The food was really yummy and Tammy, our waitress, was awesome!!
We dined here for my husband’s birthday. We were looking for something different, not your big chain restaurant. We have been trying to support more local businesses. This did not disappoint! The food was amazing, the service was fast, and the atmosphere reminded us of an English pub. We will definitely be adding this restaurant to our list of favorites!!
My wife and I have been eating at the Red Lion for a couple of years now. The pub genuinely feels like what we experienced in Scotland and Ireland. This time we were seated in the Science Hill restaurant which was fantastic, especially during the Christmas season. The food is alway interesting and different making foe an adventure. We had her parents with us and brother and sister in law. Two of the ladies ordered the pork chop and all I can say is that it was amazing! My wife shared a few bites as she expressed her pleasure eating this wonderful dish. It was perfectly cooked with visible juice at every cut. The vegetables that accompanied matched the quality and taste. I had the veal lasagna which was good but not what I would say great. A little dry and over cooked with less veal than I expected. We finished with a fabulous piece of vanilla cheese cake that everyone loved. My only concern with the meal was the size of the side salads we ordered. At $8 and $10, they should have been larger than the few bites on a small plate. The quality was good, just not enough for the money. Finally, the service was outstanding. Attentive, friendly and eager to please. Nice work guys!
New Years celebration dinner was the perfect way to spend the evening. The food was amazing!
Food was very good.
Great relaxed atmosphere.
The food was exquisite and the service was exceptional. This restaurant knows how to do it right. Bravo!!
The Red Lion was lovely from start to finish. We went for Boxing Day brunch and enjoyed everything from the food to the service to the ambiance. The staff did a wonderful job of ensuring social distancing was taking place and I felt very comfortable. I can't wait to come back! Thank you!
Beautifully decorated, lovely ambiance. Wait staff very attentive. Food was full of flavor and plentiful.
Great menu. pick anything and you will enjoy. Excellent drinks.
Social distancing. Therefore very quiet. Excellent food. Limited menu though.
The staff went out of their way to make our Thanksgiving dinner special. All served in disposable dishes and we got the absolutely perfect serving of each dish. We ate in the Atrium with the high ceilings, distanced tables and beautiful decorations.
Thank you to all at Science Hill for the perfect Thanksgiving meal!
I had the hot brown! It was very good!
Would definitely recommend!
Food was bland. No presentation. Soup was cold. Waitress couldn’t get it right, food order & wrong check.
Always enjoyed Science Hill for an exceptional lunch all these years. Won’t be back after last forgettable dining experience
The room has been opened up by removing tables. But, the historic feel of the room remains. The service was attentive and the food was good. I really enjoyed the salmon croquettes with grilled asparagus. The hot water cornbread is a blast from the past. A trip to Science Hill Inn is a holiday tradition in my family.
Overall good experience.
What a wonderful and delightful place to come visit. I found the fare quite scrumptious and downed every morsel like it was my last. Anyone that speak ill of this place is woefully inept and also ancient in the small world they inhabit. I pity anyone that does not have the fortitude and common sense to come out visit the best place in shelbyville. Under this new management they are doing an excellent job and propelling this restaurant forward. They keep the past and yet change for the betterment of the future. The management have breathed new life in to this place. I have had a wonderful experience everytime i have been here and so will you. Giving this place a bad review is basically putting your stupidity on parade for all to see.
The food was good but barely warm. It does no good for servers to wear gloves if they touch their faces or hair with them.
Obviously due to COVID restrictions they were operating at a reduced level, both in terms of menu options and staff, and we had some issues with fried chicken breasts not being fully cooked through, but it was all good in the end and remains a personal and state wide favorite. It’s classic and cozy and remains a high recommendation.
The food is fabulous. However, Science Hill, like everybody else, has no help. I think there were just two servers and they were overwhelmed.
Beautiful historic courtyard setting with creative, well prepared food. Wintertime the Red Lion has a cozy room with a large bourbon selection. The salmon croquettes were enjoyed by 2 of my friends. Good Shepherds pie. Recommend the beer cheese appetizer, delicous!
Although under new management, there is something major missing at science hill. I hope new management will visit with the past so it can continue strong in the future. Sad to see one of my favorite places loose it’s footing (and customers).
We had a delicious dinner in a delightful historic atmosphere. Recommending this experience to all.
