Made reservations in advance. Was sat with in literal inches of a another couple and between two external doors (cold out!) and the bathroom. Could literally hear the toilet lid go down. Ordered drinks and one came out 5 mins before the other. Not great for an $18 drinks but fine. The drinks we good, not great. We ordered an appetizer. Waitress came back to take our dinner order. Suddenly, one of our appetizers came. We were assured that the app was on the way. Fine. 6 mins later the second entree comes out. (Can we not just bring items together?) Appetizer is still on the way. Waitress never asked about other drinks or refilled water. Finally said to cancel the appetizer and paid, bill and card sat on the table for a while. When giving us the bill the waitress said she’d be back with water….that was offered oh our way out. Along with….the appetizer. $100+ for two drinks and two entrees that were on the low end of the menu. This place thinks it’s upscale, it’s not. It’s not professional or all that good. I would be livid to have ordered $150 omakase, glad we didn’t.

Sushi/appetizers were awesome. Cocktails tasty and unique. Rolls are a bit large and mostly variations of a California roll—with Krab not crab. Disappointing esp at this price point. Duck liver mousse was tasty but diff to eat—it is literally a smear so miniscule amount of mousse and diff to spread on toast since it was already spread on side of bowl. Spicy tina tostadas and pork belly baos are definitive standouts. We loved the yellowtail sashimi and big eye tuna nigiri also! Looking forward to a return visit.

We had a very nice experience at Sandfish and would likely return to try other dishes. They have a solid menu for items other than sushi. We had the big eye ngiri, Sandfish roll, Scandinavian roll, and pork belly BAO buns. Sandfish roll was tasty and was a large portion. The pieces were cut a bit too large, so were hard to eat. Big Eye ngiri was excellent. Fresh, flavorful. Great cut on the fish. Scandinavian was on. Not the biggest salmon fan, but wife liked it. BAO buns were good. Pork belly was well cooked, not chewy. Buns were soft and fluffy. Ambiance was nice. Nice outside seating areas in front and back with heaters. Back has nice outdoor fireplace.

We celebrated my husbands birthday and it was perfect! We sat next to the fireplace which made it super cozy, and they even had blankets available in case it got too cold. I asked them if they could do something special for him and they created a personalized whiskey drink just for him named after him. It was a nice touch and he loved it. The langoustine and wagyu Sushi were amazing, and so were the spicy tuna tostadas - totally recommend!

Amazing food and drinks, but pricy. Sushi rolls were average size but tasted amazing. Waitress and Ambiance were great. The Entres could offer more for the price. We had the braised octopus (somewhere around $25 plate), and it was literally a 6' piece on top of edamame humus and micro greens. It was cooked perfectly (melt in your mouth), but they should provide another piece of equal size for that price. We had 3 Sushi rolls, two entrees and two drinks, $190 before tip.

Small, loud, fine. Rolls were at most entertaining, main courses were either sold out or on the smaller side. Service needs more training and does not know when/how to check in. For example, we waited a while and then our server showed up and when we asked about best drink or food, she responded with her favorites rather than ‘don’t miss this’ type of suggestions. Drinks pricey but worth the value. Favorite thing we ate was the waygu beef carpaccio. If it’s cold out, wear layers. We were sat next to the door and it was constantly opening so I never took my coat off. Cool vibe, the food was fine, I wanted to love it more than I did.

The restaurant is beautiful and cozy. We sat outside in the back patio, which was perfect. The food is definitely expensive relative to other sushi places in the area but the serving sizes were surprisingly large. We ordered the spicy tuna tostadas, cauliflower Bao buns, and two sushi rolls and we were absolutely stuffed. The food was prepared well and presentation was gorgeous. Overall great experience and a nice date spot.

I’ve never written a review before about a dining experience but feel this one is worth noting. It’s also important to note that it is a newer restaurant and therefore they are still working out the kinks. Our server was clearly training, but still unfortunately did not know the menu and didn’t do a great job and presenting the food and even snapped at one of the food runners in front of us. Our table of 4 decided to do the omakase meal, which as stated by the server would be 9 courses. There were no whiskey recommendations with the meal unfortunately which was part of the reason we chose to dine here. Out of the 9 courses only 3 were sushi. Although the sushi was fresh, it felt like any other sushi restaurant in town. For $150 a person for omakase we definitely anticipated a much different experience.

