With a kitchen team led by award winning chef, Mark Briggs, our sharing style menu focuses on the amazing fresh local produce of Gippsland. The menu features charcuterie & cheeses, little nibbles for all to taste, hand made pasta made with Forge Creek free range eggs, lamb, beef + seafood caught in the lakes.

The drinks list features award winning local wines such as Lightfoot & Sons and beers from Sailors Grave & Grand Ridge. Wines from further afield in Australia include Riesling from South Australia, Pinot Noir from Mornington + Tasmania, Tempranillo from Spain + the Yarra Valley, Sauvignon Blanc from Tasmania + New Zealand & international wines from South Africa, France, Spain, Italy + Portugal.

Our only disappointment was having to wait 50 mins from having the entree to eating the main, even though the order was taken more than 1.5 hours earlier.
There was obviously something wrong as the waitress apologised for the wait.
The food however was great and the wait staff very pleasant.

Absolutely the most amazing meal. Fabulous food. There was not one dish that wasn’t brilliant, top rate service. Our waitress was informative. But not pushy or rushed. I’d recommend this wonderful restaurant to anyone who enjoys the experience of fine dining 😊

It's hard to believe such delicious food can be found in Paynesville, nestled between a Supermarket and a Real Estate Agency. I highly recommend the Chef's Choice menu, as it provides the opportunity to try things you might not have been brave enough to order. Highlights were the trademark Sardines, the Lakes Entrance Flounder and the Duckfish Tartare with Edamame and Shoyu Mizu. Good selection of wines, reasonably prices. Excellent service - we will be back.

always look forward to an outing at the Sardine! Great venue, great friendly professional service and the best flavors and food. Also great coffee. A great feeling spot with the water across the road and boats galore

Pity one dish was served luke warm, another was five to ten minutes served after my partners was served. Serving reheated rissoto sent back was runny and very look very ordinary

Overall we were happy with Sardine. The food was excellent for most part, however I had the lamb which was dry and overcooked. We felt that the service was below standard. Took far too long for the drinks and then the gap between entree and main was far too long.

We will definitely be back as the setting and the food were fantastic, not to mention the wine list which was very good.

An East Gippsland treasure that is receiving the plaudits it deserves. ( Age guide 1 Hat etc) Took a small group of galpals from Melbourne here for lunch recently. These ladies are used to fine dining and good food and wine and were genuinely impressed with the quality and freshness of the fared here. Service was knowledgable and friendly and the wine list excellent. Can highly recommend for creative locally produced food and wine. Will return!

We enjoyed fresh seasonal and interesting food accompanied by a good Cava and excellent Jim Barry Reisling. Our server, Laura was attentive without being obtrusive. All in all a great birthday dinner with Happy Birthday written in chocolate on dessert plate

Omg...wow... amazing from beginning to the end!!! I was offered a voucher for the chefs selection for two. I was a bit worried because my partner doesn’t like fish or seafood. Well, usually doesn’t like it because their chef is that amazing that he can make you like anything!!!! Service was lovely as well, smiling and helpful from the two waitresses. Best restaurant I’ve ever been too, and that’s saying a lot! Wonderful experience, we’ll be back for sure!!! So worth the drive to Paynesville!

We had high expectations for Sardine, and we were not disappointed. The front-of-house staff were friendly and informative about all the menu items, and the food was amazing!! This is definitely the type of place you go to spend money on having an amazing dining experience. Drinks were also well matched to the menu. We hadn't even finished our meal before planning a return trip. Well done Sardine, we will definitely be raving about you guys to anyone that's keen on great food.

Good fresh local food. Great service, understood their product and suggestions were on target.
Some of the dishes were a little fussy with the sauce overwhelming the very fresh local produce.
Anchovies, scallops and snapper were our best choices. Sardines were ok.

We were looking forward to eating at Sardine and the dining experience did not disappoint. The Chef's selection meal was delicious with several fish dishes. We liked the focus on the use of local produce.

Our very pleasant waitress suggested that we share three entrée dishes. We did not want the main course dishes which in our opinion were excessively expensive.
Admittedly they were only very small entrée sizes but frankly we were disappointed - particularly with the 'bugs'. Very little content, not tasty and accompanied by a few pieces of cabbage in some kind of sauce.
The wine was OK but again very meagre quantity per glass. Not good value.
The setting is very nice but we would not rush back again.

As usual we had a most memorial meal. The tasting menu just kept arriving with delicious and interesting dishes. Tried the signature "sardines" Outstanding considering I did think I liked sardine. And the dessert was sublime. So lucky to have this restaurant at Payneville.

Fabulous from the service to the plates! East Gippslands best by far and so unpretentious, will be back. Thanking you for your hospitality and an amazing diverse food delight, being so far from Melbourne hometown originally, it's so very appreciated and will be rewarded we're so sure.

Sardine was fantastic. The food was incredibly delicious and we loved that the dishes all suited sharing so we got a taste of everything! The staff were friendly and attentive, and helpful in recommending a good amount of food to order. There was great music playing but it didn't make conversation difficult. Overall a fabulous dining experience!

It is great to finally have a quality resturant of this caliber in the Paynesville/Bairnsdale area. If the Chef and staff keep on as they have, SARDINE has a very bright future ahead.

Do yourself a favour, pick a time and go along for a dinning experience you will enjoy immensely.
