Sauce: Belden Ratings and Reviews
This is a fun place, very lively, with comfort food. We had small plates--sausage platter, macaroni and cheese, and roasted mushrooms. All were surprisingly good. Prices are reasonable, service is friendly and attentive. Sauce Belden is a nice place to spend time with friends. We would definitely go back.
I met a friend after work for dinner. We shared several plates - sautéed spinach and kale, the Brussels sprouts salad, portabella fries and the mini meatloaf with mashed potatoes. I enjoyed everything but the portabella fries were a really nice surprise. They were dipped in a batter and then fried and had a dipping sauce that I didn't use. We ate inside where it was cozy although they have a patio that is a nice option. The rain chased us inside but we realized that we still would have been covered if we stayed outside. Being vegan, I was still able to find options that worked for me.
Everything was perfect! The host was very friendly, the waiter was perfect (not hovering yet very attentive to our wishes). The menu is so good, it was difficult making decisions - but all of us really like our courses (i.e., we had to share so we could each taste the variety). Highly recommend.
The staff are lovely. The place is nice, and in a good location (down a little side street with lots of other bars and restaurants. The wine selection was good and we had a very quaffable red. However it is the food that lets this place down. On the face of it, the menu reads as creative with some great ideas, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The coating on the mushroom chips was way too floury, dry, bland and caked on. The macaroni cheese was bland. The crab wontons were suspiciously fishy...to the point that we didn't eat it (just in case...having said that I had no stomach issues at all), and the dipping sauce it came with just did not compliment the dish at all. All in all, it was very disappointing. I may pop in for a drink on the way somewhere else, but I wouldn't bother eating here again.
They no longer serve the lobster roll, which is what we went for. Instead, they have a crab roll that was so bland. The sausage plate was good, as were the deviled eggs, but the overall meal was not great. I would say the food is a bit overpriced and not worth it.
Surprisingly happy with the experience! When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty, which made me wary. However, I was completely delighted with the service, food and drinks. The tater tots were yummy to share, the tomatoes and corn salad was amazing, the steak was perfect and the vegetarian strudel was a-mazing.
The tomato bisque was a somewhat small portion ( but good!) but the little warm cheese sandwiches that were served with it were really wonderful! Both my dining partner and I had salads and both were good. Oddly, we were the last ones there for lunch and seemed to get forgotten - in took a while to get our tab and the waitperson didn't mention desserts!
Lobster bisque way too salty, wrote it off, but piece of lobster on baguette on the side excellent.
Server said he'll tell the chef. Could've been a situation too many people making the same
pot of soup and whoever didn't know what the last person put in. Everything else was fine.
Extremely noisy, don't expect to have a deep conversation there.
Vegetarian Strudel was the best veg strudel I've ever had. Perfect crispness and just enough filling. My girlfriend ordered the chicken parm and said it was very average.
Service and ambiance was great (we dined at 11pm on a Monday). No crowds and pretty quiet.
Located in Belden Place in the Financial District. We started with Moscow Mules, then had the bowl of bacon, deep fried Portobello mushrooms, clam chowder and quinoa salad (just for a sprinkling of healthy food), topped off with deep fried sugar coated mini donuts coated with powdered sugar. If you're in the mood for decadent comfort food, this is the go-to place. Belen Place has seen better days. We were there in the evening, but I'm sure it is a thriving spot weekdays at lunchtime. Don't miss this place if your in the mood for unpretentious no-holds-barred comfort food.
We took a group of 15 people to Sauce and had a great time! The food is delicious (though not light). I highly recommend the mac and cheese, short ribs, and donuts.
Our server Dave, did an AMAZING job, especially for having a large group. He was very attentive, communicative, took everything in stride, and gave awesome recommendations. It was very clear that he's done this before!
Wonderful spring day outdoor dining experience. It was a little breezy so had the overhead heaters on which my cold sensitive colleague appreciated. The grilled chicken breast sandwich was absolutely fantastic. It was served with salad greens and potato chips with a naughty green goddess dipping sauce. My friend had the Rainbow Quinoa & Kale Salad which she thought was fabulous. The service was attentive but not hovering. I highly recommend Sauce for a nice business lunch or date with a friend on a sunny day.
Enjoyed a team dinner there with about 12 people. Food was fantastic, the cocktails were great and the wine list had some very good choices. Only downside is that they refused to close the door (it was left open to encourage others to come in) and there was a cold breeze. We all ended up having to keep our jackets on in order to stay warm. Not sure why they would sacrifice a current patron's experience for the sake of a "potential" patron.
worst food I have ever had, worst service, even the water is bad there, so disrespectful, so impolite, Horrible experience. not even the soup is edible. I regret every single penny I spent there. some one needs to shut this restaurant down.
only go if you miss headaches and nightmares. HORRIBLE
I've been to Sauce several times and get great, friendly service every time. Some of the plates are expensive for the amount of food that you get, but the salads are good. My favorite is the Rainbow Quinoa & Kale Salad. Great place for a quick lunch and a treasure for very late night dining.
Loved the vibe at Sauce - Belden. The location was absolutely perfect for my taste. Situated in an alley off Kearney, we walked by it at first. Energetic atmosphere in a relatively small space, but didn't feel tight at all. Service was great, and the food was even better. Dungeness Crab Rangoon as a starter and Lobster roll were 💯. Would come back in a heartbeat.
Ordered off of the limited Restaurant Week menu. Luckily, the options were those I would have ordered anyway. The menu is filled with lots of great comfort foods. Definitely want to go back and try more items. The pot roast was delicious, so tender and flavorful. The veggies were NOT dried out or lacking flavor, which can happen sometimes with pot roast. Food was amazing. The clam chowder was filled with lots of meat and flavorful. Also the brownie and ice cream were not simply a brownie and ice cream. Ice cream was very flavorful and chock full of goodies.
The place is filled with people from the FiDi and is very good for a 4 person group- nothing larger due to the size of the place. High exposed ceilings make this place extremely loud and it was difficult to carry on a conversation with the person across from you. The food was good but maybe a few dollars more expensive than it's worth. Overall the place was great due to the service. The service really made the place better for me (anyway). Some people may not feel the same but this is just my experience.
