Scratch felt like home, only better! The staff was genuinely glad to see us and wanted us to have a great experience. The food was locally sourced and unbelievably good! The atmosphere was unique and inviting. The restaurant was full but the noise was very well controlled.
One of the best - least talked about- restaurants in Pittsburgh! Go now!
This was our first time at scratch and we can’t wait to go back! The food was interesting and delicious and the staff were incredibly welcoming and gave us a wonderful experience.
The waiter made recommendations that were, for the most part, on point with the exception of the creamed Brussels sprouts that were undercooked. Our waiter seemed harried and that may be related to the fact that he had multiple tables. He seemed to keep his cool.
The food and service was good but I felt the portions were small for the amount charged - even for the large plates. I would try another restaurant before going back to Scratch.
The food was great. Menu had enough variety to please everyone in our group. We were a little taken back by the neighborhood, but inside this place you feel very comfortable and relaxed.
We loved our dinner at Scratch. We went with 6 people. My wife, two daughters, and their significant others. The food was fantastic, and the drinks were just as good. Mackenzie was our server, and Josh was our bartender and both were excellent. My only semi-negative comment? I think the prices were a little high based on other, similar restaurants in Pittsburgh.
Scratch was fantastic! All four of us LOVED our meals. Also the drink selection was great. Everything was presented so beautifully it was hard to believe it would taste as good as it looked and it tasted even better than it looked!!!! Can't wait to go back!
Disappointed meal with friends on Saturday -everything was just a bit off. Cold and drafty table despite having booked weeks ago, food a bit so-so, long wait for our entrees and loud crowd making conversation difficult. Has been great in the past, but not sure we will be rushing back anytime soon
Love this place. From the way they greet you to to excellent cocktails and creative menu, it never fails to disappoint. It’s extremely cozy and easy to enjoy your companions or meet the table next to you. Great neighborhood joint that has become my go-to restaurant.
We were EXTREMELY impressed! The food, wine and cocktails were excellent - as was all of the service - from the host/owner to the entire wait staff. We will definitely be visiting this restaurant very soon again!
Excellent service and food. The servers are very enthusiastic about the menu and drinks. They are able to make great recommendations. I had the beef bourguignon and it was fantastic! My husband had the special, strip steak, and loved it. The Manhattans are very tasty. I would highly recommend if you are looking for a casual restaurant with a great vibe and awesome food.
Very good food & drinks. Great service. The owner seated us and took time to explain his love of vermouth and the entire drink menu to us, which was a nice touch. Great atmosphere- a mix of casual to business casual. Also, great neighborhood restaurant feel. Definitely would go back.
This was our 2nd time at Scratch. What I love about the restaurant is that there are many service staff interacting with you at your table. This creates a very friendly atmosphere and everyone is very quick to address any question. Different staff bring each entree as it is ready, refresh your drink, clear dishes or add on to your order ... there is no need to wait for a particular wait staff. And the food ... absolutely delicious! Many unusual choices and I love the pairing of tastes and textures. Wonderful restaurant and we will definitely return!
Scratch has a wonderful neighborhood vibe. Everybody was super friendly and chill. We are vegetarian, and there were lots of great options to choose from, even for the vegan amongst us. The food was fresh and flavorful. We especially enjoyed the pickled vegetables, mushroom risotto, and mushrooms with vegan Hollandaise sauce. The moussaka was too salty. Our only real complaint was the very slow service. It seemed that there was only one server for the room, and it took forever for our food to arrive. But we will be back.
Absolutely would recommend this lovely spot. Actually, already have! Located in a quiet neighborhood behind a pretty nondescript exterior. Walk in to be greeted by super friendly host who had called us earlier in the day. Roomy table for 2 with a bench. Great cocktail menu (lots of vermouth). Food menu was fun to read and very appealing. Plenty of choices but not overwhelming. Efficient, friendly, service just when you needed it. Most importantly, the food was delicious. Every bite. My daughter and I shared 3 small plates, an entrée and dessert. Wonderful tastes to talk about, pretty presentation. Really the only thing that was the tiniest bit off from my perspective? Mismatched dinnerware and silver, seemed to be a wee bit offhand for the excellence of the food.
