I came with a large group for brunch, making a reservation weeks in advance. Our table was ready right away, and we were seated immediately.
Our waitress was beyond amazing, super informative about the menu and answered various questions thrown her way. Our entire meal was smooth and just right!
Can’t wait to come back for dinner!
good food, but very loud and dark. we couldn' t really see or hear anything. Ok for meeting a friend quick but not good for a larger party especially if parents are involved or people who can't hear well. service and food were good.
Very loud and background music was as if in a club atmosphere. Tables for 2 were too small and too close together. Food was just OK and was brought out too quickly. We had not finished the appetizer and the entree arrived.
Great ambiance - music was really fun and kept a high energy vibe which was needed for a heavy pasta dinner. Food was incredible! We each ordered something different and each of our choices got a two thumbs up!
Good setting, very normal food
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and good food!
We had the meatballs as an appetizer, would give a 9/10!
Chicken Milanese was really good for the NYC price of $21
it was a good moment, the plates are very good (pizzas and burratas). I recommend.
Every sauce and course delicious! A good time was had as all enjoyed the food and atmosphere.
This is the kind of neighborhood place I love - great food, excellent prices, not a "scene" but lively and fun! I am a vegetarian and my partner is not, it is hard to find places that work for both of us, here I had several options and the kitchen is pretty flexible about working with the customer - very much appreciated! I had a pasta with lemon and butter, he had Chicken parm, both were very good with nice sized portions. The only thing we did not enjoy was the garlic bread which was super salty - due to the cheese it had baked on top - very little garlic flavor, too much salt. Will def. return!
Fun place, good location and excellent food. It is noisy and crowded so not a good place for deep conversation. Wine and beer is good...mixed drinks are weak. Definitely worth a trip.
Great little spot on the lower east side.
I had enjoyed an excellent arugula salad and some of the best spaghetti Bolognese I have ever tasted. The pasta noodles are homemade and perfectly cooked. The sauce is a masterpiece.
One of our favorites! Always have the same thing, start with garlic bread and funghi spaghetti for the entree. This time I added asparagus parmigiana, which was amazing. I won’t skip it next time. My husband says it is the best chicken parm in the city.
Brooke was our waitress and she was fantastic!
Great pizza! I really like the vibe of this place. Good food...but nothing really amazed me. Had the fried calamari and the gravy meatball pasta. It was pretty regular. Pizza was great, had the truffle mushroom.
Wonderful trip to Sauce with the whole family after Blue Man Group show! It was fun and festive, delicious food, great service. We were with my inlaws who can't hear very well in loud places so that is something to consider. Enjoy the ambiance--it's like being in your grandmother's kitchen, including a huge pot of gravy! We loved it.
Great food, great atmosphere.
We loved the food, had great service, but the music was not what we expected and it made us leave a little earlier than we would have.
i expected more. the grandmothers ragu was described by our waitress as the meal she'd want to eat every day. I disagree. I get it that it's a thinner sauce, I'm cool with a thinner Ragu - but there was barely any of it on the pasta - and none at the bottom of the bowl, just enough to barely coat the rigatoni. Maybe I'm particular, but i want sauce. I want to dip some bread in it - enjoy it. There was definitely no chance to do this. Meatballs in the sauce were good - truly. The sausage was OK - nothing special. was just a big bowl of rigatoni otherwise. wine list was super limited, and the only cheap red bottle ($44) was not good at all - otherwise its a $60+ bottle list with very few options (under 10 choices tops). Crazy loud in there - I don't mind a loud restaurant, but good luck if anyone in your group talks quietly. One waitress for 1/3 to 1/2 the restaurant. She was working crazy hard, but it was too much for her to keep up with - so service was slow. I'm not usually one to write bad reviews - we just expected a MUCH better experience than Sauce was able to deliver.
would not go back. There are just too many other good options within a short walk with WAY better food, better atmosphere, better wine/bar choices.
One of my favorite restaurants in NYC. I am a huge fan of sister restaurant Supper so I had high expectations for Sauce.
I am thrilled to report Sauce has exceeded my expectations.
Everything was super fresh and amazing. I had the kale gnocchi the sauce was incredible as was the polenta appetizer my husband and I split.
We will be back often.
we had a nice time overall, but the dishes were basic and not memorable. i don't think either of us actually finished our entrees. there are thousands of similar basic italian restaurants, so we'll try a different one next time.
We enjoyed our dinner there. Space is limited, so we were crammed in pretty tight, but the food is excellent, and the dish I had (Grandma's Homemade Gravy) reminded me of my own Italian Grandma's cooking. Good place for a low-key, yummy meal. It got very crowded, so make a reservation in advanced if you can.
Food and service were great! The restaurant was pretty loud but they were playing great music so it was ok. Can’t wait to come back!
The food is better than Meatball Shop, but the experience is not. I’ve been here a couple of times. The food is great. Everything is consistently fantastic. But the overall dining experience is a drag. The tables are tiny, wobbly and crammed together - even by NYC standards. I’d almost prefer if they just did a big communal table instead of their current layout. The service isn’t friendly. The hostess was not welcoming. The waiter for the party next to us kept standing in the tight space between tables placing his back pockets right in my face. I get space is at a premium but between your table being at butt-level and the cramped quarters, I was happier to leave than I was with my meal. I’d consider coming back but I’d make sure it was their off peak hours.
Very loud environment with very cramped seating. Food was ok with small portions.
Awesome food! But, tables are very small and way too close to other tables. Music is loud so you don’t hear your neighbors conversations, but this also makes it hard to hear your own conversations.
I've been coming here for years, it's def one of my favorite places in the city. Never ever disappoints!!
Excellent food but the tables are tiny. So if you want a little room/privacy request a window seat.
My 20 something girls loved it. A bit loud for the old folks, but food was good.
Went with my husband and a friend! Great atmosphere, food, and service. Loved and highly recommend!
We find ourselves returning to Sauce for a casual, satisfying Italian meal. Generous portions, plenty of options, and lots of red sauce & cheese. Calzone special was gooey and delicious, salads were good accompaniment. Chicken Milanese was topped with loads of leaves, chicken parm was just what you'd expect. We'll be back!
Whenever I get to New York, I never miss a chance to experience Grandmas food, Sunday Gravy, wow, Sauce is a favorite.
Food and service were excellent! Old school hip hop was cool, too!
Had a Gilt City voucher and had a great night! It was quite loud. The food was tasty I just wish the specials had been included in the offer.
I went to Sauce for Valentine's Day with my girlfriend. The reastaruant was WAY too loud and packed. We were barely able to hear each other the whole time. We had to move our table and the table we were at was broken. It didn't make our first Valentine's Day experience pleasant AT ALL.
Pre-Valentine Day dinner was great! Food was delicious and well priced. Service was very good.
This was my second time here and it was definitely better than the first time. The service was better, food was better, all around a much better experience. Our server had great recommendations, so we just went with whatever she suggested. Food was good, but I felt like all the pastas had the same tasting red sauces. Which was still yummy, but the menu didn’t have much variety. I would recommend the chicken parm and definitely the garlic bread! Great spot for a group brunch.
Seriously, this place is a joke. Kind of cute inside at least. BUT.. some meatsauce and polenta a bottle of wine and desserts and we were starving after spending 160 dollars for two. I dont get it.. The 'burrata' appetizer for 18 dollars is actually three slices of mozzarella on some sad looking tomatoes. Dont know how this place can survive.
The food was great , but the restaurant temperature was unbearable. We left immediately after eating
Nice cosy spot with hearty pastas and ambient vibe amid hip hop backdrop
