Excellent jazz and wonderful food. Very nice brunch!
Always a amazing dinner. With awesome service and cocktails!
Great service, cocktails, and food. An out of the way place we’ll definitely be back to.
Fantastic food, waitstaff, and atmosphere. Also very reasonably priced for brunch.
Fun, relaxed vibe. Excellent food and service. Parking easy. Going back soon.
Really nice dinner in Troy Hill. Scratch is an inviting place with the bar and some seating on the left and dining room and open kitchen on the right. Knowledgeable and efficient service. Varied menu of small and larger plates. We started with the Ful Madames which is a nice change up from hummus. The kitchen sent out the Lardo which was appreciated and enjoyable. Delicious but don't tell your cardiologist. We then tried the two soups. The gazpacho was good, although we prefer a diced chunky style rather than pureed. In fairness there were some diced cucumbers and radishes added to the top of the puree. But the corn soup was outstanding. Really delicious and satisfying. We then went with the gnudi, also very good, and the lamb ragu which was deep and flavorful although, the angel hair seemed more like ramen. Just an observation not a complaint. We finished with the mascarpone panna cotta which was also really good.
Had an excellent meal. Service was great.
We tried several things from the menu and enjoyed them all... definitely a place worth trying!
Food was delicious and the atmosphere very inviting. Only reason they didn't get a 5 on the food is that it was excellent, but not wow. I would definitely go again. A lot of families in the restaurant, which is so enjoyable and lively!
Third time here and many more to come. One of my favorite spots in town and becoming a tradition with Loose Cattle band members
First time at brunch after several excellent dinners, and this new experience did not disappoint in the slightest. Excellent quality and variety (a huge plus as a vegetarian). The ambience transforms from intimate at night to open during the day. Still one of our top five spots in Pittsburgh.
Great place . Waiter seemed annoyed w us. Food delicious good choices . Sound level tough
This was my second time at Scratch and it did not disappoint. The hostess and waiter were very knowledgeable about all of the food options available on the menu. We ended up getting two of their choices and they were great!
Everyone that worked there were very friendly to us, making sure we were taken care of.
We ordered the following:
Spanish Marinated Mushrooms - 3 different kinds of mushrooms. So much flavor!
Heirloom Tomato Salad - super refreshing and the stracciatella cheese was PHENOMENAL. So smooth and velvety.
Locust Point Farm chicken - good size portion of chicken
Halibut - the halibut was hard to keep on my fork, it was that flaky and cooked perfectly. The seasoning on it packed with a ton of flavor.
Food was delicious and reasonable portions. Drinks were good also as vermouth is there go to liquor. We were there on a Thursday and the live music was fun. We still were able to chat in the dining room. Would definitely go back.
Brilliant - fantastic bartender (Josh?), great menu and really brilliant duck confit dish (potato salad served with it is really magical), all in a lovely space. Totally cool staff, no matter what happens.
The food was good, but a bit exotic and rather pricey. Parking may be an issue at times as there is no lot. I don't know if this place can make it in that neighborhood.
The food was richly flavored, and beautifully prepared and presented. Cocktails were unique and delicious. Surprising gem in a out-of-the-way location!
I love this place, food, ambiance, service, all is outstanding...just fantastic, Don and his crew deserve all the accolades possible...
Looking for a great culinary experience off the beaten path? Get to Scratch F&B. Such a warm comfortable setting and the menu, craft cocktails, and wine selections are among the best in Pittsburgh.
The Spanish mushrooms are amazing! Everyone loved their entrees!
Excellent food and great service
We celebrated my soon to be 50th and my mum’s just passed 70th birthdays this weekend. We had a full array of people with different tastes in wines and food and I think Scratch did an amazing job of accommodating everyone. I can’t wait to come back and try the halibut especially! Well done - we had a great time.
Fantastic place! This is our fourth visit. Amazing old-fadhioneds, delicious duck confit and we tried pate for the first time; buttery! Great service and well-informed wait staff. We’ll come again!
Everything was so fresh and portions were just right. Shared appetizers, small plates and large plates. Cocktails were generous and unique. A lot of variety and unexpected preparations. Will be back.
