I had the Dungeness Crab Roll and it was delicious! The roll was homemade and soft. The entire crab roll just melted in my mouth.
I had previously only eaten at the Sauce location in Hayes Valley (which has the adorable inn "Sleep Over Sauce" right above it). I really enjoy how late both locations stay open. Since I usually work until the bad close, even on my nights off I'm staying up late, so closing at midnight, as opposed to 11, maybe even 10, really helps me enjoy my experience more.
Me and my date decided to share a few small plates. Beef carpaccio, tater tots, meatloaf, garlic bread, and the candied pecans and fig salad to balance out the very meat heavy meal.
The beef carpaccio was pretty good, I haven't had that dish in years but it's one I love (along with steak tartare. Don't ask me why I love raw meat so much, I don't even know). Their's was flavorful and tasted fresh, which is all that really matters to me.
The gator tots came with a few sauces. I have to say they were my least favorite, and they were good! Just everything else was so amazing and they weren't on the same level.
The miniature bacon wrapped meatloaf was stellar. It came with gravy, on tiny mountains of mashed potatoes. The spices used were amazing. I couldn't figure them out, but I wish I had the recipe.
The salad was delicious as well. I'm not that much of salad person Maybe it's that I'm not that into the salads I usually am given as option; sad, bland side salads or heavy, protein filled meal salads such as Cobb. The salad at sauce was perfect; astringent greens with bits of candied pecans and figs to off-set the slight bitterness.
For dessert, we order the Sauce Sampler. It's a bit more expensive then the other desserts but it was the best part of the meal by far. The presentation was gorgeous. The PB&J was really more like pound cake with ice cream and strawberry preserves. The "donuts" were tiny little cinnamon squares with blueberries and a vanilla bourbon dipping sauce. The s'mores were probably my favorite. And now I'm on a personal mission to make s'mores in my own apartment.
The food was incredible, but as explained to us, the room doesn’t get any heat so it was very chilly. The restaurant is one room and is very dark. The seating Was either at the bar or a few high top tables and a couple really small tables. It was however worth it because the food was incredible we had the lobster Rangoon and crab roll with the sweet pickle salad and fries
Outstanding experience at Sauce. I took a client there for lunch, and he was thrilled - he said it was one of his favorite spots. It was a cold rainy day, so we both ended up getting the tomato bisque and grilled cheese. Fancier than my mom's campbells, it still wasn't pretentious. It was a great comfort food, tasty, and hit the spot. Other food being delivered looked wonderful, as well.
Took 30 minutes to get drinks
Lunch was everything I wanted and more. The tatter tots are not to be missed! Both of us had salads that were distinct and satisfying. Fairly large portions. The smores to top it off were also out of this world gooy and sweet.
We went here before catching a comedy show. We got there as they opened, our waiter was wonderful. The beef carpaccio was amazing as were their tator tots. Our dinner was delicious and I would absolutely go back again!!!
Food was delicious!! Tried so many things on the menu - all were fantastic - really happy with the veg options - lots of truffle oil used, which I love :)
My niece and I had a lovely dinner (prix fixe option) with a nice wine pairing. Food and service were great. Large televisions were on (muted, I think) the noise level was not conducive to polite conversation.
Went on Valentines Day. Chose to go with the special menu. The service was excellent. Every course timed well. The wine pairings (optional and a great value) were spot on. I hesitated at the initial taste of wine pairing for desert, but was pleasantly surprised.
The crab cakes to start (cliche right?) but we’re well seasoned and the sauce kicked it up a notch above.
The smoked Angus beef was great. The lobster tail it came with, was small (reminded me more of a large crawfish in China ;-) ) but was cooked very well and not accompanied with the standard melted butter which was a welcome change.
The butterscotch desert was a pleasant surprise as it was not the typical overly sweet that most come off as.
Will definitely be back and looking forward to exploring their menu further. Hope to be as surprised as I was tonight.
Golden Gate Burger - best burger on the planet! To my surprise it was 2 seared beef patties, there was nothing I could do make that burger any better. I am still tasting it in my mouth.
There are very limited menu options for vegans. The quinoa and kale salad was pretty good. Great presentation but it was way too sweet for my tastebuds. The rest of our group really enjoyed their burgers, tots, fries, and deviled eggs.
They have outdoor seating, which is a nice option to have on a sunny day.
The downside was how slow the service was (friendly just on the slow side to get things going), especially during the week for lunch when you're trying to get back to the office. We arrived on time and were seated right away but it took a long time to be asked for our drink or meal orders.
Boar chili great. Chicken sandwiches were odd tasting and most at the table didn’t finish them. Cheeseburgers were good. Service good
The hamburger was phenomenal !
Sauce gives you reliably good, upscale comfort food with a warm, friendly atmosphere and some of the best service I've had in the city. They also take gluten-free dining seriously: if you're celiac, like I am, they'll clean off surfaces and even clean out the fryer. This is my go-to place if I want to relax, feel welcome, and have a great meal.
We came here for dinner late on new years eve. The service was fantastic. We ordered from the regular menu, not the holiday menu. We asked the waiter what he recommended and he said we couldn't go wrong with anything on the menu. The meals we ordered bore this out. My son said he couldn't remember a meal he'd ever enjoyed so much. He ate his dinner and half of mine! It was very yummy! definitely will come back to explore other yummies on the menu.
