Sbicca - Del Mar Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed our dinner and the service was good. However, we did feel the entrees are rather overpriced.
Unfortunately our evening birthday celebration was spoiled by the fact we received a parking ticket from the City of Del Mar for the outrageous amt of $40. We parked at 7:30pm and thought the meters ended at 6pm. The parking spot was in an unlit area and we were unable to see the times on the meter. Due to the lack of parking in Del Mar and the City's "grinch" attitude we probably won't return to Del Mar. We think all landlords in Del Mar should complain to the City about lack of parking and their long meter hours.
Eating at Sbicca was like being in heaven! Every bite is amazing. The chef produces some wonderful and unique menu items, and I have never been disappointed. I only wish I could have had room for dessert--I'm sure they are equally delectable. The atmosphere and view are great! Go there!
We went for Thanksgiving while visiting Del Mar and were really impressed. The special menu was well conceived
And well executed. The star was a "prime rib of pork" - a double thick chop that was moist and savory. Despite the
Holiday, wine was 50 percent off (already reasonably prices) which allowed us to taste
An outstanding wine. Service and ambience were great.
Our group of 6 (2 grandparents, 2 kids and 2 parents) all enjoyed our dishes and dining experience having Thanksgiving dinner here. I had the traditional turkey dinner, which was excellent - just simple and tasty turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes. I prefer stuffing with a little veg crunch (like celery) and a little less dry, but everything else was perfect or close to it. Others said the steak and salmon were delicious. Wonderful lobster bisque. Kids loved their kids' meals - chicken fingers, sliders and mac & cheese (which the adults also gratefully shared). The plush ambience, including cozy fire, and thoughtful service was like having a chef and a wait staff serving you at home.
Service was very good considering two large groups had just arrived in our section before us. Waiter had to correct check twice for the 50% off bottled wine. We had to catch the mistakes. Chicken seemed 'processed' but the rest of the dishes were delicious. Overall we love Sbicca and Susan Sbicca remains one of our favorite chefs.
The food and service were great but the manager was terrible as he had a personal and loud conversation with the hostess the entire two hours we were there which could be heard by everyone. Both we and the table next to us said we should interject our comments to get him to stop. Even the bartender asked him if he was bored to which he answered yes!! The place was 90% full and he was bored! How about checking with each table to see how their experience is going rather than chit chatting w the hostess? The bus boy had the most professional behavior of all and thanked us for coming when we left.
Our party had beef, pasta, pork and swordfish and all were excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and had a great sense humor. We sat inside, it was cool outside. The dining room was small but very comfortable. Outdoor dining looked fun also. This was a very good value for the cost.
Good but not great. Fairly overpriced. Without the midweek 50% discount on wines, having wine with your meal would be out of the question.
Food was decent, although I wouldn't go there again primarily because of the prices. If you sit on the upper deck, make sure you sit near lighting. In the middle of the deck, you won't be able to read your menus.
We went to Sbicca for a special occasion and had a very good experience. We particularly liked the antipasto starter, and we hardly noticed the server for most of the meal, which was nice because we enjoyed being focused on each other with few distractions. Entrees came out a little early, and I would advise calling to make sure ocean view terrace seating is available if you intend to sit outside. Inside/outside seating is assigned based on availability when you arrive for your reservation, however, when we arrived, we were informed that there was a private party on the terrace and the only outside seating available was on the streetside patio (still nice, slight view of the ocean, good view of town and people walking along the street).
My husband and I dined at Sbicca for our 18th wedding anniversary and was able to sit on the outdoor patio, which had a fantastic view of the Pacific Ocean. Our waiter was very attentive and sensitive to our occasion. My sweet brother called ahead of time and ordered us up a bottle of wine (on him), which was well received by the management at Sbicca. The food was very well presented and deliciously prepared! Very savory and tasty! We were also offered a free dessert for our anniversary! To boot, the sun set during our dinner, which gave us and others dining on the paito an opportunity to see a green flare. Very romantic. Perfect. I highly recommend Sbicca to anyone!
I really enjoyed the place. We shared a bottle of wine and had the Antipasto, which was OK, I think it could have included more quality (cheeses, olives, and pickles) for the price the meats were fine. The Fish looked good and the service was excellent.
I would go back and enjoy the patio again and try their other dishes. Again the service was really good and for the price they made you feel special enough with out interrupting the conversation.
We've eaten here many, many times -- the food is very good and the service is usually as good. Unfortunately this last time our service experience was very disappointing. Upon arrival, we notified our waiter that we would be celebrating my elderly aunt's birthday. We inquired about sitting inside (it was drizzling) but they said they had no tables inside. They attempted to seat us on the upstairs covered patio but we declined as my elderly aunt was unable to climb the long flight of stairs. We were seated in the covered patio area near the entrance under a heat lamp. Throughout our time there (2 bottles wine, appetizer, dinner for 4 & dessert) we had to get up and find our waiter 3 separate times. Very disappointing -- left 15% tip.
Really wish that we had tried this place sooner, lived in Del Mar for 2 years and went there for the first time recently. We had an excellent evening, cocktails at the bar before having a delicious meal, fish cooked to perfection and scrumptious desert. Atmosphere and seating on the terrace were great and all of the staff were friendly, professional and charismatic. A very enjoyable evening.
