Had a great time here. Friday night at 6:30 and wasn’t too crowded of loud.
We did a tapas dinner and everything was great. Waiter was attentive without making me feel like he was mothering me.
Only gripe was about parking - a nice, normal parking lot would have been better than the valet or parking on the street options. But a small issue for such a great experience.
I would recommend to my friends but I will say that my fiancee and I had to overcome a pretty big hurdle right from the start. We had reservations for Saturday at 7:30pm. We arrived on time and our table wasn't ready yet so we sat at the bar. That was fine and we had Martini's which were amazing. The problem came when were seated. It took about 20 MINS for our table to be ready and then it took another 30 MINS before our waiter greeted us. We weren't even offered water during that time. And different wait staff passed us frequently. The whole time, the female manager stood watching all of this happen and did NOTHING. Finally a bus boy came by and asked if we had been helped and then he turned out to be our server for the evening. He was great! From then on we enjoyed ourselves but the problem with management here is that they handle the big tables and their regulars better than other tables. It wasn't until the manager saw that we ordered the most expensive dish on the menu that we got any attention at all. Food was great though but I wish the staff treated every table the same! You never know who you're serving!
Sayola has become our go to restaurants from business lunches, to dinners to celebrate big events, to casual family brunches. Why?
First and foremost the food is awesome. Ever meal that I have had at Sayola has been outstanding...not just good. The tapas selection covers all the bases and works to start off the meal or as the meal in it's entirety. The entrees are delicious, generous is size and have a home cooked quality to them.
The servers are attentive but don't hover over you. They strike a great balance and seem to enjoy their job.
I recommend Sayola to all my friends in the area because it is an exemplary restaurant.
48th wedding anniversary
First time at Sayola in Tenafly. We had been to Sayola in Montclair, this restaurant is better by far. Great food, exceptional sangria, amazing flan, great service, a warm and inviting vibe. We will be back!
My second visit to Sayola and I have to say how incredible the food is. I had the Tapas with grilled Octopus and Lamb ribs. It was so flavorful that I ordered seconds. The wait staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. I’m gonna make my third visit very soon!
The food was delicious especially the steak. The restaurant is beautiful and clean. The bathrooms were very nice as well. Money was spent and it shows. Our waiter was excellent. The fireplace is beautiful but our waiter said it can't be used due to some restrictions. It would be lovely to have on in the winter. My husband and will definitely be back. It was my birthday day dinner and i really enjoyed it
The food was not tasty. Valet parking was impressive. Sangria was very good. Appetizers were also not tasty. Bathrooms were super clean. The customer service was below average. Greeting was not friendly. Very expensive place, yet service and food does not meet expectations unfortunately. Need new chef and friendlier staff.
Very friendly ambiance with professional waiters. They answered all of our questions about the menu patiently - the food was amazing as well!
This was our first visit to Sayola. The atmosphere is nice...Don Quixote and Sancho figures in entryway, fireplace in dining room. Large bar. I'm going to compare the food to "El Cid" in Paramus and "Segovia" in Moonachie. The gambas con garlic were very good...tender and garlicky. My husband's seafood in green sauce was also good, but seemed to lack flavor, They offered us complimentary cream of broccoli soup, which was thin and also could have had more flavor. I had a chicken dish. Rolled chicken with mancheco, roasted pepper, mushroom and asparagus with a mushroom gravy. This was lightly breaded and encased the chicken. I did not care for this very much, Loved the asparagus flavor, but all other ingredients were bland, The accompanying yellow rice and potato "chips" were fine. All in all I would give it a "C" rating, Our waiter was very attentive and professional. Other staff members were friendly and pleasant,
We went for lunch and the food was fantastic. I loved the decor of the restaurant.
Awesome experience. I celebrated my birthday at Sayola. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The entertainment was very upbeat. The atmosphere very cozy and the sangria (red and white) both very delicious. Thank you for such a great experience. New York City dining experience in nearby Tenafly, NJ.
Great service and delicious food. Especially the seafood casserole.
Visited Sayola with friends for the first time last Saturday. Definitely worth the 55-mile drive (one way)! We wanted to order a selection of tapas and stuck to our plan, even though the entrees coming out of the kitchen looked equally delicious.
The tapas plates were much larger than we expected. One was incredibly huge with stuffed mushrooms, shrimp in garlic, chorizo, fried calamari and potato croquettes. I never saw any tapas remotely close to that size in Spain...Luckily our server was able to expand our round table to accommodate the large platter! Another plate with octopus was excellent. After ordering four plates with a pitcher of Sangria (also very good), we were completely full....but we hated to leave without trying the desserts...
