Saturday brunch near the windows (closed against the winter cold) can be very loud, but the staff was VERY accommodating and moved our party of five to the beautiful back patio for my mother's birthday. Very gracious service for honestly quite needy and annoying customers (us). Considering two of our party were late about 40 minutes (LA Traffic!), I'd say they did quite a wonderful job.
What a wonderful place! Cozy atmosphere, cool vibe and comforting and delicious food! Highly reco the milk & cookies at the end!
Fantastic food, ambiance and service. the food was incredible and pricing was great for its value. Highly recommended
Kimberly was an attentive and friendly server. Loved her! My only complaint was that it was cold and raining out and the fans were turned on pretty high making the dining room extra cold. Was a little uncomfortable but still had a wonderful time.
This would be an A+ if only it weren't so loud. We had trouble talking with our friends. But we all agreed the food and service were excellent, and love the fact that they take reservations for brunch.
My biggest concern with Sawyer was the fact that I requested an outdoor patio reservation for my birthday brunch with friends. This was going to be my first time visiting. Friends who have visited Sawyer told me that you can only get patio seating if you have a reservation. I made sure to write that in my reservation and that it was for my birthday. When we showed up at the restaurant, which was 30 minutes earlier than our reservation time, they stated that they are no longer seating people in the patio. They would not even give us an option to wait for patio seating although we came 30 minutes in advance.
Another thing that was a pretty big concern was the fact that my friend found a long dark colored piece of hair in her quinoa bowl. It was really long and we watched her pull it out of her dish, while wondering, "When does this piece of hair end?" My friend already ate about 1/4 of her dish at this point. Sawyer was nice to comp that meal and packed her a newly cooked dish to go for her. In addition, they gave us a peanut butter-like cheesecake on the house.
Although they made up the mistakes with the food, it was already a burn to the fact that we did not get an option to sit at the patio despite me writing it in our reservation and coming 30 minutes in advance for my birthday.
Aside from that, the indoor seating area was pretty and spacious and nice. They were attentive with cleaning plates off our table. The food options had your share of healthy and unhealthy (but delicious) options. The fried chicken biscuit sandwich was pretty decent and the biscuit was buttery. I enjoyed the cured salmon with sweet potato cake as well; it had a Mediterranean taste to it.
Had such a lovely time with my mom on her visit. Thanks to our server Ross for a wonderful night!
All good, except for the whitefish spread, which was, in a word, awful. I don't know what they put in it but it was inedible.
We’ve periodically walked by Sawyer and always been enticed to go in, but unfortunately the insides did not match its aesthetically pleasing appeal. We made reservations for a birthday dinner and we were very excited to see what Sawyer had to offer. At several points in the first hour the waiter came by to advise us that there was a delay due to a large party outside (keep in mind two of the orders were just salad). The clam chowder we received was served in an oversized bowl and had more scallions than soup, which was not memorable at all. After the first hour and ten minutes one of the staff came over and apologized and said the food was coming out a minute behind him. 18 minutes later the food finally arrived. Strangely enough the salmon was cold, and even the hush puppies he brought over as an apology tasted like they had been sitting there as well. It was difficult not to notice the people next to us, who came after us, were served without delay and even the couple who came while we were waiting received their dishes in a timely manner. Although the salmon was taken off — overall the experience was not what we expected and wouldn’t be a place we’d recommend.
My friend and I had been wanting to try this for some time. We both thought the food was good. We both had the market fish. The cocktails we fantastic. Whatever I had had cucumber & apples in it. It was loud but quaint.
Have been to Sawyer twice now and it’s been fantastic both times. Nice variety, great cocktails, excellent portions, and a Fried Chicken Biscuit at brunch to write home about.
Outstanding as always! The staff was attentive and courteous and the food was of the highest quality; as always. A neighborhood favorite!
Place is super cute with outdoor seating. I came for brunch and food was great. I came for a small birthday brunch (mine) and my friend told our server so at the end they brought dessert with a mini candle. Very cute and thoughtful until the bill came. They had charged me extra for the dessert haha! Guess a bday dessert at this location isn’t free. For anyone doing a small outing with friends I would then suggest bringing their own cupcakes then since they charge for a bday dessert.