The Science Hill of yesterday is gone.
The food is good but scaled down a bit.
My friend's pork chop was overcooked.
I received a tiny portion of bread pudding.
The staff seemed hurried.
I will go back in memories of yesterday.
From the moment the waitress puts Down a basket of warm fresh baked biscuits and hush puppies , you know this is going to be good. Delicious food, great service and beautiful setting.
Excellent service in a great atmosphere. Not for noisy gatherings but great for quiet meals with friends.
This place is just so special, partly due to it's historical ambiance that cannot be matched, but also due to the consistent outstanding quality of food and service. White table clothes and crystal with flowers at the table set a somewhat formal tone, but the servers are friendly and relaxed and it feels like you're in a dear friend's formal dining room in the South. We went this time for a prix-fixe Valentines Day dinner, and it was just lovely. Reasonable bar service prices and selections were available. The starters were delicious and generous, as were the salads, main courses and desserts. Science Hill never disappoints and I always leave feeling a little bit closer to my KY roots.
The menu was set for this evening. It was a little pricey for what you got. The heat must not have been working because it was super cold in the restaurant which made the food pretty lukewarm. But even the cool steak was delicious!! The atmosphere was nice for a quiet Valentine’s dinner. Go for lunch it’s delicious and reasonably priced!!
I can't say enough about the evening at Science Hill. It exceeded our expectations with the food, the environment and the service. What a gem!
Went on Valentines night. Had a fixed price menu only. Was not aware beforehand. Regular menu was #15-$30 price range per person. Fixed price was $60. Dining room was 70% full but had to wait 15 minutes before water was brought. Food was outstanding. Filet mignon, about 6-8 oz was extremely tender.
Well I was very disappointed when we realized after we sat down they the menu advertised on the Open Table site was wrong. It was for 2019 and DID NOT STATE that this evening was a pre fixed menu that showed NO PRICES. Our meal for two was $140.00. Wow. Sticker shock. The service was ok but not great. The building was very cold like they had no heat on. Bathrooms were cold the lobby was cold etc. The ravioli app was two pieces that looked like they opened a can of Chef Boy Rdee ravioli. The salad was ehhhh. NO BREAD. Took a long time to get food. We could have had better meal and service at a high end steak house and not cost as much. We won’t be back and when we mentioned it to the staff they said well we had this info on on Facebook page. And I said not everyone uses Facebook to book a reservation. Oh well. Lesson learned
Great place to go especially for Valentines. All the staff was great.
Be a patron for years.
My favorite restaurant EVER.
It was a buffet on Sunday which was not advertised online. Server was very slow bring us drinks. Food was mediocre. Not worth the price with the set menu. They should do brunch food instead if they are only going to do a buffet.
We celebrated a friends 80th birthday only to find her class mate from Sacred Heart High School was celebrating there too. How fun. Both ladies 80.
Don’t forget about this place. Whether for a special occasion, or not. You’ll feel special. Meatloaf is tremendously flavorful. Glass of wine and coffee with bread budding.
The dining Experience is like a spa for the soul.
This was my second time to Science Hill with the first being during the busy rush of the holiday season. This time the dining room was very quiet and we enjoyed the ambience. It is hard to beat this place for its charm. The house salad was wonderful... full of fresh veggies and good dressing. Fried green tomato “lasagna” was a good choice with a zesty remoulade. Service was wonderful with friendly people available to help us throughout the meal. Shopping at Wakefield Scarce and the little rooms after is such a treat too. I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t like this place!
We were there at one thirty and half of the Buffett was empty. It was not refilled (not all items) until approximately 10 minutes later. Salad was out, green beans were out, something in the meat area was out and pasta salad was out. I was NOT worth $25 per person.
Tradition lives here in every good sense of the word. The food choices savor Southern cooking. Much of the staff has been there for many years, and they do excellent and attentive work. We’ve been going here for decades and we’ll be back.
delicious food (chicken Florentine) & great service,
I found a hair in my chicken dish - didn't tell anyone but it ruined the meal for me. I was with a friend and didn't want to ruin her experience for being in such a wonderful place for the first time since she was a child.
Ouf of 4 lunches, only one was not cooked properly. The beef tips were tough and not good. The remaining lunches were quite good but very pricey. Not sure the food items offer enouhh value for the price.
