If you want to throw away money on food and still be hungry, this is the place to go. Went to red lobster afterwards to fill up.
Had a dinner with ex-business associates and spouses. None of us had been to your restaurant before. Everyone loved their meals and the appetizers. We did not select a wine because they were too pricey. Our waiter and other staff were excellent and attentive. You need to have a small vestibule or waiting area with chairs so people who come to form a party to dine together can be seated together. We were seated, then our friends loitered in the entrance waiting for us. They were not told we had been seated earlier. They wandered in looking for us and found us seated at the table, waiting for them.
Scuzzi’s not only has delicious food, it has a great bar and great service. Our waiter, Russ, was very attentive and even made jalapeño stuffed olives for our martini. It was a delightful, delicious experience.
Everyone in our little group totally enjoyed our visit there. Service was outstanding, food was more than delicious and portions were very generous, prices comparable, ambiance was very pleasant.... over all A+
Lovely get together for 6 family members for grandfather 75th birthday Good food ,good sevice. We gave Jesua a 20% tip. Much to our chagrin Scuzzi's also added a 20% tip, unbeknownst to us. It doesn't say that on the menu, Jesus didn't say that either. Their answer was "All restaurants add 20% to groups of 6 or more". No, they don't ,not without telling you.
So, we'll think twice about returning.
I was expecting to find a better place that I though. It is overrated and very pricy. Food is very average as well the service.
Service was very slow. Food was just ok but not worth the price they charge.
We were a group of 5 on Valentines Day, and it was extremely busy. We had a reservation but still had about a 20-25 minute wait. The staff were all friendly and working hard to accommodate everyone. Our server was very good even though he was handling a lot of tables. I will return because the food was very good and the restaurant had a very nice atmosphere.
It was Valentines Day and we did not have to wait very long. One drink at the bar and our table was ready.
Valentine's dinner and our experience was great. Had a bottle of wine at the bar with some bread. I had the Prime Ribeye. She had the Seafood Pasta. Both were excellent.
Our reservations were at 8:45. We got there an hour early and I checked in with them about 30min before. We got seated right on time. Not sure if she thought our reservations were for a different time or not, because she apologized for the wait. It all worked out for us.
I saw the waiter only 3-4 times when we ordered then when he brought our food out then when he brought the check. The food was alright for what it is. I just think we got a bad waiter.
Horrible experience. We waited 40 minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation and arrived on time. At the table we waited another 20+ minutes for our food. The "caprese salad" was just sliced tomatoes topped with shredded mozzarella (fresh out of a bag from the grocery store) and they tried to charge $12 for it. The eggplant parmesan was bland and greasy. The wine was incredibly overpriced. The only good thing was the bread at the start of the meal, and they didn't even provide enough olive oil to go along with it. Skip this restaurant!
Great place, very hectic on holidays. Thanks to open table we were seated promptly. Food very good, excellent presentation yet portions are small for the price.
We had reservations and we still had to wait 20 for our table.
Outstanding atmosphere. We have eaten there for Valentine's Day dinner the past 3 years. Will certainly be back next year as well.
We had a great time tonight at Scuzzi's. It was a large party of women and our numbers kept changing so I greatly appreciate their patience and flexibility with our group. Everyone seemed very happy with their meals and service.
The service was excellent and allowed us separate checks for a large party (11) people. Service charge was included. The food was typically superior and authentic. Noise level in main area was loud and made conversations difficult other than with person next to you. We typically get there for happy hour before dinner, but not this time. It is recommended.
This was our first time at the new location by Dominion and I have nothing but good things to say. Mazi and his team were amazing. Food was great and service was excellent. Thanks for making our meal so enjoyable!
We are always looking for a restaurant that has both good food and service in North San Antonio, it is very hard to find. Scuzzi's is very consistent on both counts with tasty entrees and helpful staff. A nice neighborhood restaurant, but would not consider it to be fine dining.
Absolutely love love this place. The entrees and apps were very good!! Had their Bloody Mary and it was on point!! Will definitely be back!
Good food and a pleasant experience. The bruschetta was amazing, and we would come just for it. The filet could have been warmer and was not as tender as expected. The Chicken Parmesan was fine but not better than other similar restaurants. The service was a bit slow, and we were glad we were not in a hurry. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
This was our second visit with the grill. Food and service was very good. We used the restaurant week menu, which was fun and good. We ordered one each appetizer and shared. The spinach salad was good and filling. We both ordered the salmon with a bottle of the recommended wine. Salmon-excellent. Wine-not so nice! The wine cost $48 at the restaurant but cost under $10 from HEB. Wine was TOO cold! Did not warrant the markup.
