They don't make restaurants like this anymore! Easily the best "old-school" Italian restaurant on the Upper East Side.
Went with my wife as we live in the UES. Greeted warmly by Host and though only back or front tables were available we were allowed to choose and it worked out fine. Food was fresh and tasty - we order a pasta and grilled prawns and Ceaser to start. Wine list is a little pricey for value but it is NYC. Overall vibe was mostly older with some families but it was a Sunday night. Only drawback is they have so many specials it was hard to follow with most variations of the current menu.
Would definitely recommend for food and service.
Sandro's is a hidden neighborhood gem. The food is superb. Service is always friendly.
Food was great, Lentil soup fantastic on a cold blustery night
Excellent meal. As always.
Always a perfect experience. Highly recommended - The best Italian food in NYC.
Excellent service, excellent food and a very friendly environment
Delicious food and excellent service
As close to Rome as you can get without a passport. We had the asparagus with truffles and eggs appetizer, which, expensive, was totally worth it. We ordered the veal valdistana, a special, which was a chop, butterflied, stuffed with cheese and prosciutto. Excellent and delicious. Wine list is modest, but some really good values are there. We love this spot, and the owners are delightful. They and the staff ensure that you enjoy your dining experience.
WOW - that was the general impression. We’ve lived on UES for 9 years and this was our first visit. How sad is that for us - we’ll most certainly be back. From reasonably priced wines to excellent balsamic berries with crisp grissini, creamy Burrata, cacio pepe pasta, and the best veal chop valdostana I’ve ever had. There may well be more specials than menu items. And , believe me, that makes decisions difficult. As mentioned, first trip was outstanding and we look forward to many more. Enjoy.
Loved loved loved it! Best food!!
Great anniversary dinner! So many specials to choose from, and always great to go to a place that feels like a neighbors joint but also upscale.
Everything was a pleasure! The staff is warm and welcoming and the food was outstanding. This is very authentic— like a cozy restaurant in Rome, but tucked into a side street on the Upper East Side.
Great staff, food was fantastic, price is on par for NYC but they’re generous with portions and extras.
I went to Sandro's with three friends for a friend's birthday party. Three of us who shared a salad got extremely ill - two of whom are pregnant. We were up all night violently sick and I will spare you the details, but it was awful and one of the pregnant women ended up in the hospital.
We had a wonderful evening with our party of 8. The waiter and staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The food is delicious. Everyone was happy with their meal!
Real Italian food! Outstanding good food! Great service! It is a italian gem in NY!
Fabulous food. Great service.
Love everything about Sandro's.
Would eat there again and recommend to friends.
Delicious food, warm and friendly ambience and chic at the same time.
Good for daily and any and all special occasions!!!
Such authentic delicious Italian food with a wonderful peach melon and homemade peach grappa to end things a wonderful dinner. Also the butter cookies with my cappuccino. Excellent.
Great attitude of our waiter/bartender!
Fabulous as always on all levels! No other Italian restaurant even comes close!
It was Great!
Sandros is one of the best and authentic italian restaurants in NYC. Each dish was excellent. Wine list is as always very good. We enjoyed the evening. Staff is friendly. We had to wait for table approximately 30 mins but we were offered wine and cheese while we waited. Terrific dining experience.
Fantastic authentic Italian great service wonderful wine list and the food was sublime. Cozy spot on the upper Eastside highly recommended
Excellent food and service, I highly recommend it.
Food and service were great! The home made grissini are addictive. Everything was super fresh and tasty! Service is excellent without being hovering.
I thought it was very good. The food was delicious, the service was very friendly and nice and I would definitely go back and recommend it to other people.
A nice comfortable restaurant that offers great food when it comes to bold setting. The menu offers a limited number of selections in each section. But each section offers some unique selections. There is an extensive list of specials in each category, the length was quite surprising and we were Amazed by the waiters ability to recite all of them.
The food is high quality and well prepared. It's a bit pricey but still reasonable for the quality. They did not skimp on portions.
I have been several times and tonight was extremely disappointing. The swordfish paillard, a special at $42 (we found out only after receiving the bill) was so mushy, the texture was dreadful. The sea urchin ravioli didn't taste anything of sea urchin. We asked for ricotta cheesecake which they usually have but they didn't have it but recommended a pistachio cake ($14) that was supposed to be similar was nothing like a ricotta cheesecake. I wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Without question, one of the best Italian restaurants in NYC. Food is delicious, service is solid, and the hospitality from the minute I walked in was amazing - as if I was a long lost friend coming for a visit.
Would definitely return. Ion factv already booked Christmas Eve.
Great service, wonderful food and special touches
Sandro is a gracious host and food is authentically delicious.
It was in the same time traditional and genuine
Made for us
And the wines were really good
We’ve been really seduced
Just a wonderful restaurant.
Food was excellent, however we missed seeing Sandro greeting guests in the restaurant. Despite acoustic panels applied throughout, the noise level is quite loud.