Food was okay - the service was fine - except one guy who did not seem to do much work/ just walked around while his female colleague ran around doing everything on her own - or so it seemed. Took some time to get out order. They came with the entrees while we were eating the starters. A little unstructured, but food was fine. Inexpensive.
The tenderloin preset menu for New Year’s was great! We both loved our meals.
The service was slow and difficult to flag anyone down. It seemed as though the focus was on the back area of the restaurant where big parties were seated.
Our table felt cramped and the table itself was wobbly. We were sitting close to the server station and were continually met with sounds of crashing dishes as they cleared tables.
Go for the food alone. Be prepared to wait for service or refills of drinks. It seemed as though the servers attempted to look busy instead of being attentive.
I always pick Belden Place when I have a larger, last minute group, because the food is always really good and there are always tables. I hadn't been to Sauce before, but I really enjoyed it! We'll be back!
Great!! Excellent service, very attentive! Definitely coming back!
Tasty, but overpriced and under-sized portions. Competent, but not particularly interested wait staff.
Great food, friendly service, tons of delicious gluten-free options
We really enjoyed sitting outside under the heaters for a casual business lunch. The food was all great. The only disappointment was the size of the servings. I recall the menu saying something about healthy portions. This made us think that there'd be plenty of food to share but the servings were small compared to the expectation that this set. Still, we enjoyed it and we'd go back.
This is a fun place, very lively, with comfort food. We had small plates--sausage platter, macaroni and cheese, and roasted mushrooms. All were surprisingly good. Prices are reasonable, service is friendly and attentive. Sauce Belden is a nice place to spend time with friends. We would definitely go back.
I met a friend after work for dinner. We shared several plates - sautéed spinach and kale, the Brussels sprouts salad, portabella fries and the mini meatloaf with mashed potatoes. I enjoyed everything but the portabella fries were a really nice surprise. They were dipped in a batter and then fried and had a dipping sauce that I didn't use. We ate inside where it was cozy although they have a patio that is a nice option. The rain chased us inside but we realized that we still would have been covered if we stayed outside. Being vegan, I was still able to find options that worked for me.
Everything was perfect! The host was very friendly, the waiter was perfect (not hovering yet very attentive to our wishes). The menu is so good, it was difficult making decisions - but all of us really like our courses (i.e., we had to share so we could each taste the variety). Highly recommend.
Food and staff were amazing. Miranda made us both feel welcome and even gave my girlfriend a special treat since it was her birthday. Definitely one of the best places we ate at while visiting.
The staff are lovely. The place is nice, and in a good location (down a little side street with lots of other bars and restaurants. The wine selection was good and we had a very quaffable red. However it is the food that lets this place down. On the face of it, the menu reads as creative with some great ideas, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The coating on the mushroom chips was way too floury, dry, bland and caked on. The macaroni cheese was bland. The crab wontons were suspiciously fishy...to the point that we didn't eat it (just in case...having said that I had no stomach issues at all), and the dipping sauce it came with just did not compliment the dish at all. All in all, it was very disappointing. I may pop in for a drink on the way somewhere else, but I wouldn't bother eating here again.
Always a great spot for comfort food in the middle of SF. I haven't tried dinners yet but the lunches are very good
They no longer serve the lobster roll, which is what we went for. Instead, they have a crab roll that was so bland. The sausage plate was good, as were the deviled eggs, but the overall meal was not great. I would say the food is a bit overpriced and not worth it.
Always good hearty comfort food with exceptionally friendly service. The portobello fries are great, the appetizers are always delicious and so are the entrees.
Surprisingly happy with the experience! When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty, which made me wary. However, I was completely delighted with the service, food and drinks. The tater tots were yummy to share, the tomatoes and corn salad was amazing, the steak was perfect and the vegetarian strudel was a-mazing.
I have eaten here many times, and will continue to suggest this place. The food is good, the deviled eggs must have drugs in them, they are ridiculous. Great cx sando, great burger, and my clients and guests always enjoy their food. I'll be back soon.
The tomato bisque was a somewhat small portion ( but good!) but the little warm cheese sandwiches that were served with it were really wonderful! Both my dining partner and I had salads and both were good. Oddly, we were the last ones there for lunch and seemed to get forgotten - in took a while to get our tab and the waitperson didn't mention desserts!
Vegetarian strudel was delicious. Waiter was attentive. We sat outside for dinner as it was quieter than inside the bar area, it was a bit cool but with a jacket it was fine.
Fast, friendly service and amazing food! The quinoa salad and chicken parmesan were both incredible, and so was the PB&J dessert-- not nearly as rich as it sounds.
Lobster bisque way too salty, wrote it off, but piece of lobster on baguette on the side excellent.
Server said he'll tell the chef. Could've been a situation too many people making the same
pot of soup and whoever didn't know what the last person put in. Everything else was fine.
Extremely noisy, don't expect to have a deep conversation there.
Great city spot
All of the Belden Place restraints have sunny, partially shaded outdoor seating areas that are perfect for a casual outdoor lunch. I've also been to Sauce during Happy Hour which offered some delicious bites.
