Our server Page was nice but slow iand In attentive. I began eating at this restaurant in 2006 at the old location. Historically the food has been good and service has been very well I typically would bring customers to this restaurant and my family a few times a year. My last few visits have been disappointing. Are usually would order a Antipasta salad and you guys made one of the best however I was told recently you discontinued this. I questionedwhether it’s actually true yet page chose not to verify.
I had the pasta with white clam sauce. It was the best I’ve ever had!
Honestly, it was just ok. Value for your money wasnt the greatest. Mixed green salad with balsamic tomato and cheese was $9 and it was seriously over dressed. I had the Pollo Alla Sicillianq. The mixed vegetables were good. Chicken didn't really have a lot of flavor and it was served with mashed potatoes, which wasn't listed on the menu. (Your at an Italian restaurant, no pasta)
Interesting wine list and a traditional “Italian restaurant” menu (not innovative). Lasagna was a bit on the salty side, a bit cold inside.
I’m so stuffed I’m about to die. It is so good
Not enough space . Parking was atrocious. People parking in no parking areas along the curb making it impossible to move around. Where were the “Police”. We arrived and sat down to find a very “Close Quarter” environment. You could hear everyone’s conversation as the tables were so close. Our server didn’t even know we were celebrating my wife’s birthday when we made note ahead of time the occasion. If you don’t care don’t ask when we are making a reservation. My wife’s pasta was go greasy that she didn’t eat more than a fork full. (They did offer to take it off the bill). Not that i was expecting but didn’t even offer a “Comp” desert for my wife cause it was her birthday. I will not return and would not recommend this restaurant. They should enforce parking in a space and tow vehicles parked in areas that they should not be. If going, use the Valet Parking and save your self the aggregation. or just park across the way and go to Provision or Sushi Blue Grill. No aggravation and better , ambience and Food. Been a long time since I have written a negative review. In this case it was warranted. Sorry.
We noted in our Open Table reservation that this was a birthday dinner, yet there was NO acknowledgement of the birthday at all. The entire experience was just “ok” - nothing special to bring me back.
Excellent food and service. A bit noisy.
The Best Italian Restaurant in Indianapolis with excellent food and outstanding service (I recommend Zach as your server).
Exactly what I expected out of my reservations. Food and service were wonderful and I definitely will be going back.
Veal was great as always. My wife chose a pasta special - which she praised. Although they were busy, service was good and the server balanced between allowing us to enjoy our meal and keeping us at a pace to turn the table reasonably. Always a favorite for us.
Fantastic experience at Sangiovese! Warm reception, great service and an interesting menu made this 150 mile trip to Sangiovese worthwhile. If I lived in Indianapolis, I’d go there at least once every week.
First time eating here!! Service was amazing and I loved that the waiter asked us why we were there. The chef also cut my girlfriend meal into the shape of hearts!! I would highly recommend to others
We went there to celebrate our anniversary and I cannot say enough about the evening. Each course was wonderful, nothing at all negative to write about the food. It was a wonderful way to spend our anniversary. I am looking forward to going back for my birthday.
Very good food & service
3 yrs in a row we've gone to Sangiovese. Excellent food wine and atmosphere. They just keep on adjusting those lights for that romantic atmosphere!! Get ready to spend more than $100 for 2 - pricy yet worth it!
This was our first time at the newer location at Ironworks. We were not impressed. I wouldn't call it "FINE" dining as their website suggests. The overall look and decor was not what I expected compared to the old location. No table cloths, hodge podge cluttered front hostess area, no coat check or even a place to hang a coat. Silly book shelf at the front to block the dining area from the entry. Small wine vignettes in several places that just seemed to clutter. With that said, our service was fantastic. The choice of red wines was adequate. Our table ordered the fried ravioli which were just as expected. Delicious for what we ordered. The Spaghetti Fra Diavlo sauce was fantastic and rivaled some of the best my husband has eaten. The risoto special was not special. The risoto itself was not creamy and had too many additions (artichoke hearts, spinach, sausage, tomatoes and feta cheese) that overpowered. We didn't order dessert as nothing jumped out and said "I'm worth the calories!" Overall, we will probably not be back anytime soon as there are many other italian restaurants that truly offer "FINE" dining. It has potential but it's not quite there.
Great for a Valentines day dinner! We had the goat cheese appetizer, and my wife and I both had the Chicken Paremesean which was enough for leftovers. We also had the Gelato for dessert. Everything was delicious.
Food wasn’t as good as I expected. Everything else was great
Restaurant and staff very accommodating to our gluten free family members. Also we had dined there a couple of months ago and could not remember the wine we were served. The lady (manager?) came to our table to help and actually remembered us and the wine we had. Very impressive.
