We always love dining with Scarlett Oak!!!
Very conveniently located in Navy Yard area, near Metro. Menu offered a good range of options moderately priced.
Very good and comfortable. busy but not too much. great stop after the ballgame!
I've been here once before and decided to come here again to help celebrate my friend's 25th birthday. We had a table of 4 at 1pm on a Sunday.
The birthday girl ordered bottomless mimosas and the other friend is allergic to OJ so had to swap out for cranberry juice. Our server told us that would be a $2 charge per glass -- yeah, for a splash of cranberry juice.
Because of this, our server refused to bring the carafe of mimosas for the birthday girl. Every other table with diners having bottomless mimosas had individual carafes, as this place always does.
I asked the manager to bring a carafe of the mimosas for my friend just like everyone else. He goes back and forth with me about how the kitchen is looking for more carafes, and before I could reply he said, "Yeah, okay" and walked away.
30 minutes later our server shows back up and I again ask that my friend have a carafe and point to the 2 tables in my eyes sight where individual people have their own carafes. She tells me that those tables aren't supposed to have those and she doesn't know how it happened.
I let her know that whatever rules she "suddenly" wants to enforce seem targeted and discriminatory.
20 mins later she brings over a very OJ heavy carafe of mimosas. Interesting.
Sadly, the entrees weren't all that great this time.
I ordered the fried chicken Benedict...nothing like a canned biscuit, right?
When my friend asked if the chicken and waffles was made with white or dark meat, she replied,
"A mix maybe? It's a little pink."
The deviled eggs and Brussel sprouts were great, but definitely not enough to make me come back and experience this type of treatment. In D.C. you can find a much better mimosas, food and service. Scarlet Oak isn't worth the Uber or Metro fare.
Great food and service! I love the atmosphere and festive environment.
Very nice restaurant, outside sitting, food was very good!
Maybe for the drinks but the food was not that great. Also for a Ssturday it was not lively at all.
Always a great burger!
There are better restaurants offering better value die money in the Area.
Very good experience. Went to Scarlet Oak after a Nationals game. All the dishes we ordered were very good - fresh, nice presentation, tasty! Service was also good. We sat outside in covered patio area. Would recommend it.
Excellent food, mimosas, and service for a Saturday brunch. Good value, tasty Benedict, and attentive service. Would definitely come back
This is the best restaurant in DC. Best food and best servers and bartenders. No better place in town!
The crab cake had too much filler and the fries were cold (my mother didn't even finish half of the sandwich). The desserts were good.
The Brussels sprouts and fried cauliflower were to die for!
Its a quiet restaurant that initially I thought was closed, since it was a bit empty for a Saturday evening. I thought it was in the heart of the Nats Park area, but it's actually a neighborhood restaurant at the base of a residence building. Ordered mussels (which was one of their specials), sliders, mac and cheese, tuna tartare and fish tacos. All the food was fine, nothing stood out or was particular tasty or different. Can't remember the name of one of the cocktails, but it was not good. ended up not drinking it. I suppose for a neighborhood place, it was acceptable but not a restaurant I would make a special effort to go to.
The Brussel Sprout app was very good as were curry deviled eggs. I had the Bibb salad with steak. The steak was gristly and the salad was only ok. It was disappointing. My friend had a burger and she seemed to enjoy it very much so no complaints with the burger. Service was very good and the sangria is amazingly refreshing on a hot summer 100 degree day!
My stirfry vegetables was almost inedible. The broccoli so tough I couldn't cut it with my knife and ditto for string beans (who uses American green beans in stir fry?) And why not some other vegetables? The chef also has a very heavy hand with the sugar both in the gazpacho and the stirfry. The stirfry was almost caramelized it was so sweet. My gazpacho starter tasted okay but was so watery it was not very appealing. So disappointed.
Great food and reasonably priced. We ate there for lunch and would definitely go back. Note they only do lunch on Friday -Sunday.
Our server was outstanding, low-key but humorous and good-natured. The food was great. My first time here, it was also clear it was a neighborhood joint and familiar faces welcomed.
Our food was pretty tasty and the menu had a little something for everyone. We were seated quickly but service was somewhat slow. Still, a nice brunch spot in the Navy Yard
I had a party of 8 - we were celebrating my birthday. We had a good time. The only tiny complaint is that the food took about an hour to come out. Granted we were talking and laughing so the first 20 minutes we didn’t mind but after awhile it was fairly noticeable.
Love going here for brunch before a Sunday ball game. But need to be sure to allow enough time; the service is often very slow.
