I first went there on a Friday with my sister pre-theater for my birthday. It was so good I went back again with the next day with my husband and 2 teenage boys pre-theater. I know I'm a lucky gal. I reordered Chiparones (grilled baby squid), Pulpo a la Parrilla (grilled octopus w/ tomato, onion, jalapeño, avocado, zucchini, chickpeas & pesto because they were so good. Both nights I ordered tapas. All were so good and I'm definitely going back because there's more things to try. The service was attentive and the waitress was so nice and patient because we kept ordering things. It's a definite must!!
Nice outside seating area. But do not sit under the grape vine. We had bugs falling on us and the table.
Food did not live up to the ratings.
Every time I've been to NY for the past three times, I've been to Sangria 46. I love their sangrias, their food is very good, their prices are reasonable (remember you're in NY), the wait staff has always been friendly and pleasant, and the ambiance is inviting. I would recommend it!!!
Great service!! Really enjoyed our dinner. Great location near theater district.
Food was great lot of variety. Vegan friendly menu
Great food and service, been there before and not a disappointment. Friendly staff, quite attentive. Food served hot as it should be.
Thank you for the happy birthday inscription on the plate with the candle in the pie
Very thoughtful of the service
Food and sangria was very good but our waiter was outstanding. We had a great evening and our wine glasses were never empty.
I expected better from a Restaurant Row establishment. The peaches in the special strawberry and peach sangria were from a can (it's peak peach season, people!). The house salad dressing was absolutely flavorless; skirt steak was just as devoid of flavor and came out with overcooked, sad steamed vegetables. The empanadas were wet and mushy. My husband's paella wasn't bad, but I've had much better.
We went for an 5:30 dinner before an early (7 PM) Broadway show. We ordered a la carte, instead of from the price-fixed choices. The portions are huge, and every dish, from chips and salsa to chorizo appetizer to main courses was excellent. We were out in plenty of time for the show. Good place to go pre-theater.
A pre theatre dinner. I had the Chicken Milanese. It was good, ordinary. My date had a traditional Spanish dish and raved about.
The food is nothing to write home about. We had tapas which were fairly good and not delicious. The staff are very nice and friendly. The ambiance is relaxing. Groups are very noisy.
I went to celebrate my birthday with a group of friends. We had a good time. The food had mixed reviews. Some of the seafood was overcooked. But the manager/owner was very accommodating, she took good care of us. And even gave us a round of shots. The customer service we received is what stood out. I've been before on a date and the food was great. Maybe it was an off day.
The tapas were disappointing. The Gambas al ajillo barely tasted of garlic. It was a tomato based sauce, Spanish, but not al ajillo. The “Argentine empanadas” has a thin limp, soggy crust. The worst I’ve ever had, here in NYC, in Mexico, or Argentina! The filling was at best passable.
The steak was a good portion, and cooked to the correct temperatures. It was served with onions that could have been sautéed a little longer. The potatoes were good.
It was a date night meal before the theater. Good thing we are adventurous as we had a good time, but we won’t be back.
There was a table howling with laughter that you could hear throughout the restaurant. They were obviously having a good time.
Life is too a short to eat mediocre food.
Food excellent. ESP enjoy pri fix lunch w comp glass of sangria! It has no soft goods to muffle/absorb noise so it can get very noisy. Go before it gets busy
Food was really sub-par especially for the price. Typical 46th street tourist trap. Disappointing.
The food was very good especially the paella valenciana. The portion was hugeee and the flavor was very on point. All the other tapas dishes we tried were yummy especially the crab stuffed mushrooms. Was perfect place to eat in between the two Harry Potter plays.
Comfort food was tasty but we asked for a paella and the rice was overcooked and the seafood was somewhat too dry. The service was courteous and friendly and the sangria made up for everything as it was really tasty & super delicious! The flan dessert was just perfect for the end of that meal!
I don't often write reviews, but I feel I should share about my experience at Sangria 46. I was in the mood for savory Latin food and we were on our way to a show in midtown. Yelp made this sound like a pretty good bet. It was not.
- The food was bland (the shredded beef special, which was more peppers than beef) or overly vinegary (the chicken special, with a side of rice and beans).
- When we mentioned that there wasn't much beef in the (overpriced) special dish, we were told that the chef measures out a specific portion of beef for each serving and that my companion had gotten a fair share. Perhaps he scored a point on accuracy, but he lost two on customer service.
- The sangria was ok - not the best or worst, but definitely not up to what you expect for a place with the word in its name.
- We sat on the patio, which seemed a lovely option on a nice summer evening. Alas, the restaurant air conditioning unit was overhead and made conversation anywhere on the patio tough. We should've gone inside, but it was too cold.
I know, I sound like The Princess & the Pea or Goldilocks. In fact, we're fairly easy-going and were just looking for a slightly above average dining experience. I wish we had braved the noise at Havana Central, a midtown staple where you can always have a very tasty meal, great drinks and live music at a good price.
