Dinner: 5 - 10:30 PM
One of the worst dining experiences I have had
The server was totally unattractive
Asked if we wanted cheese on our pasta, we said yes, he NEVER CAME BACK.
Ordered tea, HE NEVER ASKED WHAT KIND, just brought Lipton for $6 The tea was returned and another tea was delivered, again poor training
Couldn’t get a check, finally gave my waiter my credit card and asked him to rush because I was going to my train. When the bill arrived with the credit card slip,, we were overcharged. !
They revised the bill and canceled the credit card charge and then Practically THREW THE BILL AND CREDIT CARD SLIPS AND CARD BACK AT ME.
Not even an APPOLOGY❗️❗️❗️
I don’t think I will be back to this restaurant
I also missed my train
It was a place we will go back to and tell others about w
Very expensive but the food and service are terrific and the menu is interesting.
Very good food with an excellent wine list.
Starters were great, mains not so. One out of 6 diners thought their mains were good. Very noisy and slow service.
The fact this excellent Italian restaurant is not well marked with signage tells you they have no problem filling seats with the quality of their food and service. The level of hospitality could only be accomplished by the gregarious style and personalities of San Pietro’s fine wait staff and management. The food was fantastic!
I can’t believe this was our first time, but we had not planned to make reservations and had intended to just walk down from our hotel to find a nice dinner. Our plane was late, so we used OpenTable to find a rez, and this gem was well rated for good reason. We are coming back every time we visit the City. Congratulations San Pietro!
Food was creative. Had lobster risotto. Special. Risotto was like regular rice . Lobster was two fork full. Sad fir the large price. The book is funny. You know they don’t have all the wines in the book. I mange to pick two that they ran out. Finally the waiter said he had one for me Z I told him to keep it in the price range . Of cause it was higher. The clientele that is here is not paying for there meal . Corporate accounts. So there really don’t care .
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the food, atmosphere, and service. Outstanding.
Food was good and the service was fantastic. We ended up being 22 people and we were treated very well. Only issue was the cost. It’s 3x more expensive than similar quality Italian restaurants in other neighborhoods. I expected to pay more for the location but not 3x more. I wouldn’t go back with a large group, maybe with 2-4 people.
Food is usually exceptional, but this time I found it too heavy (I had eggplant parmegiane and pasta di mare) and walked away with a heavy acidic stomach which stayed with me for the rest of the day. And this with no wine. Hence my 3 *
Location, food, service, ambiance were all excellent. Wine list was very extensive but the mark-up was very high even for midtown Manhattan.
We had a great experience at San Pietro. The servers were all super attentive, the food was excellent but the best part of our whole night was conversing with Marcelo. He was wonderful. Very italian, kind and fun. The ricotta cheesecake was delicious as was the Tiramisu.
Service was excellent. Food was good but not spectacular as priced. Great wine list.
Such a wonderful gem. It's in the heart of Midtown Manhattan and yet it feels like a neighborhood joint that you have been going to for years. Wonderful food and even better service! We loved it.
Exageradamente caro para lo que es, un viejo restaurante chapado a la antigua
Excellent service, good ambience
Good food options
This should really be a "4.5" overall.
The food at SP is consistently excellent and most recent dinner was no exception. Veal ravioli special, veal chop and wild salmon were all top-notch. The service on this visit was a bit distracted -- there was a large party (10-ish?) at the table next to ours and the staff seemed a bit confused. Nonetheless, they are old pros, with emphasis on the "professional" and nothing that goes amiss goes unremedied for very long. I enjoy the atmosphere -- for some it would be pronounced "stuffy" or "old school", and mercifully, those folks don't patronize the place.
A compliment: The wine list is very deep and the pricing of many bottles is quite fair. We had a very good 2004 Brunello from a distinguished producer that would be hard to find at retail. The wines by the glass are also attractive and well chosen.
A criticism: There are far too many wines on the list that are not available -- this is consistently an issue at Caravaggio (all in the family, I guess), but I hadn't encountered it at San Pietro. "We just ran out" might be plausible as to one's first choice, but I had to state 4 or 5 selections in order of preference before I hit pay dirt.
On balance, though, San Pietro is a treasure. They know what they are doing, they understand and care about their customers, they don't care a fig for fashion and they deliver a first-rate experience.
San Pietro is the kind of restaurant to go to for a special and/or romantic occasion. Being a midtown Italian spot, the prices are very high. However, the quality is outstanding. I appreciate a cozy atmosphere, white tablecloth, flowers and candles - so few restaurants do that anymore! The food is light, carefully prepared, and delicious. We split a lovely salad with asparagus and quail eggs, then split a spaghetti with roasted cherry tomatoes, then I had the branzino baked in a salt crust which was delicious too. We have gone to San Pietro a few times over many years, and it never disappoints. Glad they are still there!