Outside a lovely quiet space
Restaurant was EXTREMELY loud. Could not even hold a conversation. Server disappeared towards the end of our meal and forgot to bring out one of our dishes.
Great atmosphere- amazing food & drinks - awesome service
The food was inedible and/or mediocre. Out of 6 dishes, only 1 was tasty. The restaurant is beautiful, ambience great, service good.
Not worth the effort - the hostesses are bad. The food is average.
Everyone is frendly and helpful. The food is delicious especially the avocado toast.
This is a neighborhood restaurant and i have taken friends from all parts of the city. They have all returned as they enjoyed it so much.
Had a great time at brunch! Food is beautifully presented and delicious. Highly recommend the bacon and avocado toast.
We decided to book the 1:30pm reservation that was available even though that was already a bit late for us. We got there on time and ended up having to wait 30 MINUTES TO BE SEATED!
Also reserved for the outdoor courtyard space and they had a shower or somthing out there so we didn’t get to sit outside either.
Food was delicious, but we were very hungry and frustrated.
Food was great! Hush puppies were a hit with our large party. They seated us right away and were very accommodating.
Wish they had more vegan options, but at least they had one! It was delicious. Unique and tasty cocktail menu! Great ambience and aesthetic.
Love this place
Always yummy and amazing! My neighborhood spot!
Birthday dinner. Great food. Candle with our dessert. Perfect night!
Beautiful restaurant and the freshest seafood. Love it!
Slow, very very slow service, oysters were very average. Drinks were the best part.
Great food, wine and service
TERRIBLE. Not going back. Because of the rain, my reservation for a party of 2 was not honored (because I had selected outdoor seating - and indoor seating was not an option.) There were at least 4 open tables inside the restaurant. I was told we would have to wait at least 30 minutes, and to sit at the bar. There was not even room for an additional chair to seat someone at the bar, so 2 minutes later we were told we could be seated at a hightop table. We were literally SHOVED in 11 inches of space between two parties, could not hear each other, and sat like that for over 10 minutes before the server even realized we were there and brought us water. At this point we decided to leave, and all of a sudden, when we expressed that we would be going elsewhere, we were offered to sit at one of the 4 open tables that just 13 minutes ago were not available for 30+ minutes. -_- We still left. There was no reason to be thrown around like that. I know it doesn't rain in LA often, but it's not an impossibility. A restaurant needs to know how to handle that without devolving into chaos that makes patrons feel unwelcome and like an inconvenience.
patio area so lovely. food, service, vibe were all so satisfying!
My new favorite place!
When I made the reservation on open table I picked outdoor seating only to be told that the patio closes between certain hours. So that was a bummer. Also, I didn’t realize when I made the res that they go to a limited menu midday (though the options were still great, just a small selection). Another thing was that when we ordered, some of the items didn’t state they came with fries so we ordered fries to start and then all of our entrees came with fries (I felt like the server should have mentioned that??) anyway, I said something and eventually they took them off the bill but we would have loved to order side salads and kept the side of fries. That being said, I love Sawyer. Just beware of what time you go. Because the full menu and patio seating kind of make Sawyer what it is.
Wonderful server, great great vibe! FOOD WAS AMAZING!
The experience at sawyer was amazing. I tried out their Happy Hour Menu. Definitely worth trying. I would come
Back to their spot.
As the guys sitting next to us said “food’s good but the staff are zombies”
We finished our mains and then were given the check.
We didn’t get offered coffee or dessert. Really rude.
Food was good but nothing amazing.
So overrated. Adorable restaurant. Rest falls flat. Better food could be made at home. Our waitress also messed up about 75% of order “forgetting we ordered things” missed substitutions etc
This place is awesome. Food is good and so are the cocktails. I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a chill and lively spot to have brunch with family and friends.
2nd time at Sawyer. The food and service have taken quite a fall. People waiting far too long to be seated, servers wondering about sipping down their drinks while chatting with other servers. Waited 30 minutes before being served. By then, the food was too cold and salty. Add to that, restaurant has no parking for brunch (valet only for dinner) so good luck trying to find a street spot. Overall, not worth a revisit.
