We are located on Hingham's historic Main Street in a 250-year old colonial house that has been thoroughly restored and updated by the award-winning Niemitz Design Group. Our cuisine, led by Executive Chef Stephen Sherman, centers around great steaks and the freshest seafood, although we also offer contemporary versions of classic American comfort food. Our philosophy is that good service is never intimidating service; and that honest, freshly-prepared food can often be more of a luxury than something you can't pronounce.

The Upstairs: One flight up from the main dining room and tavern is a 55-person room that was completely renovated in 2007 to create a ten-foot tray ceiling with antique exposed wooden beams and a working fireplace. There is a private bar and lounge area outside the room that can be used as a gathering area before events. In addition, there are two private rooms upstairs with a single table in each room. One of them can accommodate up to eight people, the other up to twelve. The Wine Room: The Wine Room is a 14-person private room that is separated from the main dining room by the Tavern's hand-crafted wine cabinets. Its unique semi-open design creates the perfect amount of privacy without losing the energy from the main dining room. Our chefs and managers are happy to work with you to create a truly unique experience for you.

Scarlet Oak Tavern is a fine restaurant with a lively bar at one end. They seem to be especially good with meat dishes (steaks, chops). This is one of our go-to places.

Food was good. Service was fine. My daughter and I were asked to move our seats half way through our meal, though. Literally, as our main dish was coming out, we were asked to switch tables. No compensation was offered...also weird. I did tell the manager when we were leaving and he had no idea and offered us a gift certificate (which we didn’t take) but it was still weird. We would go back though; give it another chance.

Unfortunately 2 out of 4 meals were not good. My friend ordered the Mac and cheese which was not served hot. My meal, haddock in corn & bacon chowder, was missing a main ingredient....the bacon, not so flavorful without it. The server did reheat the Mac & Cheese and brought over some bacon but a bit late into the meal. Cocktails were delicious. Will go back again but very disappointing.

I love the food here, and our server was great once we sat down. However, having to wait 45min past my dinner reservation time, and in the meantime having to overhear the snarky host & hostess comments about guests frustrated by these delays was a terrible experience, particularly as our party included a young child. And by the way, the excuse that diners are taking longer than expected to wrap up their meals doesn’t fly. It was he holiday season - of course you should assume longer guest meal times. That’s not “not your fault” - that’s either deliberate over-booking or poor/inexperienced management. Thanks to SO’s poor planning we had to cut our birthday celebration short, basically getting a few bites of our dinner in, and then wrapping up to get our child to bed. Thanks for an awful birthday experience.

The food is great, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, the service is just right, there's a nice wine selection at fair prices... you can't go wrong. Except, the parking situation is awful. At busy times, the valet gets busy and there's a line of cars extending out to the busy street. I wish they would just make the general parking lot bigger! The valet mess seems to cause more trouble than it's worth.

Great place. Rather noisy for this brunch just before Christmas, but that is to be expected. Place was packed. Nice service but a bit rushed. Good brunch menu. My husband's meal wasn't quite hot enough. Good drinks from the bar.
