but very poor service. Food exotic but just okay. Server did not know that I requested attention for two birthday celebration. Promised to get back to respond to my request and he did not. Great disappointment and embarrassment to me.
This place has been a a consistent performer for a number of year. Lee and her crew and that amazing Chef in the back do a great job each and every time. Our server named Ryan was completely attentive and we never needed for a thing. We both had the Filet which was perfectly done and the Rose wine was spot on. Their mussels with the perfect broth warmed you up right away. And the ambiance is as good as it gets. :)
I've been here a few times and although the food is usually pretty good, the overall restaurant ambiance and staff service generally disappoints. That was the case on Saturday night. This started with a pretty chaotic experience checking-in. We went through two hostesses and one server before someone could locate our reservation and seat us. When we finally were seated, the hostess initially tried to squeeze us between two larger tables. The guests at the tables next to us were about an arm's length away. I asked to be moved and the hostess accommodated us. From there, we had to deal with a rowdy big table of parents who were inattentive of their several age 2-4 children who were shouting, running around the tables, and otherwise doing a lot of things to disrupt what would otherwise have been a very peaceful and pleasant dinner. Unfortunately, no one from the restaurant seemed to do anything to even remotely to suggest to the guests that they should make even the slightest effort to keep the children at the table or to quiet them down. After the family left, the restaurant was calm. The food was great. And the waiter was professional and pleasant.
Overall, I like the restaurant and will return. But I would hope that management will take steps to improve the service.
The food was fantastic- from the appetizers (perfectly tender calamari and meaty clams) to the main dishes (melt-in-your-mouth sea bass, tender, nicely seasoned free-range chicken). One of the best-tasting meals we've had in a long time.
Our frustration came with the delays - we waited more than 45 minutes from the time we ordered until the food came. And the restaurant was not packed - it even had some empty tables. We had to ask about our food and were told the Asian crock-pot dish we ordered was taking a while. (But we asked whether it would take longer for that dish when we ordered and were told no. ) Seems like either a mess up in the kitchen or a server not on the ball. We still left a good tip, because we could not be sure, but we were surprised that the manager did not come out to apologize for the delay.
Brunch was beautifully done. The dining area is elegant and modern. The staff, the same. Enjoyed brunch very much.
The oysters, fantastic. Sushi, very nice touch. Fruit, a little on the not-so-fresh-side. Vietnamese style crispy fried chicken, had seconds! Roast didn't look appetizing. Eggs benedict with crab cake and chipotle hollandaise (OMG--so good).
Complaints: the mac and cheese and potatoes were fishy. Yes, fishy. Eggs were not readily available like the sausage and bacon (great bacon). They had a egg bar but, offering good old fashioned scrambled eggs would have been nice.
A gem -- really good food, in a quiet enough place that patrons can hear each other for conversation. Attractive setting and good service. They called to confirm my Open Table reservation, which was helpful. My companions, who go to a lot of fancy restaurants, were very pleased with the seafood and the Asian flavor.
Came for their happy hour (4-8 at bar/lounge) and enjoyed the variety of food specials and sushi rolls. The latter only $4 a roll. I tryed the spider roll which was excellent. Oysters were $1 a piece (chef coice) and were great! The salt and pepper tempura calamari was good; I didn't see the tempura part before ordering so my bad. I'd definitely come back again to try other bites. Great wine selection, although happy hour wines house (as to be expected). Did offee a Portuguese Vinho Verde which was dry but very good. Bartender was very personable and helpful in decisions, great service too!
I thought the food was pretty good, if a bit pricey. Some of the dishes are Asian fusion, I guess to go with the sushi options. I had some of the calamari, which was kind of a tempura base. The cobia, which wasn't Asian fusion at all, was excellent. It plays to the meatier texture of the fish and is served over mashed potatoes and dark gravy with green beans. The gravy was so delicious and the green beans were nicely crispy. Our server was really new (3 days!) but was very professional. I enjoyed the experience and would return!
Happened to notice the Brunch sign and decided to give it a try. The atmosphere is very casual in a lovely decorated restaurant. The Brunch was good with many options. The French toast, roast beef, bacon, and sushi were delicious. They also make home made ice cream right in front of you which was an interesting experience and good!