Scratch came highly recommended and it didn’t disappoint. The vibe, service and especially the food were outstanding. We will be back!
Really wonderful food and drink! Kudos to the team at Scratch!
We are regulars and love Scratch!
First time at Scratch for Brunch and definitely not the last! Food was delish and fresh. Service from Kyle was wonderful! Had to head downtown before the live Jazz, but will come back to listen to some tunes :)
Friendly and accommodating staff, good quality food and drinks that are outside the box and well put together
This is a fantastic restaurant. The menu changes often and the food is carefully prepared, beautifully presented, with fresh and surprising flavors. This was our 6th time here. Included in our party of 8 was one of our daughters who was visiting from NYC and a friend who keeps vegan. Both were SO happy with the evening. Service on Sat was not great, but that has never been a problem in the past.
One entree and one appetizer were delicious; the other entree and appetizer were meh. Will give the restaurant another try. Hoping we caught an off night.
We had a wonderful birthday meal at scratch .. the food is quirky yet very authentic, and deLicious. The portions are comfortable and the atmosphere is relaxed . There is a familiarity to this place tucked into a Troy Hill neighborhood and we’ll definitely be back.
Quite expensive. Good, but obscure selections and high prices
There seemed to be no AC at the restaurant, so it was very hot.
I made a reservation for my birthday to come to this hip restaurant that came highly recommended by several friends. When we arrived at the time of the reservation, the restaurant was quiet and we saw the hostess iPad by the front door. While there was no hostess or sign stating that we should wait to be seated, but the existence of the iPad + reservation system indicated to us that we should wait. We waited, quite obviously I should add - both my partner and I are over 6 feet tall, while 4 different members of the staff looked at us and continued to ignore us. After 5 minutes of waiting, we actively asked the bartender if we were supposed to seat ourselves and she aggressively asked if we had a reservation. When we confirmed that we did, she sat us in what was the darkest corner of the restaurant. We saw this same awkward interaction occur with another couple after we had been seated, so the occurrence was not a fluke that just happened to us. As it was my birthday, I was hoping that this strange start to the meal would not be indicative of the rest of the experience, but unfortunately, it didn't get better. We ordered 5 dishes - 2 small plates, 1 soup, 1 large plate, and 1 from the snacks option. The snack dish - the marinated mushrooms - was the best thing we order and was truly delicious. The large plate, the Lamb Ragu, and the soup, the Gazpacho, were so salty that it was distracting and the Gazpacho was inedible. The remaining 2 small plates, Ful Medames + Moussaka, were palatable but did not provide us with anything to write home about. The service of the 3 of the staff members that we interacted with once seated was highly underwhelming for a restaurant that touts themselves as "service oriented", missing basic table service items such as neglecting to fill our empty water cups. Finally, not that I expect a banner or free dessert when visiting a restaurant for a birthday, it would have been nice for them to mention it when it is listed in the reservation.
We had a fantastic time at Scratch. Great food and very friendly staff.
killer green tomato gazpacho, and the halibut was cooked to perfection and well paired with the ratatouille!
Once again the food was SPECTACULAR! Four of us had different entrees and each of us were so delighted. The green tomato gazpacho is not to be missed.
I had been wanting to try Scratch for quite some time and I wish I had gone sooner. The food was absolutely outstanding and the service was fantastic. We got lucky and actually had one of the owners, Don, as our waiter. He was fabulous and made our experience even better. Scratch had a prixe fixe menu that was outstanding and a real bargain at $35 for five courses. Each course was better than the next. The portions were the right size and I didn’t leave feeling overly full. The plating and presentation of each course was beautiful. The cocktails were also delicious and made from scratch. Scratch has a great beer and wine list as well. At Don’s suggestion we tried amaro after dinner - it was the perfect digestif to end a perfect and really fun meal. We will definitely be returning.
We have really loved scratch and have referred many friends. The last visit wasn’t up to par. Service was good, but the food was not as good as it has been in the past... not bad, but not knock out. We were a little disappointed because we love this place and I am not inclined to go back anytime soon. So Sorry!
