   Second time dining here - party of 3. It was a busy as we experienced last year. Our wait staff was nice but food took 45 min to come out. Thought they should have comped our drinks or starter at least. Jambalaya was good and spicy but much of the dish was cooled off when it was served, which was disappointing. Other dishes we had were delicious - Catfish and chicken and waffles. The selection of sides is great and we had a hard time choosing - mac and cheese was a hit with my kid. Hush puppies are a must-order.

   We were seated right on time for our reservation which was nice, but service was slow after that. Friendly though. Food was not as good as I remember the first time. We visited their other location the first ti and I remember being blown away. I wouldn’t return based on this one experience.

   My biggest issue with this plate is the quality of the food. I ordered the deviled eggs which tasted completely like mustard. There was no other flavor present. They were almost in edible. Being African-American woman I know how to make some deviled eggs. The exact depth— just because you put bacon on something doesn’t make it taste good. Now onto the shrimp appetizer that I ordered, I’m sorry to say that the best thing about that appetizer was the toasted garlic bread that was served with it. The shrimp was black and OK I get that, but it was also overly spiced and again almost inevitable if it wasn’t for the sauce that was served with it. The mac & cheese passable. The collard greens need to be seasoned with bacon fat not just bacon and ham hocks. These are a little southern tips that African-American cooks know about. All in all for people that are not African-American, southerners this place displays in terms of the quality of food is great. For those of us who are African-American and know what real southern food tastes like the Screen Door is just passable.

   I like this place! Comfort food at it's best in an attractive, comfortable space a block from Powells in the heart of the Pearl. I have long been a fan of the east-side Screen Door for its excellent southern cuisine. The newer digs in the Pearl are a bit more upscale than the eastside location and the menu is just as good. The outdoor seating is also very pleasant in good weather--either on the sidewalk or in the courtyard, with abundant people-watching opportunities. From the brunch menu, Screen Door's chicken and waffles are legendary, but I love the Bananas Foster French Toast. At a recent visit I tried the also excellent French Onion and Bacon Tart--a delicious quiche with a lovely side of dressed greens. Reservations are a good idea. It's a great place to meet friends!

    Great burgers. Food is reliable. We enjoy the restaurant so much we overlook the amount of fried, salty and fatty food choices. Tonight i ordered 3 veggies and still had plenty of butter and cream. They are tasty, don’t get me wrong. Just hard to eat healthy here. Drinks are delicious. Staff is very professional and helpful. We will go back again and again. Just wish the menu would expand to include a few simple options.

    Great experience all around. We had a belated Mother's day brunch - always good to wait a couple of days for the staff to recover! Fried oysters are one of my mother's favorite dishes- these were perfect- fresh, hot, gently fried with a thin coating. We really enjoyed the food and our sweet waitress. We'll be back :)

    I'm torn because the food was delicious but the service was terrible. My wife's food came to the table in a normal amount of time but she actually finished and had her plate cleared before anyone else at the table was served. It was over an hour before we finally got the server's attention and asked about the rest of our meals. No one had checked in or been concerned before that. The server immediately returns with the rest of the meals but there was no apology or explanation about what had happened. The food was very good but I just cannot recommend the restaurant because of the poor service.

    After hearing such great things about Screen Door I was excited to come for the first time. While the food was very nice, unfortunately the service was not. It took way too long to be helped and have our order taken, took a very long time to get our food. Also the waitress accidentally dropped the serving tray as they were cleaning up our table and spilled ranch dressing onto one of the people attending the dinner. While They did comp the meal for that person, it was only after they offered a free dessert that we declined due to wanting to leave after said incident. But then returning all the credit cards and receipts just in a stack for us to have to re hand to our own table is very unprofessional and non personable. But that is probably due to gratuity already added onto our bill, so they could care less at that point. Also there was so much noise coming from behind the bar and kitchen of people accidentally dropping plates, cups, etc. it was a very unfortunate experience. Maybe the other location in portland is the one to go to.

    Delicious! The biscuits were fluffy inside and a nice crisp exterior. Sausage gravy was superb. Bacon perfectly cooked as were the eggs! Our server was attentive and provided lovely service.

    I recently moved to Oregon and was brought to this location from a friend. I had the Cajun scramble w/ a morning mule and it was amazing! The drinks are perfect blend of juice and liquor. The food comes out pretty quickly, and it’s delicious. For breakfast I recommend the Cajun scramble (the sausage is amazing) or if you like sweet try the banana French toast plate. The Syrup is rich and creamy! Overall an amazing experience and will be back with friends and family.

    The food was great but the service was just average. The server was out of gas, he said he worked too many hours and it showed. Also the noise level was way too high...that is hard to control but it was not good. Still loved the experience.

    I was happy to have gluten free alternatives. Disappointed that the menu listed items as not gf purely because of a piece of bread or some topping that could be taken out. I got the sides sample plate with beet salad, broccoli raab, and the sunchokes. I requested dairy free. I think if the beets were cooked with some vinegar they would have had more flavor but normally there's blue cheese to help. The Raab was delicious and I would order it again. I think I would also order the sunchokes again.
