I arrived at 5:30 pm and didn’t get my entree until after 8:30 pm. That is way too long to wait for a dinner.
Great place. Great food and ambiance. Just be aware if it’s a day they are doing live music, it will be loud.

I greatly enjoyed this restaurant, as I was specifically looking for a Haitian restaurant to go to, and it was a very nostalgic experience. Having said that I still had some issues, some of the dishes where not a 100% Haitian, such as the “marinade& empanadas “. They were good but not the Haitian version. Also the entree portions were too small for the prices in my opinion. I greatly appreciate the service and friendliness of the staff who interacted with us. Overall, I would go again and if anyone is looking for Haitian restaurant and wants some great food, you can’t go wrong.
Our party of five decided to try Saveur Creole in Montclair. We tried to call several times to notify the restaurant we would be a couple minutes late for our reserved table. No one at the restaurant picked up the phone so naturally we were under the impression the restaurant would still honor our reservation. We arrive at the restaurant and walking through the main entrance there is no podium or any hostess to greet you. The podium is far away from the door. After standing and looking around, the owner finally approached me with a face mask only over his mouth and I told him we had a reservation at 1 pm. He didn’t greet us, no COVID protocols put in place (distanced tables, hand sanitizer, temperature checks) didn’t say Happy Mother’s Day, didn’t say welcome; he looked at his watch and said us arriving late puts him behind. He walked us to our table and never said our server will be with us shortly. A server didn’t arrive with our menus until 30 minutes later; it was actually the bus girl that asked us if we were still waiting for menus, we didn’t have a server take our order until 50 minutes after being seated and the server was not knowledgeable about the menu. Our food came to the table 1 hour 50 minutes from being seated. The food tasted great. The service was chaotic, not maintained & slow. I feel the owner lacks organization, lacks making accommodations as we over heard him tell another couple they could not provide a chair for their son & overall lacks a welcoming feeling. The environment itself felt very chaotic. The owner is in the business of making money and should hire for the needed roles in the restaurant, for example a hostess, servers who speak creole, etc & coordinate extra staffing for holidays where customers are looking for a great dining experience. Should we ever decide to visit again, i hope changes have been implemented.
We had a great experience. The staff was very welcoming and made us feel at home. The atmosphere has very festive with music in the background. The food was delicious. We will be back.
