Sea Change Ratings and Reviews
I hadn't been to Sea Change for a while so I am happy to report it is as wonderful as ever. The food was creative without being too far out, well-executed, and just plain delicious! The room is still beautiful and the service was attentive and friendly. I highly recommend a visit to Sea Change.
Our waiter recommended the octopus as "the best in the city", and it didn't disappoint.
The steelhead was awesome as well, and the wine recommendations were all well paired.
Oysters, yes oysters in Minneapolis were fresh and matched the accompanying tasting notes.
All in all a very satisfying meal.
First time visit for us on a special Birthday event and we had a 10:00 reservation after the Guthrie event. Since we were early to the show we wanted to check our reservation we made online and have a pre-show drink at the bar which was quite busy on a normal Friday at 6:00.
I checked with the host about moving the reservation to 10:15 since the show last to about that
time and did not want to lose our spot. He was very helpful and gave us some hints of the menu both food and drinks. After the show we arrived and they sat us in a nice quiet corner as the place was still busy and getting busier but not too loud from others who had our same idea after the show. Our server was very good and knowledgeable about the menu. We split a app and a dinner which was fantastic. The smoked salmon app was listed as raw and was very tasty with
same results on the dinner which was steelhead with flavorful small side of quinoa and lobster bisque. Have to mention the fresh bread that had multiple types and very tasty. Our server tried to persuade the deserts but we had apple crisp at home. We told her that we'd be back.
We've eaten a Sea Change four or five times. The other times, I've had some doubts whether the food was worth the price. The cuisine is certainly very creative and the service excellent, however the absolute quality of the food still did not impress. This time was different - for instance, the arctic char I had was truly exceptional, with the given portion being reasonable and the fish succulent, being a pleasure to eat bite by bite.
We had an absolutely delightful dinner at Sea Change. The service was exceptional- attentive without being obtrusive. Our server was both fun and knowledgeable- he steered us to some great choices! The pea pods are amazing. I had the char and my husband had the steelhead. Both delicious. He said the steelhead was perhaps the best fish he'd had ever! Lovely time, lovely restaurant, great food and service. We will return and highly recommend!
Great spot for fresh seafood before a show at the Guthrie or just a night out. Fresh oysters, spicy octopus and fish. Ahi appetizer is fantastic. Steak for the friend who wont eat fish. Nice wine list by the glass or bottle. Thoughtful well informed servers. Comfortable environment mostly business casual (jeans to jackets). Busy bar at font of restaurant cocktails and beer.
We made reservations before a Saturday evening show and were pleasantly surprised that they still offered the full menu. We started with the snap peas, which were amazing! Very generous portion as well...I actually asked that half of it be boxed up for leftovers (which they are happy to keep in the cooler if you are going to the show...very convenient!). I ordered the crispy tofu an as entree as well as the white bean gardiniera as a side, and was blown away by the flavors! Easily the best tofu I've ever had, and you could taste the freshness and distinct flavors in the bean gardiniera (which was also a very sizable portion that left me with leftovers). My date ordered the steelhead and absolutely loved it! I would highly recommend stopping in before a show or if you're looking to try some great seafood with great service. 5 stars!
Sea Change was fair and nothing more. I had the sweetbreads as an app and the steelhead as my entree. My date had the romaine salad for her first course and the scallops for her main. Everything was prepared as it should be. The dish preparations and presentations left much to be desired (especially for the price). I'm assuming the prices correlated with the location (The Guthrie Theatre) because I'm sure they have high overhead to be in such a prime spot. However, I would rather pay more to be impressed than pay higher-than-average prices for average food in a good location. The service was also subpar. Everyone who works there would never make it well-respected establishments like 112 eatery, Alma, or Manny's. If you're going to a show at the Guthrie and need a place with food and drink that will simply raise your blood sugar, Sea Change is the perfect place. If you're looking for anything more, go elsewhere.
Well we have been going to sea change for our anniversary for about 6 or 7 years to fulfill our seafood cravings. So the menu had not materially change from last year. My wife got 6 oysters that were the smallest I’ve ever seen selling for $4/piece. The servings were no kidding here were at least 2/3 or less from last year but unfortunately the prices were higher. We split the pound cake for desert and I’m not joking it came with 3 little 1/2 “ pound cake cubes and a tiny scoop of sorbet. Just absurd and ridiculous. So out 30 anniversary will be known as the time we payed $165 for dinner and were STARVING when we got home. Thank god for Oreos and milk... sorry Sea Change time to change our anniversary dinners.
