AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! This was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. It began with the woman at the front of the house asserting that the sushi bar seating was only for those who partake in the Omakase menu. The Open Table listing says "Available only Omakase menu at Sushi Bar." That message is entirely incoherent. It could possibly be interpreted to mean that the Omakase menu is only available at the sushi bar. There is no plausible interpretation of this statement to mean that Omakase is the only option for those seated at the sushi bar. Moreover, and as I explained, there is no indication of any such restriction when selecting sushi bar seating on the Open Table platform. If so, I would have happily chosen to sit at a table. After continuing to argue with me, the woman at the front of the house begrudgingly seated us at the bar. Things got worse from there. I ordered two cut rolls. They came out as four enormous chunks each of what I suppose this restaurant considers food. The fish inside the rolls was some sort of paste that would be more appropriate for cat food. I have dined at dozens and dozens of sushi restaurants from the most basic to extraordinarily high end and I have never seen such poor quality. I suspect that this "sushi" was revenge for my contention regarding the Omakase restriction. In summary, Sasabune offers inexplicable policies, rude service, and disgusting food. Fortunately, there are very good options right nearby, including just across the street and at Robertson and Charleville, which saved our night.

I was very impressed by the food-fish really fresh and their great combination of sauces and toppings.. The service and atmosphere were ok. I was disappointed they wouldn't let us seat at the bar (which was literally empty the whole time we were there on a Saturday night!). Supposedly that is reserved only for people that order OMAKASE. Denying the customer of the bar experience at a sushi place, in my opinion, takes away from my overall enjoyment of going to eat sushi. Too bad because again the food was excellent.

My first time at SASABUNE on OLYMPIC; as I always go to the wonderful SASABUNE on WILSHIRE. WELL, I just have to say that SASABUNE on OLYMPIC did not disappoint and lived up to the incredible standards of WILSHIRE. great service, outstanding OMAKASE and my guests from out of town, absolutely loved it. 5 STARS FOR SASABUNE ON OLYMPIC.

Sasabune is our favorite neighborhood sushi restaurant. The fish is absolutely hands down the freshest and the preparation is flavorful and delicious. We took an out of town friend there and she absolutely loved her dinner! We will be returning again soon.

The sushi was top quality, and several of our Omakase pieces were amazing and worth repeating. However, the ambience is pretty mediocre, especially for the price point. There was literally masking tape holding up the cabinet in front of my seat. There were also spiderwebs in some of the corners and dust on the air vents. Place needs a thorough cleaning and a modest renovation.

This is the second location we’ve been to in LA and it’s just as amazing. The sushi melts in your mouth, the restaurant is quaint and never too busy, the staff was very kind and knowledgeable. The Omakase was so much food I was impressed! Run, don’t walk.

Sasabune is a classic minimal frills exceptional edo style sushi joint. Of the same tradition as Nozawa, the focus isn’t novelty but super high quality fish presented artfully over warm loose rice.

Great food. We sat at the bar which requires you to allow the chef to choose (subject to allergies) It was great fun with wonderful contrasts in taste and movement between cold and warm dishes. All accompanied by good Sake. Don't be put off by the "strip mall" location or simple furnishings. The food is great.