This is a very high quality and as you would expect expensive Manhattan Italian. Food was great and staff were exceptional particularly the waiter who took the order. I had a bottle of wine which wasn't tasting great our waiter immediately switched us to a similarly priced Brunello without any question or even tasting the bottle we were unsure of. Very classy and ensured future visits from me just because of the way he handled it.
Also tables are about 2 feet apart which is decent for Manhattan - unlike many other places you don't feel like you are dining with your neighbors and you can have a business discussion there.
Food and service were excellent, but the wines were extremely overpriced.
Best Italian in NYC. The food is superb, the service attentive and Gerardo is the best host imaginable. The wine list is extensive and diverse. San Pietro never disappoints. We have been dining there since they opened and look forward to doing so again. In fact, tomorrow. Always our first choice for special events or just a quiet delicious meal. Our children have grown up there.
Superb dining option..one of the best restaurants in US.
Wonderful experience. Service superior, food excellent, perfect for a special occasion!
Service is excellent and the food matches the service. The well staffed restaurant makes you feel very welcome, whether it’s your first visit or latest. Pricey, so not for those on a tight budget, but well worth it.
One of my favorite dining experiences. They even have the most delicious langoustines you can get in nyc .
Dan Pierro is an iconic restaurant that has a tendency to live on its reputation. The ratio price/quality is excessive
Excellent food and service. Best in NYC
The matre d' and wait staff were outstanding in accommodating the food requirements of my guest. Though not a regular there, they made us feel welcomed and comfortable in all ways.
I go to San Pietro often for business lunches or dinners and regularly for dinner with my wife. It is uniformly excellent. While it may have a bias toward regulars, we are regulars. All of the service staff are superb and Manola and Gerardo treat me and my guests great. Whether it is on the menu, a special or just a request, the meal is prepared to perfection.
I love the restaurant and can rate it because I have been there before. However, on this occasion I made a reservation via OpenTable for Saturday July 7 at 8:15 pm.
We arrived only to find that the restaurant was closed until July 8.
The restaurant was closed when we arrived. We walked 10 blocks to get here but was closed for the week.
The restaurant was CLOSED for the holiday week, though OpenTable allowed me to make a reservation. I didn't know it was closed until I arrived at the restaurant with my corporate client for an executive lunch.
What an outstanding Italian Restaurant...classic food. This restaurants service and food are exceptional.
Excellent food and attentive service
Have dined here over the past 20 years and always the finest Italian cuisine, service and ambience in NYC. Pricey, but worth it. Ask for Manolo the world's best waiter. He will recite 12 specials or more without skipping a beat -- every day they change, quite a feat. The vitello tonnato is worth the upcharge and veal pizziola which is not on the menu, is excellent. Soft shells crabs were a special and outstanding. The chocolate mousse cake is worth the weight and the calories. A dynamite wine list especially if you are into Italian reds. A place in NYC that is unmatched, but go to your banker first to mortgage the house.
Loved our waiter
I travel to NYC often. There are hundreds of outstanding restaurants that serve excellent food. However, there is more to a night out than excellent food. The entire EXPERIENCE at this restaurant is 5 star. The restaurant is beautiful, the food is authentic, the food is fresh, the ingredients are all top quality and the service and special introductions by whom I presume is the owner (he said he was the old man) was both informative and delightful. The meal was simply perfect. We all ordered fish, 2 specials and the salmon that is on the menu. Our dining companion said the salmon was the best he ever had and he has been everywhere. My monkfish was incredible, simple but complex with a light tomato, onion, caper berry and olive sauce. We also had a sole special that was 11/10. Started with arugula and tomato salad. I didn't know they grew tomatoes on the premises but they must because they tasted just picked. The olive oil used for the bread was magnificent. Drinks were up to par as was the wine. Topped off with a nice little cookie tray. I will always go to this restaurant, no matter what, when I return to NYC. Want to go with a larger group in order to taste more dishes. Great job San Pietro, be proud of yourselves.
As someone whose family originated from Southern Italy, I can attest that San Pietro is truly one of the best Italian restaurants in Manhattan for authentic Italian cuisine. I'm in the city every week and I frequently dine here with by very best clients and my employees . . . and I'm never disappointed. I can't give high enough praise to this very special restaurant and it's owner and staff.
My wife and I came for dinner tonight after seeing Come from Away. I had eaten here six or seven years ago with business colleagues and remembered a fabulous meal. This experience did not disappoint. We put put ourselves in Manolo’s hands-a great arugula salad, an amazing scampi and pesto pasta dish (one of the best pasta dishes we’ve ever had), a soft shell crab dish and tiramisu for dessert. Service was excellent. I don’t understand why the place wasn’t more crowded. We will definitely be back.
A great experience. The service is impressive and welcoming and the food is well prepared and delicious. It’s expensive, but then again, we’re talking about midtown Manhattan, so anything other than a chain is going to be pricey.
Well worth a visit.
