Savory Cafe & Provisions
This is an excellent restaurant and I would recommend it for the food quality and options.
My only recommendation would be to dim the lights. The food and service were fantastic
Hadn't been to Savory in awhile and friends had never been so we met there one night for dinner. Three of us had Beef Bourgogne and one had the filet. The Bourgogne was average; the filet was very good. Service was spotty and the waiter seemed confused at times. Overall a "won't come back again for a long while" evening. Pricy.
We frequently dined in the previous restaurant at this location and were delighted to learn that the quality and standards have been maintained or exceeded by the replacement. Our server was congenial and very helpful with menu selections. The red pea soup was tasty and unique. Our entrees - lamb osso bucco and filet with peppercorn sauce - were excellent. Same with the desserts - chocolate mousse and rice pudding with green tomato jam. Table settings and utensils were classy, without being pretentious. We'll be back.
Three of us had the mussel entire. They tasted bland, and seemed to have been previously prepared , refrigerated and then reheated.
The restaurant was ok but nothing special for the prices. Service was fine; food was ok.
Mussels are my 'go to' whenever I find them on the menu. Very good!
What a joy to rediscover a gem. Formerly Claude and Zulu’s, and resurrected as Savory Cafe & Provision, this space has oodles of charm, cozy, intimate with no pretentious air. The staff want s you to enjoy the food and tries hard t please. The food, in all its splendor, does the heavy lifting. It’s superb. A yummy soup, a succulent salmon, and jasmine rice pudding served in vintage Mason jars. You wanted to linger, not leave. It was so good. With the trip simply off island!!
Had the early dining menu. My wife had the beef bourginon (sp?) and I had the schnitzel. Both were excellent. Very attentive and pleasant service.
Everything was excellent. Early dining can get a little expensive unless you stay with the items not requiring an up charge. It was worth the up charge though!
One of our best dinners yet at Savory! Started with a lovely scallop soufflé hiding a yummy ouster, great presentation, followed by an excellent grilled snapper. My husband chose his favorite, onion soup, which he says they do very well, and the chicken cordon bleu, another of his faves. Our server, John, was excellent, as always. We love the vibe here, casual elegance, but very neighborhood friendly. See you again soon, Savory!
Authentic French cuisine. Well prepared and presented.
Absolutely wonderful. John was so attentive and food perfect.
I was excited to surprise my wife with a Valentine’s Day dinner and made a reservation for 7:30 and arrived at 7:25. We were seated immediately and looked over the prix fixed menu which sounded great! Unfortunately we would never get to experience what it could have been. No one came to our table for over 15 minutes. Several staff members walked by but not one said anything to us. After waiting for over 15 minutes and seeing another table get sat and greeted immediately, we decided to leave and just go to my wife’s job (she is a restaurant manager and office manager at 2 local restaurants) and while the food there is fabulous, we were disappointed we were unable to try something new for a special occasion due to the fact that trying to get a reservation at 8pm on Valentines Day would be near impossible. I normally do not write public reviews but we have reached out to the restaurant directly and have yet to get a response.
Fantastic Valentines dinner complete with wine pairings. I had the lobster bisque, surf and turf, and vanilla soufflé. This Country French Restaurant is inviting, friendly, and has wonderful service with a menu that includes both American and French favorites, including the best-ever escargot.
Great food great service
French onion soup disappointing.Seasoning overpowered onion flavor. Bread on top thin and just soggy.
Flounder entree tasty with subtle lemon sauce. Lamb shanks average.Sauce masked lamb flavor.
French apple tart- crust tough and hard to cut with fork. Skimpy apple filling.
Very nice Ladies Luncheon.
Delicious food - highly recommend. We had brunch on Sunday and all four of our meals were delicious. We had the chicken Benedict, quiche, duck confit, fish and croissant with an oh m g house made jam.
We will definitely be back
We ate lunch at Savory and ordered the fish of the day and schnizel , both were excellent. Their sauce for both dishes were superb. Service was prompt and courteous, food delicious. We will definitely return.
Delicious! From our appetizers to our sinful desserts!
