Sad to see this place close but so glad we made it back one last time. Drove from the peninsula for the sendoff. Food is still as delicious as ever and enjoyed my favorite dessert, PB&J! We ate 7 dishes between 2 of us.
pathetic , sad , staffed by horrible people - stay away …. they oughta close the joint
damn I will really miss these guys !! ---hello Sauce Belden
I was running late and the restaurant held my reservation. Once I arrived ordering and serving of food was friendly, quick and unobtrusive. Food, especially the limited entrees available, is very good, and the shareable items are also fun and tasty
As always, 5 across the board! It is sad this location is closing, but hopefully, qith the infusion os the Gough team, will change the dynamic of t IHG e Belden Lane location!
Sauce was awesome as usual! It’s too bad this gem is closing down. We will miss you!
The waiter dropped our drinks on the way to the table, and it was clear that he was new to wait staff, and inexperienced. However, there were other issues -- the music selection was a poor choice for this type of restaurant. The main courses were served at different times, causing the hot food to cool before we could eat as a table, and the last item to come out was the soup (showing that the delay was really the waiter and not the kitchen.) Then, to add insult to injury, without notice to me, the waiter added 20% tip automatically on a table for only 4 diners. We will not return.
I'm very sorry to hear that they're closing down this location in Hayes Valley. I'll miss it!
Picked Sauce blind before SF Symphony. Pleasantly pleased with dinner and convenience to Davies Hall. Not a lot of wines by the glass, but otherwise, a really good choice. We'll go again.
From the street it's not particularly noticeable. The interior, on the other hand is nicely appointed and the bar is in a separate room from the main dining area, so it's fairly quiet. The food is prepared creatively and you will find it interesting as well as tasty. The owner and wait staff are attentive and friendly.
I have been wanting to try Sauce for some time and was delighted. A good choice for before the symphony. Interesting menu with very attentive service.
Great food at reasonable prices. Small plates great for sharing.
Sauce has been a favorite comfort food restaurant for me and my family for years. My daughter and I were there for dinner before the Opera. They had a steak special with creamy cheese mashed potatoes and asparagus that was simply to die for. And I could eat their tomato bisque soup everyday. Great service, great food and a very comfortable atmosphere. It was a fantastic evening.
We were not able to use our rewards dining card at this restaurant, even though I had made reservations & was send the $25 dining. The owner was kind enough to comp us $25, however I am concerned about other restaurants having the same problem keying in the number.
This restaurant is a bit dated both in menu and ambiance but being a bit on the older side ourselves we enjoyed it. They were great at having space near the theaters, having a decent meal and a drink at a good price, serving us quickly and getting us to the show on time. Thanks!
Pre theater dining at Sauce on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was not even full and service was still slow. Food quality was not especially good and portions small. Crab cake appetizer dish came out with three crab cakes half dollar size with a side of kale/carrot salad. At least the cakes were mostly crab meat and little fillers. I had the prosciutto wrapped rockfish entree which was not very special with little flavor.
We were one of the first one’s seated at 5pm, party of three. We had to make a show so we made early reservations. Waiter did not take our order promptly. Took over 45 minutes to get our food. Salmon, rock fish & chicken cutlet. Mulitple tables seated after us were served their entrees & gone by the time we were served. My husband had to literally go to the kitchen and ask what happened to our food since the waiter dismissed him when he tried to get his attention. This was after a party of six was served before us that had some of the same dishes we ordered but were seated at least 15 minutes after us. Food was over priced and nothing special. Fish was over cooked, poutine looked as though it was micro waved and everything was luke warm. Service was horrible. Will definitely not return!
Went here for an early dinner before a concert at the SFJazz center. Everyone was super polite and the food was amazing. Every dish was delicious. Can’t wait until the next time.
Good place to go especially if attending an event at the SF Conservatory of Music as the theatre is only a few minutes away walking.
Used this as a cheat meal and what a perfect place to do that! I got the prawns with spinach and crusted white corn grits... AH-MAZING! Just sat at the bar and it was lively and fun, the bartender was nice and had a lot of knowledge about the menu. I'd heard great things about Sauce and the meal definitely didn't disappoint. Can't wait til my next visit!
Just the right amount of food before a long sit for a performance.
Salad and main courses very good. We shared the white peach salad which had nice flavors and a dressing that did not overwhelm. Smoked beef stroganoff was dark, rich and yummy. Rock cod nice and came with mashed potatoes, a favorite. Main weakness has been dessert. Limited choices and mostly alcohol infused. Service adequate but not outstanding. Our late night go to spot.
It was our second time here. Everything was very good. Great chowder and red pepper soup. The salad with grilled peaches sounded great but lacked inspiration.... a better dressing and better grilled peaches would have been a plus.
The prawns, grits and sautéed greens were delicious. We decided to split the entree and our kind waiter had it done in the kitchen. Always a plus in my book.
Also they pour a generous cocktail. Another plus +++
Service was really good. Our server was personable, knowledgable and helpful. Nothing special about the ambiance. Nice little Hayes Valley stop. Not outstanding, not bad.
Had a great meal and a lively time at Sauce. Very friendly and knowledgeable waiter. We will be back soon.
The food and service were great. We had the ribeye for two. The steak was tender and very tasty. It was served very nicely and easy to share. Great place for dinner before going to the symphony. A bit expensive.
I really wanted to like this place, but nothing we ordered had interesting flavors. More importantly, nothing had SAUCE!!! I was looking forward to trying things with different sauces or unique combinations. The only thing going for this place was the server to friendly, patient, well informed, and hot.
Had a group of 18 for my Good food, accommodating and friendly staff.
EVERYTHING on the menu is DELICIOUS! I have been here about 10 times and everything is always fantastic! The bacon-wrapped meatloaf bites are a MUST
I was surprised at how good the food was. The ambience is very low key, and the menu was a bit limited, but I really liked the "Impossible" Bolognese, and the clam chowder was exceptional. We'll go again.
forgot the appetizer ! understand that happens. but only two tables occupied at the time
Where’s the sauce?! Disappointed in the amount of sauce-y dishes for a restaurant called Sauce. Friendly staff, ok food. We called multiple times to add to our party with no response, and were surprised to find the restaurant only half-full. Would pick another place next time.
Indifferent service, tiny bites and reheated food make this a poor, and expensive, choice among the many nearby options. Empty tables should be a tip.
It was a mediocre dining experience. There were few menu selections, and the preparation was average. On the positive side, it is close to several concert venues, and they minded the time.
Sauce is a great option for pre-show dinner - small plates and full entrees, very imaginative but still down to earth. We enjoy it very much!
Fabulous! Service good, food delicious. It is a fine spot for casual dining or a special occasion.
We had eaten here before and had a great experience. We happened to attend the theatre at a matinee, unusual for us, and thought a dinner visit to Sauce would be warranted. Again, the food and service were great.
Always a great spot for dinner. Try their Impossible Bolognese. It’s their best dish!
The service was fabulous. Food was excellent. The chef made some wonderful modifications for our gluten free needs....quite tasty! Would definitely return.
we went before symphony and it was very nice. Waiter had a bit of an attitude though
We had a wonderful experience at Sauce: Gough. Our meal was outstanding! Also, the atmosphere was great as well. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.
