Serving award-winning Thai cuisine since 1983, Sawatdee is home to Thai food, party spaces, a great happy hour, live music, and impeccable service.

When we first opened our doors at 1983, the Sawatdee mission was simple: to take our community on an adventure full of Thai flavors and good times. Many years later, that adventure is still as exciting as ever. Not only we expanded with more restaurants to share our flavors with more folks, we've added to to the flavors we offer, as well!

Our Minneapolis location is a beautiful warehouse-turned-restaurant, complete with a gold leaf ceiling and glass etchings of a Thai goddess. Specialties include Rama Thai Delight, Pad Thai, and a Tail of Two Cities.

Living off its reputation. You can do much better elsewhere in the Cities. Pad Thai noodles overcooked, the duck was tasteless even at medium spice.

We had a reservation and once we sat not one person said hello or brought us anything for over 25 minutes. We would have left but it was before an event so we knew we couldn’t get anything else nearby. We were sat at 5:50 and didn’t get out of the restaurant until almost 7:30, which when getting Thai food is ridiculous. We just ordered pad thai, spring rolls & mango rice. The food was meh, not what I remember pre-Covid. The server we had was moving at a turtle pace and the other couple servers were running around. Maybe the experience would’ve been better w a different server, but that wouldn’t have changed the food. And we missed the opener of the show which we were excited to see. Don’t think we will be back.

Sawatdee has an extensive menu of Thai dishes. Our group had curries and pad thai. The curries, especially panang curry, were more loaded with vegetables than has been typical for us at other Thai restaurants in the Twin Cities and elsewhere, including in Thailand. Their spiciness was as ordered. Pad thai was requested as spicy #5, but was not spicy at all. The wait staff worked hard to avoid our table as much as possible to address this and lesser issues. A balky food delivery robot detracted from our and other diners' experience. The dining space is quite large. Better Thai is available elsewhere in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

Food was bland and server was inattentive. Perhaps the worst restaurant meal we have had since before the pandemic. Thai food should not be flavorless and a request for “spicy” should have inspired, at least, a little heat.

Service was a little disjointed and somewhat slow, but they seemed to be fairly understaffed. Our server was also making drinks at the bar. Food was bland. I had Pad Thai with chicken. I asked for a level 4 out of 5 spice, got 0 level. Kept having to add more chili oil and dried spice to it. Also, seemed to be missing ingredients, no eggs in the Pad Thai at all. Happy hour specials were decent, and the cream cheese wontons were good. Sue's egg rolls were also bland and had way too much cabbage. Over all, experience was ok, but I most likely would not come here again.

Still great Pad Thai! Even after all these years. The front-of-the-house staff was zooming around to a full restaurant shortly before a Vikings game, but once we placed our order, it arrive via a live person -- not the robot. Kudos to a great staff. The vegetarian eggrolls were good (despite having some too-coarse cabbage chunks), the drinks were good (and quick).

Chicken pad Thai was average. Spring rolls delicious. Service was good considering we were there just before a Viking game and most tables were full. Had reservations for 6 and were wet in and out in 70 minutes. Decent but nothing spectacular.

First visit to Sawatdee, and everyone in our group of 3 was happy with our food. However, despite signage regarding supporting social distancing prominently displayed in the lobby and masking being recommended for both vaccinated and unvaccinated, only some of the staff wore masks and a table of 4 were seated right next to our table, putting unmasked strangers within 2-3 feet of us. I am currently going through chemotherapy but thought this would be a safe place for the rare dinner out (we were downtown to buy a Christmas tree and wanted to make an evening of it). Meanwhile, entire sections of the restaurant sat empty. It was clear that seating was determined for maximum convenience of the wait staff (fewer steps) rather than the safety of the diners. Disappointing doublespeak.

We went to sawatdee before a show at the Guthrie, and the place was very clean and looked nice. We ordered two of the curry dishes, the chicken satay and the egg rolls for the table and everything was absolutely delicious. The portions are fairly large and I don't think I've been that excited for leftovers in a while. They had a good selection of wine, and even a hard cider for myself. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for some very flavorful food and a laid-back atmosphere.

This was, without question, the worst dining experience I (or anyone else in our party) have ever had. While I recognize the fact that we were dining on the evening of the Rolling Stones concert in downtown Minneapolis, we made a 6:00 reservation 2 weeks ahead of the concert, arrived on time, and had to chase someone down to even get seated. Once seated, we were ignored for more than 15 minutes before we asked politely for printed menus (and got an extremely annoyed reaction from the server). It was at least another 15 minutes before we waved down our server again and asked if we could order (note we still did not even have water, now 30 minutes in). After placing our orders, NOTHING happened for another 30 MINUTES until I finally walked up to the bar, found our server, and asked where our drinks were. So it took MORE THAN AN HOUR to get water and an order of drinks delivered to our table. About 15 minutes later, our appetizer and entrees showed up almost simultaneously. The food was not only cold, but it was awful. My Pad Thai was flavorless and bland (even though I ordered it spicy), my wife's entree was almost inedibly salty. This was, bar none the worst experience we've ever had in a restaurant, and the first time in my life I've left $0 tip. I do understand it was a busy night for them. But they were so horribly overmatched, that the restaurant could not even function. This is the management's fault - if you can't serve so many patrons, DON'T LET THEM IN THE DOOR. And don't screw your customers who go out of their way to make a reservation by allowing far more walk-ins than you are able to serve into your restaurant. We will NEVER return, and recommend that you don't either.

We understand when there is an event (there was concert and they are near the stadium) and things can get crazy for restaurants, but this was ridiculous. It was clear there wasn’t enough staff to accommodate the crowd. We had reservations and the person at the desk was too frazzled to check us in when we arrived. Why not just limit guests and save yourself some pain, give the servers a break? Our server was lovely, she was running like mad to help everyone. By the time my food came out an hour later, I lost my appetite from all of the frenzy.

Two of our party of 4 said their entrees were not spicy enough (and one had even asked for 5-level spiciness). Our server seemed less than less than friendly even though everyone in our party was friendly, polite, and well-mannered towards him. Oh, well. Otherwise it was a rare treat for us to eat out and feel a part of society!

We not been here since COVID and Guthrie closing. The entrance is a smart improvement. Most patrons and some staff were not masked. The service was slower than the past so we barely made it to the Guthrie in time for the extensive line there. We'll be back.

We were in the city for a quick overnight and a friend recommended Sawstdee. Our waitress was outstanding - helping us with our selections and checking on us frequently, always with a smile. The food was the best Thai we’d ever had and the desert was fabulous (sticky rice and mango). We had the fresh shrimp spring rolls and mushroom and shrimp stir fry—delicious!!

This was the first time we had dinner in downtown Minneapolis in a long time and it was definitely a great meal at Sawatdee! We had the fabulous Sue's Eggrolls for appetizers. My husband and I shared Pad Thai with chicken and our college aged grandson had Pad Thai with Asian noodles. Both meals were delicious and we even had leftovers to enjoy later. I had made a reservation but the restaurant had very few customers and was very good about keeping social distance between tables and our waiter wore a face mask.

The outdoor space is simply a few tables along the sidewalk. That said it was a lovely night. The food is always wonderful and fairly priced. The staff and service were both prompt and very kind. A great experience.