Went for Sunday brunch before Nats' game and found Scarlet Oak to be a delightful spot not far from the stadium but without the hustle-bustle of places just outside the ballpark. Good food at reasonable prices. Excellent Bloody Marys too.
We love Scarlett Oak!!!
We’ve dined at Scarlett Oak regularly for at least the past 3 years. The menu here is pretty good, and the service has generally been on spot on, so we definitely were surprised by the poor service we experienced today. Our waitress was inattentive, dishonest, and showed us that we were not a priority by not even come back to close out our check. Dining here (or anywhere) was and is always a choice, and with so many good dining options both in DC writ large and in Navy Yard specifically, it’s imperative that the service stays consistent with what we had experience prior to today.
We had a wonderful dinner, Deviled Egg small plate, Salmon dinner, and Stirfry which was delicious. Attentive waitress. Over all a GREAT experience.
We were very disappointed with Scarlet Oak, which as far as we can tell has committed itself to be a bar at this point and no longer invest in their food.
For dinner I ordered the smoked salmon Bibb salad which was priced at $15 (a price that clearly notes that it is a meal-sized salad). What arrived was 4 pieces of Bibb lettuce scattered on top of which was a piece of cold bacon rough chopped and a handful of candied walnuts. Next to all of this was a slab of smoked salmon. It was a sad, if not completely absent, attempt at food arrangement and for $15, I really honestly wouldn’t have paid $10... even with the salmon. Upon tasting the salad, I discovered that the walnuts were completely rancid - they tasted like burnt plastic and had the texture of crumbling ash.
My date ordered the veggie pizza. It was far beyond what I ordered in appearance, but completely fell apart when he tried to eat it. The crust was soggy and tore. The cheese was rubbery and it was a huge mess.
To add to all this, our waitress visited our table three times total: once to welcome us and take our drink order. Once when she delivered our drinks and took our food order. And once when she gave us the check. Our water glasses were empty the whole time. I was never given the opportunity to send my salad back, or order something else to actually be my dinner given the salad’s tiny size.
The whole dinner was a disappointment and I’m sorry that Scarlet Oak isn’t more dedicated to its food because if it was, it could truly be a neighborhood favorite.
While the service was fine, the food felt mediocre. We ordered the Seafood Bucatini and the Steak Frites.
Excellent food in a very nice ambience. We ate there three times in a weeks stay, and every meal was well prepared and the service was fantastic
Service was slow but the food was good. I was surprised how empty the restaurant was at the height of lunch.
On the negative side: Food was OK, but lacking in taste. Very bland Bibb salad (did someone forget to put vinegar or citrus in the dressing?). Small portion of salmon, for the price. "Gazpacho" looked and tasted like nothing more than crushed tomatoes. Deviled eggs bland. On the positive side: We could hear ourselves talk. Great wine and beer selections. Manager Brian was fabulous, bringing tastes of 3 white wines to help someone decide which glass to order, and listening closely to dietary restrictions. Delightfully relaxed dinner, with no sense of being rushed.... our party sat at a nice patio table for over 3 hours.
This is a favorite go to place before or after a Nats game. The food and drinks are always delicious, service is great and the staff is very friendly.
Bad service. Made a reservation for 3 and they told us they were “at capacity” so couldn’t seat us, even though there were open tables, and we had a reservation. Then when finally sat they tried to tell us they couldn’t serve us because they misread a passport date. Later they came back to tell us off because a SEPARATE group was being loud, one that we had no affiliation with? Overall, very rude service and would not return. Never apologized for being rude either.
Yummy appetizers, but the main meals were mediocre. Our server, Margarita, was great! Five minute walk to the Nats Park. So, it‘s a little out of the way. Not sure the food is worth the walk.
Great bottomless deal, but our food was soggy and borderline inedible. Had the pizza at Magnolia Kitchen and figured it’d be similar—not even close. Server was super friendly and quick on the refill so we drank a lot more than we ate. Get the food back on track and this is a great spot.
very nice midgrade place. Easier to get into than restaurants on the waterfront, better priced and good food. menu has a number of choices from light to hearty appetites. bar seems well stocked.
Stopped in for a bite after a Nat’s game - and had an amazing time! Drinks were excellent (I highly recommend the Water Lilly), burgers were good, and the atmosphere was perfect for catching up with family. We will definitely be back again!
So the ambience and location were great, but not impressed with the food. If you are foodie this place will disappoint you. For drinks it’s a good place.
Nothing to write home about.