The food was very nicely presented and tasty. However, the sushi I ordered was a total disappointment. The visual arrangement of sushi is an important part of the appeal but no attempt was made to make it presentable this time. Considering that they charge premium prices for sushi roll ($17) the lack of visual presentation Diminished my enjoyment of food.
Overall, I am surprised that this brunch buffet does not bring in more guests. The food that is offered is pretty good for the price. I didn't mind that it was very quiet due to lack of other patrons, as it was easy to converse with my dining companion. We had a nice table by the window and the server was very attentive. The only thing I could say that might be improved is host awareness of reservation notes. I manage a restaurant and we occassionally get feedback about nobody acknowledging special occasions. The day that I dined was my birthday, so I added a note to the reservation of "birthday brunch" just to see if someone would come by and wish me a great day. When we entered, the host seemed very disinterested and sleepy most likely due to the lack of business and probably didn't pay attention. Oh well. It was still a nice brunch. Thanks Sea Pearl!
Birthday celebration. Almost perfect🙁. I have eaten here, like the "small plate" availability and variety. Very disappointed as I could not have the oysters which are no longer done in just cornmeal. Gluten free/blue cornmeal would have been nicer. Instead i had mussels which were ok, hot peppers-not so much.
Sea Pearl continues to be one of our favorite dining spots. Consistency and excellence are always delivered. Tuna Tartare is a good way to start your meal and easy to share.
Seasonal salads are tasty and proportional enough to share among 2 diners. Watermelon, jicama and feta, kale and beets and chopped vegetables are among delish second courses.
We love the sushi menu and the speacialty rolls, again with seasonal choices.
Ben, our server, made sure our meal was paced well, water glasses refilled and wine poured.

We were very disappointed in the service received. Our server, who was a nice girl, but she was really scattered, all over the place and just made our overall experience uncomfortable. We arrived on the early side of the dinner service - at 6 pm. We ordered within the first 15 minutes of being seated. We ordered a bottle of wine, 3 sushi rolls, a few pieces of sashimi. We sat. And sat. And we watched more diners be seated and receive dishes long before we did. Our server, who was quite frenetic, kept saying that it was because of a "huge rush of happy hour sushi orders." (By the way, when we arrived there was NO ONE at the bar and the happy hour sushi specials are only available AT the bar, not in the dining room. So, we didn't put much credence to her excuse.) Finally, after 45 minutes (!!!) of waiting, we called over for a manager, who promptly checked on our order and - voila! Less than 30 seconds later returns with our dishes. This lead us to believe our dishes were probably sitting at the service pass for a while. Our server again comes over to apologize, but in the most awkward way and with all these excuses. The interaction on service was just weird and all we wanted to do was get our meal over with and get out of there.
As for the food, the sashimi was delicious and classic unagi roll was good. We did not, however, enjoy the two specialty rolls we ordered -- they were just average.
I would not necessarily recommend this restaurant.

I was happy to see Pork Rhamen on the menu and it did not let me down. With great pork belly and wonderful stock, it was a real treat and the best I've had outside of Japan. I will return just for that but also to sample more. My fiend (who is a regular) loves the Chile Noodles.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Sea Pearl. The wine list is extensive; the beers on draft cover the gamut; the appetizers are very well done (we had the Spicy Tuna Tartar). We both had the baked cod, which was accompanied by crabmeat, garlic miso potato, spinach, panko, and yuzu butter sauce. The combination of flavors and textures was wonderful. We did not have dessert but only because the dinner portion was so generous.
I love going to Sea Pearl! This was my first time trying out the brunch and it was fantastic! Aside from the food, the service was also exceptional. We arrived at the restaurant and there was some confusion about my reservation. I had booked on Open table for 3 ppl and requested an additional high chair, the reservation was mistaken for 3 total (including the high chair) - so our table was not ready. The owner apologized and promised to get us set up as soon as possible. We did have to wait but as soon as the table was ready we were seated and a round of drinks was comp'd for us. The owner was very apologetic and really cared about the service we received. I will def be going back!
