Great service. Food is excellent and presented beautifully. Relaxing place to dine before a show at the Guthrie.
Great food and great service. We will definitely return.
We were wowed by our meals. Tagliatelle with smoked sturgeon is light and feels like a cross over to spring dining. A few tweaks and it will make a great dish for the spring menu. The cod was an interesting surprise. Cod with potatoes is pretty standard but add in cabbage and a sauce with a hint of caraway and maybe some mustard and it takes the dish to another level. It was fantastic - a great start to our evening and the weekend. Thanks!
This is a great place for pre-performance dinner enroute to the Guthrie. Service, menu, food—wonderful!
Food was mediocre at best. Tuna and octopus were the worst dishes and the beets with smoked trout was the best. Brussels sprouts disappointing and soft/soggy. I would have definitely preferred to spend the money elsewhere but it was convenient to get to the theater. Service was nice.
I have enjoyed this restaurant a number of times in the past, but the last two times have been unacceptable. Because this restaurant is in the Guthrie theater we have eaten dinner there many times prior to the performance. This time, after insisting that we come 1 hour and 45 minutes early, we sat for over an hour for our food. The manager apologized saying they were very busy that evening. That place is busy every weekend before the theater. That’s the point of having a restaurant in the Guthrie! Our meal was comped but we won’t go back until the food and management is improved.
Sea Change is always good, but this was better than usual. The lovely Olivia escorted me to my table, where I met the equally charming Jubilee, who served me a Work in Progress cocktail and six sweet, fresh oysters. So far, so good, or I should say great. How I had failed to try the biscuits, gravy, and poached eggs until now I don't know, but it was a perfect dish, with a glass of California pinot noir. A cup of cappuccino finished the meal and sent me to the theater to see "Indecent", a wonderfully moving play at the Guthrie.
Everyone should try Sea Change, oysters, biscuits and gravy, and a play at the Guthrie.
Wonderful weekend brunch before matinee at the Guthrie. Unlimited mamosi, even one to take to the show.
Food was a little salty. And nothing was memorable, just ok. And for the price it would have been to have memorable item or two. We had two apps to share and own entrees.
We were celebrating my partners birthday.
Reliably great food, attentive service, attractive atmosphere. Though we try other restaurants, Sea Change always draws us back.
delicious, artistically presented entree. Quiet environs and attentive wait staff.
This restaurant has TERRIFIC food and friendly, fun and professional service...just the right combo of informality and excellence. The environment is classy, creative and artful, of course. It attracts and interesting group of people that adds to the ambiance.
Don’t care for undercooked fish. I had the Artic Char. Dessert was great and a good value.
We made reservations to lunch during break from an event. They changed the menu to only 6 items but did not tell us ahead of time. Choices were not very interesting. Salad was heavily dressed. Soup had limited taste. Fried fish sandwich lacked seasoning and flavor. I was really looking forward to a special lunch from the interesting regular menu. Big let down.
The menu was very limited. As the event I attended was scheduled with a know number of attendees, the Sea Change was not really ready to handle the crowd. The wait staff were very nice though.
Awesome! Food, people atmosphere......delightful.
Excellent meal, service, and ambience.
Seems kinda ironic that a place apparently all about sustainability and responsibility has foie gras on the menu. Pretty big turn off for me.
Joann is AMAZING!!! Knowledgeable and personable... made the evening a complete experience!! The octopus is a MUST!!
We were expecting a lot more. Service was amateur, for example, when clearing dishes, he stopped by with his hands full with other’s dishes and asked us to stack ours on top. Bread was not warm and crust was not crispy. When a second container was brought out, is was warm and crispy. The butter was delicious. The shrimp cocktail had a very plain presentation and the shrimp were rather small. The cocktail sauce was more of a chutney and not memorable. Beet salad was ok. Smoked salmon didn’t have much of a smoked flavor, and portion was small. So nothing bad but quite disappointing.
Our evening at Sea Change was a completely terrific experience. Started with great cocktails in the bar and moved to the raw bar for dinner. We were treated like royalty and had nice interaction with the staff preparing our meal. Our questions were answered in great detail and tastes of items that we were curious about were offered. We ate a delicious and very well prepared selection of East coast oysters. The langoustines were a highpoint as well at the smoked sturgeon tagliatelle. We will definitely be dining there again, and again...
