We ate there for the first time Saturday night and LOVED it! Everything was delicious from the drinks, appetizers, salads, entrées, and dessert! A+! Can’t wait to go back!
The polish that distinguished Satterfield’s as a fine dining establishment is missing. Many of the long time staff are no longer there which definitely affects the experience. While I enjoyed an excellent Old Fashion from the bar, the appetizer that came out was very disappointing. Fritto Misto is an old standard at Satterfield’s consisting of delicately breaded and fried shrimp, fish and oysters. What we were served was very thickly battered and very salty. The oysters were cooked to a texture of chicken livers. And the fish was very dark, not the usual white, flaky pieces as in the past. Our waitress offered to get us another but we decided to move on to the main course. We split the grilled pork chop served with collards and field pea salad and it was tasty. Dessert of flourless chocolate cake was fine, a bit dry but acceptable. Our waitress was good but we did notice she, one other waiter and the manager, who seemed a bit frazzled, were the only serving staff in the main dining room. Also, our reservation was at 7 pm and there was only one other table and the Chef’s counter occupied when we arrived. We don’t live in the area but have patronized Satterfield’s for almost 9 years when visiting Birmingham and have almost always had stellar food and service, even through a series of chef changes. It was disappointing not to see the new chef in the kitchen and maybe that contributed to some of what we experienced.
Wonderful meal and a great experience!! They even provided a personalized menu celebrating my wife and I on our anniversary.
Delicious food and excellent, friendly wait staff. Enjoyed our Mother's Day brunch... between the 3 of us we had fritto misto (tempura-like asparagus, oysters, shrimp & grouper), shrimp & grits, sweet potato/bacon/poached egg concoction, fried pork shop over collards/topped with an egg. We took home 2 "to-go plates" of leftovers, but still managed to indulge in a delicious, rich flourless chocolate cake.
Good food, the best service
We enjoyed our dinner and the restaurant’s decor. It was a bit noisy, but we sat near a large table of people and voices really carried. We had a delightful evening.

We booked Satterfield's last minute this past Saturday. Going here is always a treat but they got a new chef and it was outstanding. I had the scallops and my husband had the snapper. Simply divine. Excellent wine and excellent service, we felt spoiled with such great service.
This is a very loud restaurant. We had a difficult time talking with the other couple at our table and the waiter. The food was excellent.
We had a very good meal here. Good choices and well prepared & presented.

Bday great food and ambience
Satterfields is one of our favorite restaurants. Love the atmosphere and the service is always awesome (Jim did a great job)!
Food this time was common, meaning not bad but not what I expect from a nice restaurant.

We went early so seating was not an issue. We had a cocktail and the waitress gave us a few minutes to enjoy those and make our decisions. My husband had soup and we shared an appetizer of fried oysters, shrimp and fish, excellent and not overcooked (plus they gave you enough tartar sauce to enjoy it with all the fried foods). For an entrée we both chose the snapper filet and that was a perfect choice. It was moist and flavorful with asparagus, spinach and mushrooms in just the right amount of broth. After all they food we were not hungry for dessert - maybe next time.
I am sorry to say we were a bit disappointed vs the Open Table Reviews. We had the cheese plate, soup, asparagus salad and red snapper special. Overall the food was good, not great. One thing that was very off putting from the first step was the smokiness from the open kitchen. Definitely not enough kitchen ventilation to evacuate the kitchen smoke. The staff was very friendly and attentive.

My third time there and I have enjoyed all three times. Service was great and food was the best.
First, the place was so loud that my husband and I couldn't really talk to each other. The service was great, but the food was very lacking. My husband got fish, and he got maybe 4 potato slices with the fish. It also came with chick peas, but they were so hard he couldn't eat them. I ordered steak. The steak was so tough that I gave up trying to cut it after about 5 bites. It was flavorful, but too hard to cut and chew. I substituted sweet potato puree in place of what came with the steak. It was spread over the side of the plate to look nice, but after scraping it off, I had maybe 1/4 cup of sweet potatoes. In other words, expect the meat entree with no sides for a lot of money. The creme brulee for dessert was wonderful.

Outstanding food and service.
This is the fifth year my bride & I have celebrated our Wedding Anniversary. Once again we had a wonderful experience. Of course, every time we go to Satterfield's the food and the staff are exceptional!
Fabulous cocktails and wine selection. Fabulous food! Fabulous desserts and fabulous servers!

This was my second visit to Satterfield's and I must say the food was even better this time! The scallops are amazing and the dessert beignets were out of this world!!

The service provided by Donald was extraordinary. His attentiveness was almost telepathic. The food was delicious and was in generous proportions. We enjoyed both the steelhead trout and pork chops. They were the best pork chops I have ever had. The wine selections were above par. The cream brûlée with the birthday candle completed our celebration.
Hello. 4 friends from Georgia decided to try 3 restaurants in B'ham. We started with Satterfield's first. We arrived early had a drink and met a really nice real estate agent, Nancy. She purchased our first round. ALA. hospitality. My home state. Everything was great. Delicious food and desserts until fruit fly joined us for dinner and doubled charge for drinks. Hines, could not give 5 stars. Friendly staff. Great service. Will visit again.
Dinner was delicious. We had the oysters, rib eye and lamb. No complaints here. The staff was very friendly and it made for a wonderful birthday dinner.
Food and wine selection, excellent. Quaint atmosphere. Our waiter was terrific...his name was Martin I believe.
Drinks were good. Steaks were nothing special and sides (potatoes and mushrooms) were bland. Not worth the $150 I paid. Restaurant was so noisy that I could hardly hear my wife.