We managed to order rice pudding, dulce de leche cake, flan and chocolate-covered pistachio ice cream with raspberry sauce, along with the expresso and café con leche....all were excellent. (Did I mention how full we were?)
Last but certainly not least was the staff. From the moment we walked in, everyone was friendly and welcoming. The décor of the restaurant really does evoke a Spanish tavern...a very comfortable ambiance. Everything considered, the 110-mile drive was worth it....Sayola was a very nice place to spend a Saturday evening, and we hope to return!
The best Latin restaurant in North Jersey, now I don’t have to drive to Newark. ; )
Waiter brought our appetizers with main entrees at the same time. We were rushed and food was cold.
Food was very good. Portions are large and reasonably priced. Service was attentive though a bit rushed. We had to tell the staff to slow things down. It can be very noisy especially when there is a large party.
Sat for 25 minutes without even a drink order. There were 10 tables at 7pm. Offered soup while we waited for our food, which lead me to believe the kitchen was back up. Tapas of grilled octopus was ok, chewy and no seasoning. Empanadas were excellent. Escargot was tender but flavorless. Ordered the Cameron’s Rellenos, once again, no seasoning and really no flavor. Mariscada Marinara also flavorless and lacking seasoning. Disappointed.
Will give it another try, as I have read very good reviews. Hoping it was just an off night.
I HAD A VERY BAD SERVER - EVERYTHING THAT WE ASK DIDN'T HAPPENS THE WAY WE WANTED
ON TOP I MADE THIS RESERVATION WELL AHEAD TO CELEBRATE MY BIRTHDAY AND I WAS DISAPPOINTED ALSO TOO....
We had a very enjoyable time.
Food was delicious and we were not rushed at all.
The ambience especially going in is really nice and very creative with the wine bottle chandeliers and other decors. The food was good and decent serving but not much with the appetizer. But the service was slow. It took over an hour and I ordered the black paella only to find out maybe after 15 mins that they run out of it.
Very limited selection of tapas - And poorly done. Not the greatest ingredients, many things stale or old, appearance of the dishes is completely unappealing. Cheap stuff st NYC level prices. Not recommended.
Was very surprised at 9 pm there was family with 4 young kids and they were loud and running around the parents had no control destroyed the dinner
The ambiance of the restaurant was extremely detailed and incredible. I felt as though I was in Spain. Food and drink were exceptional and authentic. The waiters were extremely patient and let us enjoy our dinner and ensured us we would not be rushed. Highly recommended!!
The skirt steak was delicious as always. And your waitress was extremely attentive.
The restaurant is very nicely decorated inside, and the food was very good.
Food was good. All of the tapas we ate were great, the dinner entree wasn't that great to be honest (stuffed chicken). The kitchen seemed to be backed up as it took some time to get out one of the appetizers (was cold) and the entree was delayed as well, likely because it was a Saturday night. Would go back and would recommend to others, I'd just mix together a bunch of tapas and eat as dinner!
Our family of 5 enjoyed a delicious and very large pitcher of white Sangria. The filet mignon was a large extremely tender cut, cooked to perfection wrapped in bacon with a mushroom sauce! The Red Snapper was large and well seasoned and delicious. We sat down at 6:30 on a Saturday night and left at 9:00. There was no rush and the waiters were attentive and very pleasant.
Friends we invited loved it. We travel 50mi to get there
Seafood was not fresh at all. Mussels smelled so bad and I had to spit it out.
Eight of us ordered something different and we were all very happy with the result. The wait staff is accommodating and attentive but never intrusive. We plan to return some evening for "Flamenco night." Should be fun.
Great tapas, sangria and service. Will be returning to try some of their main dishes.
Food was very good and reasonably priced. Service was attentive but rushed. This was unnecessary as our table was clearly not needed
Lacking ambience and too much lighting. Foods great, servers need to smile more, very dry service.
Consistent in quality and food. Excellent and attentive service every time we have been here. We have dined on tapas only and full meals and have never been disappointed.
Very yummy food. We had paella, escargot, skirt steak, surf and turf, porterhouse, calamari, chorizo, and pitchers of white sangria! everything was delicious and timed perfectly.
The food was salty. Service was good. Prices were high considering the salty food.
Sayola is amazing!! Gustavo, our waiter, was extremely attentive, knowledgeable, friendly & very helpful. The grilled octopus tapas & langostines were outstanding. Portions are very substantial & reasonable.