There was nothing bad about my experience. We were celebrating a birthday, which was acknowledged by the hostess, and we were seated promptly. The server was very approachable and friendly, and checked on us enough that didn't feel overbearing. Now: the food was not bad by any means. We started with the octupus which was mindblowing - texture was like butter, they were seared to perfection and the flavors lingered for the rest of the night. Honestly my favorite meal. I had the artic char for the main, which was served well in its broth but fell short of groundbreaking. My partner had the beef ribeye which looked great, but cooked a little too far past medium rare. As mentioned before, we didn't dislike anything so we said nothing. Sea Change was a good ambient experience, but didn't shine in anything we had but the octupus and my thyme bourbon cocktail.
We had a spectacular time with Lindsy! Thanks to the kitchen team for a delicious meal!
Have to start with oysters for the table.
Tuna carpaccio- always a favorite! My date was unsure about the Langoustines, but I think he’ll be back just for those!
Scallops and a rib eye for entrees. Perfectly prepared! Easily swapped bites between each other. Both so tasty.
We turned down dessert at first, but after more wine, the chocolate and peanut butter was calling our names. Yum!
The langoustines, octopus and tofu were incredible!
I had the brussel sprouts and octopus starters. They were both fabulous. The octopus was perfectly done/not chewy at all. I wish i had taken a picture of the dish.
It was beautifully plated. The other person in my party had the scallops. They were also quite good.
Because it was off season, there was no crowd or concern regarding timing. Our waiter was very attentive.
We Love it, and will be a Regular!
Thanks so much,
The food was excellent. Portions are just the right size for an appetizer (or shared appetizer) plus entree. Most appetizers are great for sharing. Friendly, competent service.
Fantastic food and service. Best bouillabaisse in the Twin Cities.
The food and service were terrific. Our server was very helpful and insightful and she did a very good job recommending food and helping with wine pairings. The lone black mark on the evening was as follows: We had stopped elsewhere in St. Paul for drinks and then discovered that we had a Guthrie Gift Certificate that we were going use that we forgot to bring with us. However we were able to locate the number for the certificate. We called the restaurant prior to driving to Minneapolis to see if we could simply present the number without the actual printed out certificate. They assured us that we could. AFTER our dinner we were informed that this, in fact, was not the case and that because it was a Guthrie Certificate, and not a Sea Change certificate, we could not use it. I spoke with the manager about this, and he did not care to remedy the situation. I work a few blocks from Sea Change and I told him I would bring the certificate by on Monday - he refused. I told him that someone on the phone had assured us we could use the certificate - he refused. Also - I had indicated on our reservation that this dinner was to celebrate my Birthday - no one acknowledged it whatsoever. So everything was delightful until the end - even without the birthday acknowledgement, and the last 15 minutes really soured us on the experience. The manager could have taken care of this, but for did not. There are soooo many good restaurants in the Twin Cities, I will be seeking them out long before a go back to Sea Change due to this. Sad.
Crab cake Benedict was tasty, but cold. Hollandaise was room temperature, spinach and English muffins were actually cold. Eggs were over cooked. It was rather disappointing.
We were at Sea Change during brunch time just before going to the Guthrie matinee. Everything about the experience was perfect. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The waitperson couldn't have been more congenial and attentive. The food arrived very quickly, was hot and so very good. I had the Smoked Salmon Tartine, such a taste delight. We didn't feel rushed, had a leisurely cup of coffee before going. We had plenty of time to make the matinee which was just upstairs. Yes, I recommend Sea Change to all, not only theater goers. There were several Viking football fans there enjoying themselves before the game.
Great good and great service. It was also nice and quiet which was great since my mother was with us.
We had a party of 6 for dinner and the service was A+ and the food was creative and tasted great.
The food was OK but the prices were extremely high
Well prepared food and nice presentation. Price was at the high end for this quality as were wine prices.
We chose Sea Change for its menu and proximity to the Guthrie, and we chose well. The room was very attractive, and while many tables were occupied, the room was not noisy, making conversation easy. My husband said the ribeye was perhaps the best he'd ever eaten, and my tagliatelle with smoked sturgeon and poppy seeds was excellent, as was my wine (albarino). Our server, Peter, was delightful, very personable and mindful of the time, given our theater plans. We live in New Mexico but look forward to another dinner at Sea Change on our next visit to Minneapolis and the Guthrie.
Such a lovely place to go post theatre at the Guthrie! It was so cold and we didn't have to walk outside to enter the restaurant, which was the first plus. The restaurant space is spectacular and matched the grandeur of the entire Guthrie space. Originally, we had planned to have dinner there before the show but instead we had to move our reservation to 10:15pm which is crazy late for us to have dinner. The food and service were wonderful, even at that hour, and we never felt rushed. It was a perfect ending to a wonderful evening.
