My wife and I loved this place so much. I had been excited to go here for months after discovering them through the James Beard awards, and this place absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. We ordered a little less than half of the menu, and every single dish was great in its own way. Can't wait to come back!
We love sawyer! Amazing food and drinks! Highly recommended! We will be back
Recently moved to the Seattle area, and have had so-so dining experiences in Ballard. Sawyer will be in regular rotation.
Loved Avery. He made our visit fun and memorable!
Restaurant week and had one of the best meals in a long time- so goooood!
Great food! Wonderful experience for seattle restaurant week! :)
I found my experience at Sawyer to be extremely disappointing. I am a long-time Ballard residents who is really into good food and wanted to try it after reading positive reviews about the food. The food was decent but not amazing. First, of all I thought the venue to be so cold and uninviting - it is a cavernous space that is not used well and conveys a coldness. When we were seated, we had terrible service - no one checked in with us for a long time - and after that, it wasn't clear who was our waiter - we had four different people bring in food to us (and it took a long time for it to come when there weren't that many people). A couple of the servers were totally off too - as cold as the space. I really would not recommend this place and will not be trying it again.
Probably one of my new favorite restaurants in Seattle. Amazing atmosphere, considerate staff, and delicious food!
Cons: No parking, had a reservation and still had to wait, desert was clearly pre-made and refrigerated (to be fair, I went there during restaurant week). Entrees were okay but not great.
Pros: Appetizers were very good. Drinks were great (and not a bad price). I would go back for drinks and apps but definitely wouldn't drive.
The first course of Dungeness Crab Scallion Pancake could've been a meal itself! Fantastic flavor combinations, and a fun wine list.
The pork buns were delicious! Some of the best I've ever had. We'll definitely go back soon.
I really enjoyed the pork bun sandwiches and the animal style burger. The food sounds casual but it was dressed up well and presented with style. The scallops were impressive and satisfying for seafood lovers. The waitress was nice enough to have my cocktail remade when I didn’t really love it.
I went for restaurant week and had a lovely experience — will be
Our waitress was amazing!
We loved our special anniversary dinner at Sawyer! Our server was extremely knowledgeable and gave us excellent recommendations. He was friendly and really made the experience memorable. All of the food was delicious. The only negative is that it was a little bit drafty.
Great experience and had an enjoyable time. It was our date night so we were happy to try something new. Food wise - the blackened fish needed seasoning. The pickled onions were great - if there were more of those in the dish then you could definitely get away with the lack of seasoning. The crab pancake and apple and beet salad were fabulous.. I'd pair those together - definitely more bang for your buck. For the peanut butter cheesecake - definitely say that there are pieces of peanut butter. I would have loved to have eaten this - no PB allergy but not knowing this upfront makes all the difference. Overall we'd come back.
Wonderful experience dining at Sawyer, and we look forward to enjoying many more memorable evenings there.
Great ambience in a really cool space, the Menu is modern and had great options.
Wonderful food. Great historic building. Fabulous service. I will be back.
LOVE the pork belly tacos. Have to have them every time
Good experience - food was good but more choice would have been good
Amazing food, great ambiance and decor, perfect service. Cannot wait to return to Sawyer! Food is a reimagining of classic meals and flavors, so even picky eaters will find something to enjoy here.
Amazing, delicious, fun! We have tried both dinner and brunch and everything is absolutely wonderful. Highly recommended!
Everything was great, from service to food. It’s a great place to go if you like to share dishes. We did have a reservation and still had a wait for our table.
Ordered 4 courses and shared with a friend. Everything was delicious.
the “platter sized” dishes were small and expensive
Unique food that gives one a chance to try a little of everything. I have been there twice now and the food was amazing each time. Hard to try new things as I really like what I've already had. How do I choose what to eat? On the plus side, I know whatever I get will be amazing.
The lighting in the kitchen is bright and jarring, it definitely has a negative affect on the ambiance. The restaurant itself is very stylish and even elegant. But the contrast of the fluorescent lighting emanating from the kitchen doesn’t look right.
I had such high expectations, all of our Seattle restaurants had fabulous food and fabulous service. However, Sawyer was a huge disappointment on the service front. The bartender barked at me to move when we were getting seats at the bar and then angrily wiped the counter in front of us. It was so aggressive that we walked away without ordering a drink. I mentioned the issue to the hostess and she reassured us that our server would take care of us and that she’s super sweet. She ended up being one of those quiet servers with a weak smile and minimal eye contact, no intro to the menu, passable but not the friendly welcoming experience that you’d expect from such a highly-rated restaurant. Food was good but didn’t come close to making up for the horrible service experience. Take our advice and pass on this one.
Tasty brunch in a beautiful setting. Get the skillet monkey bread! You won't regret it.
Sawyer was amazing. We absolutely loved the food and will certainly go back.
Great food accompanied by knowledgeable great service!!
Sawyer was perfect for a late birthday dinner date!
Wonderful experience as always ! Food was delicious and our waitress was outstanding , she even remembered us which is always a nice thing!
Polished, excellent service with innovative menu and crowd-pleasing array of choices (would be comfortable bringing friends and family with diverse dietary preferences).
Three items should always be ordered! Pork belly steam buns, wood-fired artichokes and the porchetta. Anything pork based has been delish. The cocktail menu is creative and the traditional gin martini is generous and perfect. Service is excellent. The patio seating is slightly snug, and if you get sat next to a rambunctious table, it can be a little loud. This was my fourth visit and remains a favorite date night or out of town guest treat.
Sawyer is my favorite restaurant in Seattle. Every dish that comes out tastes fantastic and is beautifully presented. Awesome service. I love this place and can’t wait to take friends.
Food and service were rushed... in and out in 60 minutes? Felt the experience was to get guests fed and out fast! Not what we expected and far from a relaxed restaurant experiences.
Our server was fantastic in answering all our questions and helping my indecisive self choose what to order. We wanted to eat everything on the menu. Every dish we ordered was over the top delicious and had so much flavor. I want to go back and order the rest of the menu.