Although I can appreciate any number of employees can make or break a dining event, normally the waiter/server is the primary "face" that diners see, therefore has the most influence on the diner's experience. In our case, our server's performance guaranteed we will never return to Scuzzi's.
He welcomed us, and prided the fact he had been working there for many years. He told us about the specials, took our drink orders, then things went downhill from there. We had to ask multiple times for bread, waited way too long for appetizers/second course salads to arrive... all while watching tables that arrived after us receive their courses before us. I counted 8 times he passed through the dining room simply transiting without doing anything server-related. Not sure where he was going to/from, but he never stopped to ask if there was anything he could do, or if we needed anything.
When we received or main courses, they were disappointing and bland (chef's fault here). My wife's salmon was tasteless, so she asked the server for some salt (there was none at the table). His response to her was "I'll have to ask the chef if he feels it needs salt"... and left. We were unsure if that was an ill-delivered joke, but watched him walk and serve other tables for the next 10 minutes while my wife slowly ate her remaining salmon 'as is' before it turned cold. I finally caught him and said "so looks like we weren't getting the salt"?, which he replied he'd get some (even though my wife had now finished her meal).
I asked for the check, and we waited another long while until I had to ask again. At this time, 5 tables that had been seated after us had now eaten, paid, and physically left the restaurant. I don't know if any of them were preferred customers, family/friends, or had greased his palm for personalized attention, but our experience with Scuzzi's was a miserable failure.
Horrible service! Went for restaurant week, was not provided the lunch option, and after ordering was informed they did not have salad that was presented on menu, was given house salad instead. Asked for no onions on order, came with onions, had to search waiter down for refill on drinks. Expensive meal for horrible food and service.
A delightful evening with good friends! Great food and service too!
Our table was ready, service a little slow but our bartender Daniel was awesome. His maritinis were outstanding.
Our food was pretty good, but the service was substandard. I had to constantly remind the waiter of our orders. After dinner we both ordered a creme brulee, and I ordered a coffee. They brought us one creme brulee with two spoons, and no coffee. When I asked again for my coffee, my waiter brought it but seemed inconvenienced. Then we requested a to-go box for my salad and an order of bruschetta. The waiter took the bruschetta which was assembled very pretty, and just poured the whole plate into a pile in the to go box. I didn't complain, but I did reduce the tip from my normal 20% to only 15%.
Our waiter was friendly and helpful. We had a group of 7 women celebrating a 70th birthday and we stayed for hours. Our waiter was not pushy and accommodated our every need and then just left us alone to talk. Perfect. Everyone said their food tasted great.
Treated my younger sister to a birthday dinner. Service was on par. Tried a new sparkling wine that was divine. The food did not meet expectations at all. Did do a decent job at the chicken parm. Olive oil served with the bread was bland and tasted stale. I ordered the cannoli and it lacked flavor or substance entirely. Our tables food was lukewarm at best. Still on the search for decent Italian food in San Antonio...
Great experience, good wind, delicious food.
We took our family to Scuzzi’s for New Years Eve. The service was slow! From waiting for bar drinks to refills of water to simply too long for dinner. The food was subpar - similar to Olive Garden. It wasn’t even completely packed for New Years. We had a new waitress with no one offering to help her. We felt so bad for her. I honestly would have no reason to go back and I am shocked by all the good reviews on here! I always trust opentable reviews. It sure didn’t work out for us for New Years.
Great food and great service. Excellent ambiance for a special meal.
Met with family Christmas Eve! Everyone loved it! Even had appetizer specials!
My wife, Gloria and I were celebrating our Wedding Anniversary, and decided to dine here to honor that occasion.
While the Food was quite tasty, and enjoyable, the Service was excellent, and made us both feel quite special as we celebrated Our Day.
We thoroughly enjoyed our conversation with our Server, Russ, who Added to our positive evening.
We plan to make a return visit.
Food was half way decent. Service was quite lack luster. Asking for sweet n low 4 times was annoying and took getting up and going to server area and waiting for it.
Our server messed up 3 of 6 orders and argued w my husband when he questioned the toasted ravioli was not the Ravioli dinner. We ask for lemon and got it half way thru the meal. They brought out supplies to box up our leftovers while we were still eating when we had not requested them and planned to finish our meal. Overall it was not the best experience.
Very nice meal. Normally not loud, but we were seated next to a large party of about 20. Wine and food were great.
We have been to Scuzzi's before and always enjoyed the atmosphere and food. THis was no exception. The veal and sea bass were both extraordinary. Service was good. The bar is a fun place to meet before dinner. A cozy gem on northside of San Antonio.
It was very noisy due to a company holiday party going on. If that wasn’t going on, I suspect it would be quiet.
The service was good as was the food.
