Sbicca - Del Mar Ratings and Reviews
We had a reservation on Christmas Eve. We arrived right on time for our reservation and were told that we would be seated within 15 min., "at most". It was cold outside and we had our young kids with us. After about 25 min., when I asked, I was told by the woman at the reception that we would be seated immediately. She disappeared. After another five minutes I asked a man now at the reception about our table and told we would be seated "soon". After another 5 min. we finally were taken to a table. There seemed to be numerous guests arriving after us who were previously seated despite our reservation. Towards the end of the dinner, the woman at the reception who had disappeared reappeared and offered us a complimentary dessert as an apology for the delayed and chaotic seating. The food was great and ambiance fine. We appreciated the complimentary dessert. All this said, I don't think we are out of line with our disappointment with how we were treated with regards to being shown to a table. Sbicca management, you can do better. Please do.
Had a great experience being my first time. We were celebrating 3 friends birthdays and took advantage of the no corckage fee on Monday night. Waitress was great and food was amazing, only good things to say and will be back. Great value for ambiance, food and service.
Came here for a quiet evening with a friend, reservations made 2 weeks in advance. Ended up seated in the upstairs room which was cold, not well decorated, and next to a large, very noisy table whose occupants screeched and loudly laughed, making it impossible to hear my companion. I suppose we should have asked to move, but we already had our food and I would have preferred that our server offered to move us. Food was OK, service was decent although not especially great, but I will hesitate to return to this restaurant due to the issues above.
We had a wonderful Sunday lunch at Sbicca's. The food was very yummy. I had Spinach and Avocado Eggs Benedict and ate every bite on my plate. The Mimosa's were tasty as well. The service was perfect - not too little - not too much. We sat on the patio and it was very pleasant.
I hadn't been here for a couple years. The food seems to be not as good. I had pork and it was too rare and not enough taste. My friend had the squash ravioli since he is vegetarian and he did like that. initially we were seated inside in a back room w/ a family so I asked to be moved outside. I never like it when a restaurant tries to put you in their worst seats. We did have a reservation. They did move us when I asked.
Overall kind of an average experience but in the past I would have expected more than average.
After enjoying the crab cakes, we ordered dinner. I told the waiter I was thinking about the tuna but wanted something with bones for my dog. He suggested the pork chop and I should leave some meat on the bone for my dog. I thought that was a good idea as I have a small dog and the pork chops (and the bones) would be fine. The pork chop was large and juicy and I left some meat on the bones for my dog. I didn't finish my meal and got a 'doggy' bag for my leftovers including the bones with meat. When I got home, I opened the bag to feed my dog and there were no bones. They never made it in the bag.
I know this is not a horrible experience but it was clear that our waiter took our order, brought the food and took my money. Just like they do at Carls Jr. I wish the service was as nice as the restaurant. Unfortunate, they felt they could hire anyone to serve food. The is a blemish on the restaurant and our experience.
Had a great dinner, meal and service were outstanding.
We were in town with friends for The Breeders Cup Races and looking for a local/upscale restaurant and found Sibicca the perfect spot.
Was surprised when we sat down...as Bobby Flay and a large party were sitting right behind us, so we knew we were in for a unique dining experience and none of us were disappointed.
The food and service were good. The restaurant has a casual and trendy vibe with a good outdoor patio although the patio tables do get damp quickly from the evening fog, which is something that the restaurant should address by perhaps putting up an awning or using the heaters more .
The good food and half-priced bottles of wine was what brought us there (went with a group of six). Unfortunately, they were out of Rombauer Chardonnay, our first choice. We ordered the crab and lobster cakes (hadn’t realized they were deep-fried, which was a little disappointing); Korean beef (pretty good but not really Korean-flavored—I would lose the strawberries and mint and add more garlic and sesame oil); bacon-wrapped shrimp (perfection—perfectly paired with a delicious jalapeño crema); ahi tuna (yum) and; truffle fries (outstanding— crispy and generously truffled). Oh, and caramel swirl cheesecake for dessert (I’m not really a dessert person but had one bite and it was excellent.
The service was very good although we did feel a bit rushed at the end. I think the staff was in a hurry to get out and it was just about closing time, although we were certainly not the last customers there.
Usually one of my favorite places to eat. Can't beat the ambiance and views of the ocean!! The food this time was good for entree but meh for sides. Cauliflower was a bit undercooked and no flavor , the Brussels sprouts were over sauced and not great. Fries were ok but not amazing. Trout was good.
This is my wife and my favorite Del Mar restaurant. The crab and lobster bisque soup is simply the best soup I have ever had at any restaurant in this country....and I travel for business every week and eat out almost every night
I loved the Butternut Squash ravioli. The sauce, like that which flavor most of the dishes here, was outstanding. My wife got the sea scallops, something she never gets because when they are not dine right, they're horrible. These sea scallops were tremendous and the sauce they were flavored with was perfect for this dish.
Originally, my wife was seated upstairs where we have enjoyed sitting before, however on this Friday night it was packed with huge parties of 8, 10 and 12 and far too loud for us to carry on a conversation so we moved to the front outdoor patio. I don't recommend sitting upstairs, despite the change for a bit of a view, unless it is only couples dining as any group of 2 or more and you will be struggling to have a conversation.
I made a reservation for 12 ppl for my birthday. Initially, I was pleasantly surprised--they put us in a private room on the 2nd floor. However, it deteriorated from there as it seemed out of sight out of mind. When the server was there, he would stand at one end of the table and basically made everyone shout their order to him down the table disrupting all conversation and gave an elegant setting a pub feel, which is not what I was going for. I knew going in we were not going to be a big spender table - several non-drinking vegans in the party, so I was prepared to make it worth the server's time with a healthy extra cash gratuity.
However, the lack of service - because it was just lacking overall or because it was clear early on that we weren't a big spender table and he focused elsewhere, I don't know --but the poor service changed my mind and I gave him nothing extra. The room got hot, no inquiry into our comfort. Water glasses went unfilled - only one refill the entire night. Bar minimum of service provided. Good food was Sbicca's saving grace this evening. For this reason only would I try Sbicca again, but I'm not running back and certainly would be careful about having any kind of larger special event here.