Everything was exceptional. We had a large group in for brunch and they were so welcoming & accommodating. We were walked through the history of the restaurant, the concept, the menu and given ample time to think about what we wanted to order. The pacing was perfect and we weren’t rushed out the door when we were finished. The COFFEE was amazing and we loved the kitschy mugs/dishes. Our server was friendly and patient while we were ordering and beyond accommodating when splitting up our bill. We left feeling full, happy, and very much looking forward to coming back for another brunch... and dinner... Thanks for a top notch experience!!!
as always, a great dining experience. Food , service and management fantastic.
Very welcoming staff, menu gets better every time I visit!
Great service and excellent food. Love that they change the menu based on the season.
Great place for brunch!
We had the best experience! The vibe here is casual, hip & unassuming. The food is out of this world! Our waitress was so friendly & gave great recommendations. She even brought some toys over for my 2 year old to play with too :) Loved the tartare & deviled eggs! The duck confit was one of the best I’ve EVER had! Couldn’t recommend this place more. Everything was fabulous!
Fabulous menu and fresh food. Best Moussaka....ever! Oh, and the flourless chocolate cake, absolutely incredible!
Awesome food and very friendly & competent service.
Excellent food and service in a unique location.
Excellent jazz and wonderful food. Very nice brunch!
For this being tucked into a relatively poor neighborhood, I found this place short on value. I was there on recently, and had dinner with my wife. We ordered two appetizers, two dinners, one soda and one glass of wine. Counting tip it was about $90. I went home and ate again, as I left hungry. Really hungry.
I thought the decor was funky and looked repurposed, the service was attentive and courteous, and for the most part, the food was delicious. But, for almost $100, I don't need to go home and eat again. If you want to try something off the beaten path, and value is not a determining factor, this is a good landing spot. Best way to describe it.......French restaurant portions.
Always a amazing dinner. With awesome service and cocktails!
Great service, cocktails, and food. An out of the way place we’ll definitely be back to.
Fantastic food, waitstaff, and atmosphere. Also very reasonably priced for brunch.
Fun, relaxed vibe. Excellent food and service. Parking easy. Going back soon.
Really nice dinner in Troy Hill. Scratch is an inviting place with the bar and some seating on the left and dining room and open kitchen on the right. Knowledgeable and efficient service. Varied menu of small and larger plates. We started with the Ful Madames which is a nice change up from hummus. The kitchen sent out the Lardo which was appreciated and enjoyable. Delicious but don't tell your cardiologist. We then tried the two soups. The gazpacho was good, although we prefer a diced chunky style rather than pureed. In fairness there were some diced cucumbers and radishes added to the top of the puree. But the corn soup was outstanding. Really delicious and satisfying. We then went with the gnudi, also very good, and the lamb ragu which was deep and flavorful although, the angel hair seemed more like ramen. Just an observation not a complaint. We finished with the mascarpone panna cotta which was also really good.
Had an excellent meal. Service was great.
We tried several things from the menu and enjoyed them all... definitely a place worth trying!
Great little gem on the Hill
Food was delicious and the atmosphere very inviting. Only reason they didn't get a 5 on the food is that it was excellent, but not wow. I would definitely go again. A lot of families in the restaurant, which is so enjoyable and lively!
Third time here and many more to come. One of my favorite spots in town and becoming a tradition with Loose Cattle band members
First time at brunch after several excellent dinners, and this new experience did not disappoint in the slightest. Excellent quality and variety (a huge plus as a vegetarian). The ambience transforms from intimate at night to open during the day. Still one of our top five spots in Pittsburgh.
Great place . Waiter seemed annoyed w us. Food delicious good choices . Sound level tough
This was my second time at Scratch and it did not disappoint. The hostess and waiter were very knowledgeable about all of the food options available on the menu. We ended up getting two of their choices and they were great!
Everyone that worked there were very friendly to us, making sure we were taken care of.
We ordered the following:
Spanish Marinated Mushrooms - 3 different kinds of mushrooms. So much flavor!
Heirloom Tomato Salad - super refreshing and the stracciatella cheese was PHENOMENAL. So smooth and velvety.
Locust Point Farm chicken - good size portion of chicken
Halibut - the halibut was hard to keep on my fork, it was that flaky and cooked perfectly. The seasoning on it packed with a ton of flavor.
