An Italian expression that means “little shoe” – or the shape bread takes when used to soak up a dish — Scarpetta represents the pure pleasure of savoring a meal down to its very last taste. Amongst many accolades, Scarpetta NYC received a three-star review from The New York Times and a nomination for Best New Restaurant in the country from the James Beard Foundation in 2009.

As someone who dines frequently, Scarpetta is always amazing to me, because it is perfect from start to finish. The octopus, polenta and pasta were a symphony of different and delectable flavors and textures to my palate. I look forward to my next experience.
Waited for an hour to get seated...
Great as always - attentive team, good wine choice, although probably not enough in the lower range, and excellent food. The polenta, as always was a major highlight.
Good ambiance, but two seafood dishes black cod and halibut not seasoned properly. Halibut very bland. My fault, but I did not notice we were charged $19 for a dish we did not order.
Incredible meal at Scarpetta, first visit and would return for certain! Servers were on point and quite knowledgeable. Unique combinations with the freshest of ingredients. My husband had the duck and said it was incredible. The Cauliflower Romanesco was so fresh and delightful with a simple light sauce. We ended with the Valrhona flourless and it was to die for! I would say it’s pricey but in NYC it doesn’t surprise me. Well done Scarpetta!
Long deserved date night
The food was amazing (bread, pasta, etc). The service was ok. Waiter forgot one of the orders, brought a cocktail ordered in the beginning of the meal at the end of the night and the kitchen added an ingredient that was requested to be removed from the dish.
Obviously, one of the premier Italian restaurants in Manhattan. Restaurant was very busy but Brad our server, provided us with exemplary service. Food to match. We all eat the black cod. Could not have been better. Looking forward to our next visit.
Always great experience.
I sent a private note to the restaurant in space provided below.
Scarpetta makes some of the best pasta I’ve ever had. It’s a pricey place overall, especially the wine list, but you are getting a quality guarantee for that price point. I would go again, for special occasions.
Food: just okay
Service: very good
Room: big, a bit noisy, young sharply dressed crowd
$: way high
Love the ambience, the waiters were charming, and the sommelier was very helpful and knowledgeable. Disappointingly though, food was just ok. The bone marrow and short rib pasta tasted more like potatoe. The black cod was fishy and not that flavorful. I might go back to try other dishes but that would be the last attempt.
The food tastes great just be prepared for small portions when ordering. Not a great value considering what you get. Nice location.
Scallops were best I’ve had. Lobster pasta was light and delicious.
This restaurant came highly recommended. I have eaten in many Italian restaurants. My husband ordered the halibut and they brought him a small portion of just the tail. Two pieces of tail I think. We travel a lot and we order halibut when available. Never have I seen such a dish served of the tail - always a plump filet. I got the tagliatelle and mine was good, but skimpy on the shellfish to be included. We do not mind paying for good food, but this was too expensive for what was served. I like Chardonnay, but they only offered one and it was $30/glass. I still had 2 glasses. It was very good, but I see on line, they normally have other options for less money. Maybe just Holiday prices! ;-) Server was distracted most of the time as well. We will probably not go back.
Nice place, buzzy crowd, tasty food, waiter was quite forgetful.
Delicious food, amazing service
Scarpetta is one of my favorite NYC restaurants for lunch/brunch. The difference between lunch & dinner is monumental......it goes from quiet, relaxed with great service to a madhouse of noise, outrageously loud music & haphazard service. You need to scream across the table to be heard......I just gave up.
I will always return for the best spaghetti this side of Italy, but don't go for dinner if you want to speak to your companion(s) & expect attentive service.
This was NYE. An accident happened at the beginning of our meal — causing the waiter to spill 6 glasses of champagne on my friend, who was wearing a silk gown. They apologized and took an extensive amount of time to help her clean up. At one point, she was standing waiting, and several dinner guests commented with empathy. She was uncomfortable and sticky the whole night— not to mention the potential damage to the dress. I inquired about putting her meal on the house, and they said they would “take care of her tonight.” The Service was slow afterwards, and they didn’t take off anything from the pre fix meal ($195 pp, plus drinks). At the end, they gave us a $50 gift card to come back. We just paid and left abruptly. Well actually, the coat check lost track of my coat and her umbrella, so we didn’t leave as soon as we’d like to have. Really appalling.
AmaZing food and amazing service
New Years Eve
A true dining experience...
On,y significant complaint is that the food comes out so quick that a) you feel rushed and b) it couldn’t have been prepared fresh. This seems to be routine now with big restaurants because it maximizes turnover in very expensive space. But if you are out for a leisurely dinner it’s a big turnoff. Otherwise, food, wine, table service, everything was fantastic.
Loved this restaurant and will definitely be back! I knew we were in for a treat when the complimentary bread basket came out- warm & freshly made - always a great start. The creamy polenta appetizer served with truffle mushrooms was heavenly. The homemade pastas and fresh fish were deliciously creative & beautifully plated. I'm not one for dessert but be sure to leave room and order the Espresso Budino!
Excellent service, everything was delicious.
Fabulous meal and experience!
Food was ok. Wagyu was overcooked. Nothing special about the food honestly. Not worth the money. Dessert was better than the meal. Could have easily gone to much cheaper destinations for a better meal.
Great food and excellent service
I was very disappointed in the food and service at Scarpetta. The service was amateurish, reflecting a lack of sufficient training of the staff. Butter plates were set on the table, then removed, then a bread basket was brought and the bread plates brought back. The food was was not adequately prepared, served at insufficient
warmth, and had bland taste. My dining companion’s seafood was
mushy and unappetizing. Even coffee was a challenge as it was served lukewarm. I have eaten at Scarpetta in Miami Beach and had a 4 star dining experience. This was a collapse of dining standards. My experience was not isolated as the next table experienced similar disappointment.
Excellent as always. Always consistent. Never disappoints. Better than ever!
Service was outstanding and the food was everything we’d hoped for - definitely a foodie’s dream.
Kitchen is heavy on the salt
Tuna sushi was salty and so was the cod entree
Portions for entrees very small
Overpriced for the minuscule sizes
Would not go back
Food was delicious. Everything we tried was tasty. Service was great and friendly as well.
The food and live music was amazing! Can’t wait to come back.
I hate when people start out talking about price so I won’t! Just accept it.
The spaghetti is phenomenal, crazy good. Get one to table share. Scallops are very good and lobster black tagliatelle too. Yellowtail crudo is beautiful. My chicken was just okay I think they could do this way better. Ps- The spaghetti recipe is on the internet thanks to Scott. A great public service dude!!!!
Clearly overpriced for what we received. Plain pomodoro spaghetti dish was $26 and needed more sauce.
Duck dish was tasty
service was poor
the food was mediocre felt rushed
I wouldn't go back
Always reliably great! Great pastas and seafood!!!!