Sangria46 was gracious enough to accept our late reservation as well as our request for outdoor seating. On this particular night, however, the service was incredibly slow. I never thought (with a 6:30 reservation) that we'd be in danger of missing the start of an 8PM show, which was only a few blocks away. Once the outdoor patio crowd thinned out, we (along with the couple to our side) seemed to be forgotten.
There was a particularly long wait for our entrees. I ordered the skirt steak after being told that the arroz con pollo would take 40 minutes; however, the steak, as well as my wife's order, took just about that time to arrive to our table. Thankfully, we were both satisfied with our dishes.
The ambiance of the outdoor patio is a nice feature of this restaurant. Its location on restaurant row is certainly ideal for a pre-show dinner or drinks.
Despite the slow service, we would return to Sangria46 (with hopes that we just caught them on an off-night).
Tasty food, great service. Would come back again to try more dishes.
First time here. Secured a last minute OpenTable reservation during the pre-theater rush so it was a bit crowded when we arrived but emptied out quickly and then steadily started refilling while we enjoyed a leisurely meal. Great atmosphere with nice outdoor seating in back. The food is the main headline, with a variety of fantastic tapas dishes that were amazing. We didn't try entrees or desserts, as a variety of the small plates were plenty. The wine list was also very good. Service was a little slow at times but it was easy enough to flag any server passing by to request more water. Everyone was very friendly. We will definitely return.
Dependable pre-theater meal, prompt service, food is fine.
My wife & I came to this restaurant after a theater matinee. We thoroughly enjoyed it - delicious food, excellent attentive service, great value. We can’t wait to return!
Very nice place to eat in the NYC Theater District. Great pre-theater but get there early if you want paella as it takes a minimum 20 minutes to prepare. The grilled Pulpo (Octopus) a la Parrilla, was fantastic. It was so tender and delicious. The smell of the Pulpo (Octopus) a la Gallega from the adjoining table was very appetizing as well. We also had grilled Shrimp a la plancha on a bed of mixed veggies, with a side order of white rice. The Paella Valenciana was another hit. It was a very large portion, certainly enough for 2 to share. Great value for the food. The flan was average, served with a dollop of what seemed like canned whipped cream. The restaurant itself was nice and clean. Professional, quick service. Definitely worth going to!
Delightful experience. Very nice restaurant near Times Square and the theater district. The chorizo plate appetizer was super.
Good food, friendly staff, good service and most importantly good prices for anything near the theater district
Always a must for my NYC girls vacations. I LOVE this place! I come every time I'm in Nyc! The food is amazing, the staff is so attentive, (and usually the same great staff) , its so cozy and the prices are amazing! This place is a 10 for me and everyone that's ever come with me. You wont be disappointed. I have never, ever been. The sole is out of this world! I think about it for days after I've had it. Will keep coming here till its no longer here, or I'm no longer here, lol.
Something for everyone on the menu. Food arrived quickly. Delicious from sardines to dates wrapped in bacon. Nicely decorated. A bit noisy.
Had dinner after a show and we enjoyed it. Sangria and tapas were very tasty. Service was a bit slow and it's noisy but I would go back.
Don't get the filet of beef. I asked for medium rare and it came out grey and dry. Sent it back and instead split my husband's paella, which wasn't bad. Restaurant much noisier than I'm used to, but probably typical for NYC.
The food was ok. The shrimp was a bit over cooked. I like garlicky, juicy shrimp. The stuffed mushrooms were very good. The service was very good.
Love Sangria 46! Excellent food and the sangria varieties are sooo good. Wait staff is very friendly and efficient. Great meal and drinks for before/after show or just for a nice meal out. Desserts are really good, too!
Unica pecca. Attenzione a non farvi fregare con la mancia. Ho accettato con piacere di dare il 15% ma, facendo finta di niente, me ne hanno caricato il 20%. Le furbate hanno le gambe corte!!!
Perfect restaurant for a quick bite before a show. The tapas were delicious and we split a classic paella that was also very good. The pitcher of sangria was spot on.
We love Sangria 46. It is an annual stop during our annual NYC trip. The food and staff are wonderful. Great, casual atmosphere.
Outstanding service, great tapas and salads. Paellas look delicious, will need to try on next dining experience. Red Sangria was very tasty and refreshing.
Sangria with lunch, brunch or dinner, with small plate options, pre-fixe options and a la carte options. We enjoyed a summer afternoon in their open air patio, with a good pitcher of Sangria and a couple of seafood lunches. All in all it was leisurely, relaxed and friendly. Food was satisfying but we did not have a chance to try more authentic offerings. Will be sure to come back and order a variety of tapas dishes.
This is the second time here with my girlfriend. We visited after a Broadway matinee. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. We love the different kind of Tapas they serve. We will definitely be back. I always recommend the location to friends for a pre or after dinner show.