Tiny venue, so reservations are HIGHLY recommended. We got sat at the bar which was like having dinner and a show. We were able to watch the bartenders making (strong) drinks and the guy at the other end making the sushi rolls. Staff was pleasant and food was good.

We enjoyed Sandfish during a getaway to Palm Springs. We liked it enough to eat there twice during a short getaway. So we went for my wife’s birthday when we heard they opened in Phoenix. Service was way off, and the food and drinks lacked the same quality and flavors we remember while in PS in October. Also, wow, shishito peppers appetizer for near $20? Portions are large. Almost to large for maki rolls.

The restaurant is beautiful and cozy. My cocktail was delicious and unique. We ordered lots of different things and everything tasted amazing. Star highlights were the duck liver mousse, the Koko roll and the gyoza. Our server was super friendly and helpful in steering us on ordering. Great blend of authentic and American/ Southwest Sushi. High quality ingredients, amazing space, great ambiance. Mains are pricey but rolls are on par with with most upscale sushi restaurants. It’s not a budget a sushi joint, and it’s not trying to present itself that way. It’s where you go to have a decadent experience, splash a little more cash than you ought to, and live a little. Take a date, go for a special occasion, or just treat yourself because life’s short and you deserve it!

Was ok at best…. The KOKO roll stated sweet heat. It was more like melt your teeth heat. The Langostino was ok but was basically a California roll with Tempura Lobster placed on top. Portions were adequate. Wait staff threw out half of a $20 whiskey while I went to the rest room. Over all probably not a second try for us.

Had my parents in town so I brought them here last night and we had a great time! Some of the best dishes were the sashimi (we got yellowtail), spicy tuna tostada, and octopus. The rolls were also great, the only thing that wasn’t as great were the pork belly bao buns, they could have had more flavor. Cocktails were awesome as well

Hands down the best sushi I’ve had in AZ. The Wagyu roll and the California roll with blue crab were some of the best sushi I’ve had anywhere. Also had the spider roll which was loaded with ginormous chunks of soft shell crab. The service was great. The vibe was perfect for a date night. Honestly wouldn’t change a thing except maybe the prices — but hey — you get what you pay for.

This was a pleasant experience. I think a huge part of it is the cozy atmosphere. If you've spent any time in Japan, especially Tokyo, you know that authentic Japanese cuisine is served in hole-in-the-wall establishments. Don't get me wrong, I love Nobu but it's big and flashy atmosphere doesn't really speak to a real restaurant like you'd find in the Land of the Rising Sun. It's probably obvious by now but the small dining room means that reservations are essential. This is Sandfish's second location outside of the original in Palm Springs. Since they've only been open for a month, service is enthusiastic and I really hope it stays that way. Our server was Logan and she was a treat. She not only helped to interpret the menu (and whiskey selections!) but even offered to take our photo, which was really nice. The specialties here are the sushi rolls but we navigated more to the sashimi side, which were also fantastic. The octopus is a must! It was really one of my favorites. The jalapeno poppers aren't the trashy kind that you'll find at a chain restaurant. Order them and be pleasantly surprised. Likewise, the Shishito peppers reeked of spiciness. Yum! Another highlight? The espresso creme brulee. I rarely order dessert but this was divine! Maybe the only thing that didn't work real well was the cocktails. I ordered an Old Fashioned and it didn't have pizzazz at all. Perhaps I should have tried one of their signature cocktails. I ended up going with a straight Suntory on ice and that was perfect. I'd recommend that to anyone. All in all, Sandfish is a welcome addition to the Japanese dining scene in Phoenix. I'd recommend this for a date night spot. Pro tip: the parking lot is small. Take a Waymo or other car service.

The food was delicious! Our biggest complaint would be how small the area was. The location and physical space of the restaurant was underwhelming. While the inside has an aesthetically pleasing bar, the overall space is extremely small and parking is very tough. I would recommend this place as a date option for two but would not be a good spot for a group gathering or family. Highly recommend ordering the Sandfish roll + Koko roll! The Summer Solstice cocktail was also a delight.