We will definitely be back for many more visits!:)
Pleasant lunch for four. Ambience and desert soufflé. I had the mussels which weren’t as good as I expected. The others were very satisfied.
The food is always great and fresh at Savory Cafe. Amanda is so personable and attentive. The new decor is updated and looks good. One of my favorite places.
Food was poor to average. Menu very nice, just could not execute. We had 2 appetizers and 2entrees. Very disappointing. Service was good. Space is nice.
Savory is very welcoming from the moment you enter to the time you leave. Chef was accommodating with allergies and vegan preferences. Everything well prepared and presented. Server was friendly, knowlegeable and attentive. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting an enjoyable evening of dining.
Tried Savory Cafe Jan 5 and it was wonderful. I had escargot, onion soup, and a filet au poivre. Husband had a caesar salad, onion soup, and schnitzel.
My escargot were the best I’ve had around here. Delicious! Filet was terrific too! Honestly speaking, soup was a bit thin; not the rich, deep taste I was hoping for but still really good.. my only suggestion is $34 is a bit steep for a 6-7 oz filet. Husband enjoyed his meal completely and service was fantastic! John and Finney were great! We’ll be back for sure!
The food was excellent - I chose the seafood special with brocallini - and priced well. Bartender, staff friendly and not over-bearing. My only disappointment (and yours also!) was that the restaurant was practically empty...patrons and the hustle and bustle of activity adds to the atmosphere. I plan to return...the day I was there (1st Friday after New Year) is probably the reason for so few patrons. Hope there is more activity at my next visit. Good luck!
Loved having a private room with one round table for six. Just what we wanted.
The food was very good prices were moderately High and the dining experience was well quite medium it is not a restaurant that would Wow you with it's decor and amenities..It's In need of more panache
My husband and I went to Savory for an early New Years Eve dinner, and overall it was fine. The service is always excellent and this was no exception -- attentive but not hovering, friendly and knowledgable. I chose the price fixe menu, and started with a heavenly chilled salmon dish that I would order again. Normally I order fish here and am always happy, but for some reason I chose the veal chop, which was okay but nothing special. My advice is to order seafood here if you like seafood. You won't be disappointed. The Black Forest type dessert tasted as though it had just come out of the freezer. Pretty ordinary. My husband had French onion soup and chicken cordon bleu, two of his Savory faves, and he was very happy with his meal. I think my lower rating is more about my choices than the kitchen, actually, so it won't affect our returning to one of our better local restaurants.
Excellent in all respects
We had been fans of the prior restaurant, Claude & Uli's, at this location before Claude retired. So, while we didn't know exactly what to expect, we wanted to give the new chef/owners a try. We're so glad we did! Many of the past favorite menu items were still on the menu, along with some new and creative ones. And many of the staff are still there, creating the same ambiance and good service we've always known there. We were thrilled that the changes that have been made have all given the restaurant a fresh start as Savory Café. We had the beef Wellington and the pork schnitzel for our entrees, and they were both prepared perfectly. The Grand Marnier soufflé is to die for....and my husband's double chocolate mousse was excellent (I know, I tried some....).
A definite win!
Food was so-so, yet quite expensive, so not a great value.
Food was just ok. We do appreciate they were open on chriatmas
Food was good. Oysters were outstanding. Desserts so-so. Server was amiable, maybe new to fine dining. Chairs are horribly uncomfortable. Overall, we would return.
Wonderful meal and excellent hospitality! They went out of their way to take care of me and my family (6 total), including two vegetarians. We all left happy and well fed!
Very good waiter (John)! Unfortunately the Pork Schnitzel was chewy rather than moist and tender. Also I would have liked a starch alongside the tasty roasted vegetables. I plant to come back and try another entree.
My party and I did the Sunset menu it is a good value and the food was wonderful. My only complaint would be the chairs! The place has not had a good makeover since the last owners. It seems dated and a bit seedy.. The service and food help keep your mind off the uncomfortable chairs, ...
Found my food too salty & not too much taste other than that. Lots of other places I'd rather go.
