Sawatdee Thai Restaurant - Saint Paul
Serving award-winning Thai cuisine since 1983, Sawatdee is home to Thai food, a great daily happy hour and impeccable service.
When we first opened our doors at 1983, the Sawatdee mission was simple: to take our community on an adventure full of Thai flavors and good times. Many years later, that adventure is still as exciting as ever.
Sawatdee Saint Paul was the first Sawatdee which opened in 1983. Located in lowertown, it has been referred to as & the old Sawatdee" since it closed to make way for the new. With a new location on Robert Street in downtown Saint Paul, & the old Sawatdee & is now & the new Sawatdee; offering you a full menu of authentic Thai cuisine that we are famous for plus a full bar.

We've seen some so-so reviews, so we were hesitant, but the food was very good, as was the service. Have the spring rolls.
Fantastic food. Servers are stretched, but accurate orders about as good as it gets given the times. Shame the back room is not open as that is such a nice venue for a quiet dinner. But we get it. Help is tight and there’s not a whole lot of people out eating. We seem to hit it at the busy time, and then it got quiet. Wonderful place.
Perhaps the best Thai food in the Twin Cities. Never disappoints. Always flavorful. Great appetizers and a nice selection of entrees.
Great food, the menu had a lot of options and price was resemble. Great place for couple or a group to dine.
Menu offered a lot of different options especially for vegetarians, which I appreciate. The food was delicious and the service excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant.
A surprisingly great place for a pre-game meal before a MN Wild game.
Food was excellent. I recommend the shrimp and scallops with vegetables.
Forgot how great Thai food can be-Sawatdee made it a great food evening and experieince!
Awesome food great service - try the jalapeño cream cheese wontons!
Delicious food with a lot of choices. Sat at a table outside.
The food was good. Only complaint was they was they out of crab meat (but took a few dollars off the item price since crab was not in there).
Our server in St. Paul was great for having the outside patio tables and inside tables.
Sawatdee restaurant, downtown St. Paul, is my home away from home. Delicious food, drinks...superb service. I'm in love with this place and its location. It brings a lot of life to downtown St. Paul and as far as I'm concerned is the very best place to eat in the City.
Don't worry--you can get your Thai food mild, medium or hot or any variation therearound.
Absolutely first class.
My daughter wanted Thai food before heading off to college and this was just what she wanted. Nothing complicated or fussy. The menu was extensive and the food tasted very fresh. It was a short walk from the hotel which also made it the perfect option. Service was friendly, fast and overall excellent.
The fisherman's delight was a disappointment from the value standpoint. This is priced at the high end for a Asian entree and consists of a cup of cooked rice, about a cup and a half of carrots, broccoli and cauliflower and about 5 medium sized shrimp, 4 or 5 pieces of squid and about 4 medium sized scallops. It was not a lot of food for the price. The sauce was good and everything was well prepared. I just feel that a $25 entree should be a bit more generous on the seafood and rice.
Great food and great service
Our servers were friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious!
We can always count on yummy food here! The fresh spring rolls are a favorite. Fresh bright flavors in all of the dishes we have tried. Highly recommend.
My cashew chicken was terrible. Tasted like I was eating rubber bands. Egg rolls were incredible
Great food, quick service. Perfect spot to grab Thai in downtown for lunch or dinner!
Casual atmosphere and MN Thai staple. The pad Thai was AH-mazing.
Great food. The duck is wonderful. "Mild" spice heat is very, very mild - at least the evening we were there it was. We enjoyed it and will be back.
Service was good. Food is also good but can be better. When I think of Thai food, I think of hot, basil-like, spicy food rather than less spicy and sweet food. Too much sweet in the food I ordered and I'm not much of a sweet food person.
Delicious food with outstanding wait staff!!
It was an amazing experience. I would definitely come back. I love the interior of the place.
Happy hour is fantastic! Nice server, everyone was spaced out nicely
Yum, yum, and extra yum - great food and just so nice to get back out and dine in at a favorite place.
Amazing food everytime we've been there! Our favorite Thai restaurant in MSP.
Typically really like their food — it was very average this time. Not very flavorful.
Delicious pad Thai! They offer a happy hour special that we took advantage of. Service was very good.
Service was best part - seemed like they wanted to get us in and outside
Great food, great service! Highly recommend! Nice location in St. Paul with easy parking.
Sawatdee St Paul serves delicious, fresh, flavorful food consistently. Due to Covid-19, the dining experience is more utilitarian than warm &cozy. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful, and stopped to check on us a few times during our meal. It is a good place to go for Thai food when you're in downtown StPaul.
Great server! Very friendly. Food was delicious.
Extremely slow service, disappointed
The food was wonderful! Kaitlin, our server was outstanding! She was friendly, funny, personable and made some great recommendations!
I was looking forward to going here for years ! Kinda birthday - one day after. Inside I did not want to sit so we sat outside. Many sirens (police) - not threatening but loud. No beer on tap....lines dirty ! Very average food but our waiter was great. Much much prefer Pad Thai (near Hamline) !
Service was incredible!
We went here to celebrate my sons birthday.
It was a disappointment.
They did not have record of our Open Table reservation. No problem because we were the only people there at 7:00 Sat.
The server was very friendly. That was the highlight of the evening.
They were out of the signature Tin Whiskers brew .
The one cocktail we ordered just tasted like fruit juice.
The egg rolls were not the usual crispy thin Thai egg rolls we are used to ( at Supatra and Thai Garden)
There was a long wait for food even though we were the only customers.
My seafood combo ( $24) was too spicy and the seafood was not good. There was a hidden shell that cut the back of my throat. I ordered Medium but it was much hotter than the medium fishes ordered by my companions. The 2 scallops were good. The veggies were last prime and dry.
My companions food was OK. Beef was tough but Massaman chicken curry was good.
Many years ago we frequented the Sawatdee in Lowertown . This is not the same.
Great service by Dyami, he was most helpful and kind to everyone in my party! Food was prepared as advertised on the menu, and everything was tasty!