Food here always good! Good service & nice setting. It’s a favorite of ours!
Overall, the experience was good. We ordered a bottle of wine....they substituted the bottle due to bringing out. They didn’t tell the waitress. Brought about confusion at the table. Lucky for them, we liked the wine. Just didn’t care for his they handled it.
My husband and I and another couple dined at Sangiovese last Friday night. We had a reservation for 7:00 pm and were sat promptly upon arrival. Our waiter, Scott, was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu.
Our food was ok. I got the chicken parm that came with a side of spaghetti. The spaghetti was definitely from a box. That’s a huge bummer considering the price of the entrees. My husband and a friend ordered the fish of the day which was incredibly small. They both commented on the small portion of the fish dish. Maybe since the waiter said it was $35 and they expected a larger amount. The bread served with dinner was very good, but our waiter never brought another basket.
My problem and main reason for the low rating on this review is the fact the waiter, after collecting our signed bills, asked us to leave. We were there less than 1.5 hours and apparently they had more people to sit down. I feel this is unacceptable. We dropped over $300 at this restaurant and I felt like we could stay and have a nice conversation with our friends. I’m almost 50 years old and have never been asked to get up and leave a restaurant before. I have a call into the restaurant to share this with a manager, but they have yet to return my call.
We won’t be going back anytime soon.
Devour menu options were good, food was good. Service was a little hit or miss, but overall good.
This is one of my favorite restaurants and it is the first time I have been there since their second restaurant opened. Our food has always been very happy good, but small details were missing. They were quick to clear off our table, so quick a water spill was still on the table and I used my hand to clear it off. A table next to us was cleared, a napkin had fallen and remained on the floor through another sitting and was still on the floor when we left. Usually their caesar salad is crisp and cold, it was warm. Tiramisu is usually offer as an option, but was not, even though their price had been raised. The entree itself was hot and excellent. It was very good, but not up to their usual impeccable standards.
We made reservations for 7:00 and arrived at 6:55 and were seated immediately. Our waitress was prompt with the water and informing us of the devour and regular menu offerings. We decided to do devour and the rest of the meal followed very nicely. We took our time and enjoyed the meal. The helpings were generous so we took the dessert to go. We we home by 8:30 and it was 15 minute drive.
I had such fantastic service that I took a friend here for her birthday. The server was cordial but disinterested and inattentive. He could barely take the time to describe the food or make recommendations. He dropped off bread without a word—without butter. We discovered after a bit (it was dark in our corner) that there was olive oil on the table for dipping. I wanted to ask for parmesan cheese to add to the olive oil I had poured into my bread plate but the server never checked back. Dinner took awhile to arrive (it’s Devour Downtown season) and was not what I expected. The woman who dropped it off told me to let her know once I tried it if I would prefer something else, yet neither she nor our server checked back. This was in stark contrast to the interested, engaged server my friends and I had last time, during Christmas season, and the restaurant didn’t seem any busier. I’m not sure I’d go back. The entire dining experience is important to me. I can find good Italian food elsewhere.
We had the Devour Indy menu that Sangiovese offered and it was fantastic. We also ordered an appetizer that was outside the Devour menu, the Torta Di Caprino, which was a baked goat cheese pie served with a rosemary cream sauce garnished with red peppers and served with their house made crostini. It was superb. Our waiter, Zach, was excellent, very attentive, and on top of everything. We had a wonderful time.
Visited Sangiovese for a date night on a Sunday for the devour indy winter fest. For the value the food was excellent as well as the drink options. The atmosphere provided a nice intimate dining experience and we had wonderful/speedy service. I would love to return and would recommend Sangiovese to family/friends.
Great place! First time eating there. We will return.
It was excellent
Ate at 5:30 PM on a Friday and the noise level was high. I believe it was do to the workout center next door. I would complain to the landlord to have that noise proofed.
Waitress did not pace our meal at all. Slow/fast, all over the place.
Fettuccini was not good. The veal was great.
Loved the atmosphere and the service was great. We went for Devour and it was PERFECT. Will be back!
Delicious Italian dinner!! We loved everything from wine to cannolis.
My wife and I dined here on a little mini honeymoon. We received excellent service from Andrew, who went out of his way to find us recommendations for a place to go for a drink. We received a free dessert AND entrée as a gift for our marriage from the staff. Overall it was a great experience.
Great service. Ordered the special, halibut topped with crabmeat. It started out amazing, but I believe it continue to cook on my plate and dried out. Still, I would return.
