The name “Sassella” comes from a hamlet of 60 residents known for its vineyards near where Chef Cristian Pontiggia grew up.

In addition to working at two Michelin Star restaurants in Europe, Lombardy native Chef Cristian Pontiggia has received several awards from La Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, an international gastronomic society. The Italian government recognizes him as a Master Chef, and he holds a culinary degree that certifies him as a Doctor of Enogastronomy.

We truly liked the evening at this fine restaurant. The ambiance was quite good and the service was above par. Only negative comment was a main entree that was returned for quality. The management promptly replaced with a different entree. Great establishment that is worth the high prices.

We asked around town about the best Italian restaurant in Sante Fe, and two different bartenders from different locations both pointed us to Sassella. We then looked at the menu and checked other restaurants out before reserving our dining experience. When arriving, never been there before were quite impressed with the looks and ambiance of this expectedly fine dining experience. We were really getting excited once we arrived to this very impressive high end restaurant. The staff was very professional and the entire dining experience was quite good with the exception of a very important item, the food. Personally growing up in an Italian family, travelling to numerous cities and have established a very good pallete from my experience and frankly our whole table, we were shocked at the bolognese sauce. Was extremely tomatoey, the carrots were undercooked, had really no resemblance of a bolognese at all. The pasta reminded me of the first time I made my own pasta where the noodles needed to be ran through the pasta machine a few more clicks to make the pasta thin enough to allow that melt in your mouth level that and silky texture that we all remember when experiencing a homemade pasta. This was no where near that experience. 3 of 4 of us had ordered the bolognese with all of them not eating more than 30-40% of the plate. Very disappointing to see this caliber restaurant deliver this level of quality. The Caesar salad was unique but odd. It was Roman cut standing upright with a Parmesan crisp on top sitting in a bowl with the dressing on the bottom. Interesting and unique but the dressing was influenced by the anchovies too much as if they put the egg, olive oil, anchovies into a blender for a minute nite to ensure emulsion experience then dropped in a few capers. Really? Capers? Ok , but was not a delicious experience rather an odd combination but still edible. Certainly not a $21.00 salad. Overall, the menu was extremely overpriced for the real delivered quality.

Ambiance is about as good as it gets (we sat in the bar area). Brandon the bartender/server was outstanding, friendly and professional. The caesar salad was a piece of art but only average on taste, too much emphasis on anchovies including 3 on top (overwhelming). I had the lobster carbonara which was quite a departure from traditional carbonara and should be given a different name, I would have appreciated a ham-bacon type supporting meat instead of the chorizo, chunks of lobster were excellent. The bread basket was excellent but the olive oil lacked the rich flavor we expected of Italian or Sicilian pressed olive oil. Our dinner, including wine, was about $100 each before tip. Definitely recommend for a special occassion but didn't have a "wow factor for the price" that would take us back more often.

Food and service was just fabulous. Unfortunately, the couple next to us was so loud, arrogant, complained about everything! Those around them heard the woman's belligerent language. Felt sorry for servers.

I came in last night to have a wonderful evening out with my mother-in-law. We sat in the bar and were surprised at how hip the environment was, with excellent service and fun conversation from the bartender, Mike. I at the lamb with these really tender and crispy potatoes and truffle sauce. My mother-in-law had the new penne pasta with Scottish salmon. Both were cooked to perfection! The drinks were also divine. Honestly, one of the best bar experiences in town.

We came in for a delicious dinner, and were surprised to find new additions to the menu. The lamb with truffle was very tender and the potatoes pave were fire! Very great ambiance in the dining room. Our server, Diego, was very attentive and knowledgeable. We will be back for the pre-fixe menu on New Year’s Eve!

I 100% recommend coming to eat & to enjoy a festive cocktail during this time of year at Sassella. The food choices are great & the ambiance is one of a kind. I really enjoyed the potato pumpkin soup & the Apple Toddy cocktail. The service was perfect we felt we were taken care of & Nidia made sure we had everything we needed! Will def be coming back soon :)

We had Thanksgiving dinner there because we have had a number of great 5 star meals there. The pear carpaccio appetizer was excellent, a wonderful mix of flavors. Ravioli was served as a first course and it was wonderful in taste and appearance. I chose the Turkey remoulade as second course. The fried green beans were delicious - I savored every one. There was about two forkfuls of stuffing but it eas great. There was a large slab of Turkey that looked great. Unfortunately it was the blandest Turkey I have had in my life without any seasoning that I could taste. I have never had a meat so bland at Sassella so I was very surprised. Finally there was a dollop of what was again very bland potatoes.

Dined on Thanksgiving, so 4-course set menu. Choices were great, flavors were spectacular & service was awesome! Chef Cristian really knows how to put together a special holiday meal & our server, Sabrina, made sure everything was perfect. Could not have been better!

The dishes have such high levels of attention to detail and flavors. Everything was something I would order again, but the whole menu seems that way. The only downside to the meal was the 20min wait between each course on a night where many tables were empty. We were a party of 2, 3 courses took over 2 hours.

This was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. My Chilean sea bass was amazing with wonderful veges accompanying. My husband’s ski tuna and he also felt it was delicious.

Overly stuffy place with better than average food at really above average prices. Had the braised short rib special—very salty and the pepper sauce kinda nondescript but the Brusselsprouts were killer. My wife enjoyed her risotto but didn’t think it better than any other risotto. Son loved the bolognese. Deserts were good. Overall I wouldn’t go back because I felt we had a good $150 meal for $300.

Beautiful restaurant. Cozy and quiet. Staff was very professional and attentive . I enjoyed the Salad mix with grapes , pecans and blue cheese. The veal with tomato sauce and cheese on top was average and It was plated with French fries. $65 seemed overpriced.

Pricey for sure but lives up to it. Service excellent too. Sabrina was our waitstaff…wonderful. Will definitely return. And, finally….a restaurant where you can converse with your dining partner without shouting. Hallelujah!

Our second time there. The first time was in the summer and we dined outside. This time, being winter, we dined inside. Definitely it was quieter outside, but the inside sound level was not too bad -- we could easily carry on a conversation and did not hear conversations from other tables. We will definitely go back!

Sassella is such a treat!! The food is consistently creative & delicious, the ambiance is elegant, yet welcoming & the service is outstanding. Comforting pumpkin soup started us off, with the chef accommodating one of our party by leaving off the meatballs. We moved on from there to a pasta dish with mussels, tagliatelle with buffalo bolognese & a pork shank that was fall-off-the-bone tender & brought to mind Fred Flinstone in terms of size! The wine list is extensive & our waitperson, Jayden, was very helpful in assisting with wine choices. She was professional & friendly without being intrusive. A stellar experience!
