Service was first rate. We had brunch pre-theater and cocktails and appetizer post-theater.
The staff could no be more accommodating; held food for us at the restaurant to bring home, the manager came to the bar side and made a point to ask how we enjoyed the play.
The food was very good, I had the Crab Benedict and we had the chicken skewers as an app. All
We went to the Guthrie to see a matinee on a Saturday. We were very disappointed to only find a brunch menu - no lovely healthy fish. I wouldn’t go again on Saturday lunchtime.
Spent the rest of the evening sick whilst trying to enjoy a Guthrie show.
Great spot for late night fun... Thanks for everything.
This is s beautiful place and great location if you are going to a play at the Guthrie. The food is often "Meh". Husband had octopus which was wonderful and a very large portion (would order for a meal vs. a starter). I had a Ceasar salad with shrimp cocktail. The salad wa made with uniform pre-cut lettuce and store bought dry croutons topped with three unhappy anchovies. The shrimp cocktail was on a bed of overly- sweet tomato chunks (?). Company and waiter were lovely however.
To die for octopus starter. Very nice portions. Excellent service. We will be back!
We always eat at Sea Change before a Guthrie performance. The food is fabulous and our server, JoAnne is the best!
Great atmosphere and foodie food. They also make sure you get out in time to see the show at the Guthrie!
Loved the food & service. They’re very attentive to your needs. Good was delicious! I had the chicken. I would have it again!
The dinner menu was very limited, I did't see anything that I wanted to order. Then I saw the bar menu (which we were not told about by our service person), and ordered a hamburger which was very good. Service was slow. I probably wouldn't go back again.
My wife and I had pre theater reservations which allowed us ample time to have a drink at the bar prior to being seated for dinner. Despite two bartenders and not being overly busy, we had to split up and go to opposite ends of the bar to get one of them to notice us. The bartender by me was too busy in conversation with a friend to serve me. When he finally noticed me he asked if I had been helped even though I had no drink, money in my hand and the other bartender way at the other end of the bar. We were seated for dinner and had a GREAT server by the name of Jonathan. The oysters and shrimp were great and so was the broccoli. The main course of ribeye and Arctic char were okay. We ordered a “snowman” for dessert. The snowman was a hostess snowball lightly covered in a sauce. It was terrible-the cake was so dry that we couldn’t drink enough liquids to swallow it. Overall, it was a okay experience mainly due to our server but probably wouldn’t go back.
I love this restaurant. The food is amazing, fresh, and their options are excellent. I also appreciate their outstanding service.
Perfect in every way! Food. Jonathan our waiter. Ambiance.
The lavender cocktail, octopus starter dish and scallops entre the waitress recommended were very disappointing. When mentioned, she didn't offer to remove it from our bill. While the chicken was very good, it wasn't enough to overlook look the other disappointing items. The cost of our dinners certainly wasn't reflected in the quality of what we ordered. Also, we were there to catch a play and told the waitress from the start, however, the bill didn't arrive until 15 minutes before the curtain which left us scrambling to process the check and make it to the performance on time. I'm guessing the waitress had her hands full which probably accounted for some of our complaints. The highlight of the evening was being able to sit on the patio overlooking the river on a beautiful summer night.
Great service and food at brunch before a Guthrie show. Waiter good humored and accommodating.
We visited for Sunday brunch before a Guthrie show.
The food was good and, the place is nice.
My daughter (who is gluten and dairy free) asked for 2 poached eggs and we were told this was not possible. Mind you there was eggs Benedict on the menu but they could not accommodate us with 2 poached eggs.
Second, my mother-in-law asked to substitute a fried egg for scrambled eggs on the Sea Change breakfast. That was not possible either even though there was an option to place a fried egg on a hamburger.
The waiter did apologize and said that because it was very busy they were unable to alter the menu. Looking around the restaurant it was 25% full if that!
So, I would recommend checking the menu before you go as there are no substitutions! For this reason we will not return.
I have eaten in many restaurants and have never run into anything such as this. I can understand if we were asking them to cook us a steak which was not on the menu in any form but cannot understand this unyielding attitude.
This was our third experience and likely the worst. Service was too long and we informed staff that we had a curtain at 7:30. The meals, for everyone else were mediocre. Mine didn't arrive with the meals for everyone else. I was informed of the mishap. My meal was then brought to me 10 minutes later, cold and undercooked. I understand some like steelhead rare. This was like mildly cooked sushi and a turnoff to eat. Ultimately I got my dinner. Service by Pablo was badly timed and, even more, poorly executed. The saving grace was a well organized floor manager who seemed to materialize at Pablo's every mishap.
We had a wonderful brunch with outstanding service
We all enjoyed both our starters and entrees. The seafood was superb.
Birthday lunch - Sea Change was an excellent choice !
Great place for a pre-theatre with friends. Although the menu is limited, the food is amazing. Our wine and dessert were lovely too. Service was slightly below what I would expect, but didn’t highly impact our experience.
This was our eighth trip to Sea Change this year, all but one pre-theater lunch. Service is attentive (thanks Joanne) and the food is well prepared and tasty. However, the lunch menu has not changed in this nearly a year, and while there is a fish or pasta special daily, the salads and sandwiches have remained largely the same. It's time for a seasonal menu at lunch please!
