About Sandbar Mexican Restaurant
We are a traditional Sonora style Mexican Restaurant and Tequila Bar. Guests will experience the authentic tastes and warm outdoor dining of Mexico. We use homemade sweet and sour with organic agave nectar in our world class margaritas. We also feature handmade tortilla chips and salsas, fresh Ceviche, homemade guacamole and the best fajitas around.
We feature a vibrant bar scene and a social atmosphere. We also serve our full menu nightly until midnight. Stick around after dinner as we transform into one of Santa Barbara's best late night hot spots.

Please park in the City Lot 11, its directly behind our restaurant and offers the first 75 minutes for free. There are 2 entrances to this lot, one on Anacapa St. and one on Haley St.
Local taxis pick up and drop off at a designated area 20 yards from our front door. The State Street Shuttle runs in front of our restaurant from 9am-11pm. It costs $1.

Sandbar Mexican Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We used a $20 Open Table certificate, part of the problem. The restaurants were limited to 3 in Santa Barbara and 2 more 60 miles away. We decided to take a chance on this one. Even the bar (it is a bar after all) wasn't very good with flat tonic in our drinks. The food really is terrible, fortunately not very expensive. It would be lovely if Open Table let the diner choose where to use the certificate.
I'd driven or walked past this place innumerable times. Was happy to see they took reservations and was able to reserve a table on a day when everything near the beach had a 90 minute wait (hard pass on that). Food was delicious and chairs were comfy. Lived up to my expectations!
Everything was fine, they were busy, our food took a while, was expensive and never asked if we wanted another drink when they were empty (water and beer) they just took the glass of beer and walked away. We wanted more beer but didn't see the waiter until we were asking for the check. My Q salad was good but pricy, it came with steak. It tasted good and was well cooked but was a little too expensive for the quality. Wish they had hot salsa. Cool place and odd fun outfits but had better of everything.
This is a hot spot in Santa Barbara! I love the outdoor seating and the heaters or fire pit when it's a bit chilly! The chips and salsa are addicting and the food is top notch. You can eat your typical Mexican dishes or even order a more Vegan meal. I like the option.

Das Wasser stank, der bestellte Bacardi-Cola war durchsichtig mit einem Tropf Cola, dafür viel zu viel Eis, als hätten die das noch nie gemacht..
Der Burrito war ganz ok, aber geschmeacklich kein Erlebnis, auch nicht die schlecht zerkleinerte Guacamole...
Hinzu kam ein Kellner der mehr demotiviert als sonst was war...
We went to Sandbar for brunch on Mothers Day as it was one of the few places left that had reservations and started serving before 10 am. We were seated outdoors in their beautiful patio on a beautiful morning. The menu had so many great choices we had a hard time deciding and everything was DELICIOUS! And great prices!
Went during happy hour (3 to 7 except Saturdays) and ordered a margarita (could have been stronger) and 3 items off the half price appetizer menu - for just me. I'm a big eater but I'm not sure I could have finished even two of the appetizers. I'm talking big portions and all the dishes I tried were quite good.
So, the one drink I had was just okay. But the food was both delicious and a great value. I'd go back for sure.
We were in Santa Barbara for the weekend and made a reservation at Sandbar not knowing what to expect. Had a great experience! Food was great, so many TVs to watch college football, and atmosphere is unique. My only complaint is my margarita was unimpressive.
Our food was good but the service was awful. It was also very loud like a night club in there. The server never came around then got upset when we ask him to split the check. He then proceeded to keep my change without asking (I was going to leave the change for tip anyways but still expected him to ask). don't recommend if you want to go somewhere you can chat with friends.
We ended going to Sandbar twice in three evenings we liked it so much. It's a fun vibrant place with different areas for seating. We liked the indoors outdoor sections. Service was fast and attentive. The food was good quality - in our case a nicely split carne asada burrito with two different sauces - and very tasty. Their guacamole is chunky and uncomplicated so the very fresh avocado can just shine. Their portions are sufficient for us, but for those expecting a huge plate don't be disappointed because the food and its preparation are excellent. A fun and worthwhile spot to go on State Street in Santa Barbara.
