Sarabeth's West Ratings and Reviews
We had an issue with our reservations at Sarabeth’s. When we talked to hostess she said we could wait for our party to arrive. By the time our party arrived, a different hostess put us at the bottom of their list, and made us wait with the walk-ins. The second hostess was not very accommodating and very rude.
Our wait staff was impeccable, very pleasant, not hovering, but there when we needed her. Food was quite expensive for the quality of what was served. My friend and I split a salad for lunch, made up of chicken, arugula, and other fillers. The chicken was extremely dry, almost inedible, and there was not much of it. Nothing else in the salad stood out. Desserts were very good. I’d recommend the restaurant, but not glowingly.
I generally enjoy when I go to this restaurant which is not often. I ordered Salmon Eggs very clearly and the waitress brought salmon eggs Benedict. I made a point of the eggs because I wanted the corn muffin which came with it. As a result, I paid more than the eggs cost and paid extra for a corn muffin. The waiters are more concerned with being or seeming professional than actually listening to the order. Not the first time . All in all it’s a good place to eat.
Had not been there for several years, when I used to be a "regular," even as it became increasingly "chi-chi" and pretentious. Yesterday, it was crowded, noisy, indifferent service (took forever to get some sugar for coffee, no one came by to ask if we needed anything). Sound level too loud to have a serious business brunch. Coasting, perhaps, on its reputation and on the dearth of UWS brunch or breakfast venues.
I chose Sarabeth's because I was going to be on a plane all night and I wanted to eat food that was predictable, not highly spiced, and just plain good. Sarabeth's fills the bill. I had the salmon benedict (with smoked salmon.) Everything tasted fresh and delightful. I also ordered earl grey tea which they served in a little metal pot. The water was good and hot. Noise level made it a challenge to talk, but we managed.
Food and service were great. I expected a tasty meal and received one..... a cheese omelet. What was most disturbing was the noise level. We were seated in the back of the restaurant which I thought would be less noisy. It was not! The restaurant was full and there was nothing in the restaurant to absorb the chatter.
I would definitely return -- but at a different hour.
My favorite of the Sarabeth's in NYC (on Amsterdam) never fails to deliver a warm welcome and an excellent meal. I made a reservation for a Saturday night to meet a college roomie from out-of-town, and she showed up with another old friend! Great! And Sarabeth's was right there with a table for the three of us. We all enjoyed the evening and our dinners immensely. Low-key ambiance, good food. Truly a "neighborhood gem."
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant based on my single experience. The food did not have much of a taste, neither the fish nor the chicken. The waffles were good. Our server spent quite a bit of time at one table, chatting. People at neighboring table and ours had to wait for the visit to end before being able to order or get check.
Sarabeth’s is my go to for brunch and the food is always amazing. I strongly recommend their French toast along with one of their sides which can easily be shared with your dinner guests.
Unfortunately our waiter was not very attentive and messed up our order twice. However, it didn’t stop us from enjoying the meal and ambiance. I would still strongly recommend Sarabeth’s.
On the most recent visit (out of many) I was seated and my order was taken within 4 minutes and the food (Goldie Lox, which is scrambled eggs, salmon, and cream cheese) was delivered in 10 minutes. Everything was perfect, the food wonderful, and the staff great. The scrambled eggs combo was so much better than the same dish at other places. This is a small chain, the one I visit is on the Upper West Side (the first Sarabeths). The ingredients are fresh and nicely plated. Highly recommended.
Disappointed in Front of house staff acknowledged my check in and then after a half hour of waiting patiently the hostess argued 2 times that I did not have a reservation , I had my phone and had to show two different people the reservation .
Not worth the aggravation !
We have eaten at Sarbeth's for decades, and always enjoy the food, service, and ambiance. We usually go to the Eastside restaurant, so I'm not sure if that was the issue on this visit to the Westside location, but we had an early reservation (5 pm) prior to another event, the restaurant was nearly empty (one or two other tables were filled, and nevertheless, we waited 40 minutes for our entrees to be served, and mine was barely lukewarm (and as a result, barely eaten). With little time left before our after-dinner appointment, I just took it home rather than send it back to be reheated. Hopefully this isn't typical of the Westside location - I will certainly give the restaurant another chance as we have enjoyed it so much in the past, but this was a real disappointment.