We were disappointed not to be able to sit outside, not enough servers. Our waiter was just ok, food good but no breads and very little portions for the price. Wouldn’t come again.
We were late for our reservation due to traffic. The waitress was very prompt, very quick , and helpful, and the food was served promptly and was quite good.
As we arrived late because of ferocious Mpls traffic Wednesday night (big soccer game at the Bank), we were very pleased with the great service from our waiter. He told us we could easily finish for the Guthrie performance that night if we ordered quickly. Everything worked out fine.
The Best Dinnerl We Have Had At Sea Change - Ever
When Sea Change opened we had great expectations. Mostly, other than the room itself, the great setting and convenience for the Guthrie, those expectations were never met. The food has never been less than good, and also never better than just good. This made it, for us, purely a pre-theatre place and not competitive at their price point in town. The dinner we had the other night was in a completely different league. Spoon and Stable and The Kenwood are to us the best
fish restaurants in the Twin Cities, but this dinner was on a par with either. The new Arctic Char dish is simply spectacular - great fish, perfectly cooked, outstanding prep with a sauce of crushed sunchoke, crispy shiitakes, and fresh herbs set off with a bit of pickled onion. Marvelous. And the starter was one of the more creative and tasty vegetarian dishes we've had lately -- broccoli taken to quite a high level indeed. We hope this was not a lucky accident. This dinner was what we had expected from the beginning when Tim McKee was in charge and later with Jamie Malone. I don't know the current chef is, but he or she is certainly capable of great things. And this, by the way, was at a busy pre-theatre sitting on a Saturday! My quibbles here remain oysters that even by local standards are just incredibly over-priced, as well as some rather stingy portions on the starters. A happy surprise is the very well chosen by-the-glass wine selection, at prices that are at least halfway reasonable. All in all, we'll be going back and not just before a show!
If you love Sea Food as much as I do this place is a must. The Artic Char is my favorite.
We came for a Sat matinee at the Guthrie. I had been hoping for a lunch menu with small plate options since my 92-year-old mother has such a small appetite. The brunch options were reasonably priced though. and the $10 unlimited mimosas delighted my son. Our server, JoAnn was fantastic. Fun and informative. I am sorry to say that the crab cakes had way too much tarragon (an herb I love) spicing. Parking was horrible due to the farmers' market. It was good that we had left early because of road construction concerns. Even using Wayz didn't solve the problem. Once we were parked and settled, we had a lovely experience.
Great service and great food. A nice place to eat.
We always eat at Sea Change before attending a performance at the Guthrie. We always ask for Joanne to be our server. The food is excellent and the service is the best.
Beautiful restaurant and good for pre-theater dining. Very limited menu and some items not available. Bathroom had an out of order stall and line of 7 women waiting. Gnats were all over, landing on bread and drinks. I expected more from this restaurant.
HAve been here several times before. IT must have even an off night. We tried to order several things- all were " not available" Since there are only about four entrees - what was the problem?. THe food we did get was very good but we waited and waited and waited- waited for twenty minutes before we were told the entree ordered was not available.
Guthrie West Side Story.
Love the convenience of Seachange
Love their brunch
This is one of our favorite places but it has been 'off' lately. Today's server did not know how to take a drink order. Service was slow. Menu has been shortened...two favorite items eliminated but nothing added. Hope Sea Change can get its act together again or we will search elsewhere.
Delivery of food was quite slow. One Person had the fish sandwich and said it was very mediocre. I have heard that before from other people.
We were a bit disappointed in our experience considering friends highly recommended this place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I had requested in my reservation that I wanted a nice table for 2 by a window to have a view, we ended up getting seated in the center of the restaurant with no view at a 6 person booth even though the restaurant was mostly empty. I requested to move to a smaller table by the window (which there were several) and the hostess told us they were reserved, but then suddenly after talking to the other hostess they were able to get us one of the window tables and had us awkwardly wait by some other tables to clear our new table off. We weren’t greeted at our new table for waters or anything until 20 min after being seated. Our server was very sweet and friendly but our food arrived 1 hour later and was cold. I got the Arctic char and considering the skin is charred I figured it’d be warm but it wasn’t at all. It tasted like it had sat out for awhile and was forgotten about. I asked another server if that’s how it’s supposed to be and she hesitated and said it’s supposed to be room temp, which didn’t seem right at all. My husbands scallops were also very cold and he sent it back to get a warm one. It came back nice and hot and fresh which makes me wonder what was going on with our first dishes. Our appetizer (broccoli) came out at the same time as our entrees and was nice and hot and fresh, but why did that come out at the same time rather than earlier like most appetizers? I have to also say, my husband and I are normally very laid back diners and not very demanding and open minded to different ways of running a restaurant but this was very strange, unprofessional, and disappointing for a place we had to drop over $100 at.
Decor is a bit tired and dated. Fish is perfectly cooked but sides and accompaniments are ho hum. This is the kind of restaurant that everyone can like but nobody really loves.
Our server, Peter, was exceptional and very personable.
Nice place. Attractive. Small menu but good choices. Downtown prices. Great for pre theater diner.
Sea Change never disappoints. It is our go-to for pre-performance food and libations. Bonus with a beautiful day dining outdoors on the beautiful Mississippi. Server was wonderful. Thanks again!
