Scuzzi's Italian Restaurant

I enjoyed a midweek business lunch at Scuzzi's with a guest who was a well-traveled professional of Italian descent and a lover of Italian food. This was his first visit to Scuzzi's and I'm sure it won't be his last: He raved about his chicken piccata, which was served in a classic way with precisely the right sauce that many other restaurants get wrong. My own order was outstanding, but I defer to my friend's experienced palate on these things. The value was very good and the ambience was marvelous (which you mightn't expect as you look at the building from the parking lot). If you seek a quiet place to chat over lunch, Scuzzi's is a top-notch choice.
Dinner was excellent; our server was okay but somewhat in need of some training in order to meet previously set standards. We’ve dined here many times and the wait staff has been excellent. This time wasn’t bad, just awkward; eg, she brought the appetizer and then disappeared for a few minutes before reappearing with plates for the shared appetizer. Not a big deal (we had the bread plates 😊) but a more experienced, or better trained person (I think) would have brought appetizer and plates at the same time. Perhaps she’ll get better with practice.
All was good. I personally did not like the bread .
Good food and always a great service.
We love eating here. Always start with the scallops. Absolutely delicious. Then we have veal piccata & I order my amazing spinach with salmon salad. Love it all!!
Great food quality and service. Individual dishes, mainly pasta dishes, are way over priced.
The food was marvelous. Expertly prepared and delicious. The service was prompt, caring and perfect.
Great food and service highly recommend
I went here for my birthday. Out of all the places in San Antonio i could celebrate (we drove 5 hours to be here), I decided to give Scuzzi’s a try. We had reservations for 7:00. The hostess said it would just be a few minutes until we were seated, which was no problem. until 7:10 hit, then 7:20, then 7:30. 40 minutes later we were finally seated. I was very upset already. We had 3 servers at once which made the service better but was confusing and overwhelming. We made the restaurant aware that we were celebrating a birthday and it wasn’t brought up once until my fiancé said something towards the very end of our dinner. after all of that, we still walked out spending over $100 for a place that all around was just average.
We had to check-in 3 times after making a reservation. We didn’t get seated for an hour. I don’t feel they use the reservation system well.
Overall, Scuzzi’s is a good restaurant. Our waiter was great but it took forever to get our food.
As you walk in you see all the restaurant of the of the week trophies and awards this restaurant has received so it gave me an idea of this place is going to be amazing. Well we (table for 2) were sat rather quickly. The decorations were very nice and everything was really clean. The service was really nice and all the different waiters would pitch in to help filling up drinks or bringing more bread. I think we were helped by other waiters more than the one that was suppose to be tending to us. We ordered shrimp for an appetizer (4 shrimp) it took almost 15 minutes to be delivered to our table and it was the most bland over cooked shrimp I have tried. The food came out about 10 minutes after that I received the baked ziti and the other a plate of cheese ravioli. There was no flavor in any of the food from either of our plates. It all tasted like plain and bland cheese just as if you bit into a warm 50 cent cheese stick. The environment was great and the service was pretty good just the food alone did not meet my expectation. Would much prefer olive garden 100 times over again than going back here.
The restaurant staff and the quality of the food is of outstanding stature. It one of two of the best Italian restaurants in San Antonio.
Neighborhood restaurant with good service and food.
The atmosphere was ok. The service was excellent. The food was delicious, but I wouldn't be pressed to go back and spend that kind of money again.
Enjoyed this restaurant so much! Service, food, atmosphere, speed of service, attentiveness, everything. Willow going back for more
I usually don’t go at busy times so I have always had good service. But since we wanted to go at 7pm, I got a reservation.
We waited over 20 min for a waiter to come to our table, which only happened because I got up and asked politely to have someone bring us water. Then we waited another 30 min for our drinks that we got only after we got up again to request. Food took at least 45 min.
It was clearly an off night, but we had reservations so I expected them to be prepared. It seems they were missing staff or something.
We were a table of 6 and they put the 20% gratuity on our bill automatically. I don’t know if this is policy, but that was a nice way to stick it to us again.
No one came to our table to apologize or check on us as usually happens in other restaurants, just as a general practice.
No more group dining here.
Scuzzi’s is one of my favorite places in San Antonio, the food is always superb and the waitstaff is warm and friendly. Even the bartender is amazing and remembers your favorite drink💕💕💕. I dont go here for a treat!!! I like to think of going for a wonderful dinner in an Italian home.
Excellent varied menu. Service was impressive. Food presentations were inviting, and taste was wonderful.
Great room, service, and food! My wife and I always celebrate special occasions there.
Scuzzi's always has great food and great wine selection. One of my favorite places in San Antonio.
A family favorite! Food and service are always fantastic.
The food is ok not worth the price. I ordered baked ziti with vodka sauce instead of meat sauce. The food tasted ok but It didn’t have any ricotta and it was too saucy for bakes ziti. My husband ordered veal picatta and his dish was more like small veal medallions. The beat dish we had was the Appetizer Charcuterie and Cheese board. That was really nice.
My veal parmigiana was mostly sauce and cheese, very thin, small amount of veal. My grandson had pasta with clams.... Very saturated in butter. He couldn't eat it. Other meals were unremarkable.
My daughter and son in law ordered expresso after dinner. ..very bad!!!
Very pleased with the visit!
Great experience...food was excellent as always.
Food and service always the best. I enjoy our evenings dining at this wonderful restaurant.
Lingered at a fun dinner with friends. Enjoyed great conversation over good food and wine.
Our waiter Rafael was very attentive and timely with checking on us and bringing us our drinks and food. I want to thank the restaurant for treating my girlfriend special on her 40th birthday. The waiter from another table stepped over and sang Happy birthday in Italian, which she absolutely loved
Outstanding service and food. The veal piccata is the best in town.
The food was very good, however, what stood out was the outstanding service from everyone from the moment we walked in the door until the time we left.
Everyone is so kind and accommodating!
Delicious food too.
Amazing service and food! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fine dining Italian experience.
I really enjoyed dinner it was my first time and everything was perfect.. Looking forward to going back again soon
Absolutely lovely! Scuzzi's proved to be the perfect place for dinner with a business colleague. The staff was attentive yet respectful for our need for conversation. The food was amazing; and our meeting a success.
Service was a little slow, took some time to get salads, then entrees. They totally forgot our appetizer, good thing didn’t charge us for it.
When it all finally arrived, the food was good.
Dined here on Mother’s Day. Kitchen was backed up. Could here lots of complaining from other guests. Wasn’t to comfortable hearing all this. Food was a bit longer than usual. But delicious. Small portion for the price. Too far to give it another try. I’m sure it was the Mother’s Day business that was unexpected.
Our waiter started out ok but quickly spiraled to making us angry by stating he doesn't make the food when our 6 meals hadn't come after an hour but the party of 12 behind us received half of their meals. We were offered no drink refills the whole time. I had a sangria that was mostly ice and only had a cherry in it versus the fruit the menu stated. Also the menu is a lot smaller than the menu on the restaurant's website. While the manager was very nice and accommodating. I can't say I'd go back. It was not a good Mother's Day dinner experience.
Very nice and comfortable in all levels. I will recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The food was great, as always. Our service was unsatisfactory. Our server forgot to enter our order for salads, so when we received our food I advised him that we no longer wanted the salads. When the bill came, we were still charged even after he told us he would remove the salads from the bill. This in addition to slow, sloppy service was very disappointing.
