A lovely evening excellent traditional Italian food
The service was excellent. Very attentive and friendly. Treat you like you are a regular. My food was very good but nothing extraordinary. The bill was high, even for New York.
Always fabulous food and service. One of THE BEST Italian restaurants in New York City.
A classy Italian restaurant. Will consider coming back.
Food barely adequate and overpriced. Server rude and unresponsive.
Excellent food and service. A little pricey, but it was very delicious.
Fish was bad and had to be sent back. Had a great meal last month but not a good experience this month
We have eaten there before and have had excellent meals. Unfortunately, my cod special had fish that was old though not spoiled and my wife’s chicken special had chicken that was way too dry. Overall, quite disappointing for the premium price we paid. The greens salad and the creme brûlée were fine.
Been a fan of this restaurant since it opened 25 years+ ago. The food is exceptional. Had a special of linguine with lobster tail, mussels and clams with shredded veggies and a slightly spicy light marinara sauce. Best pasta I ever ate anywhere including in my home. Wife had a delicious veal marsala dish with the highest quality of veal money can buy. That being said, be prepared to pay up. Most entrees are not less than $50 and appetizers are $20+. A glass of Brunello wine was $32 and while it was an ample pour, that is a bit out of line. The service equates with the food and prices - expert, caring and always wanting to ensure everything is perfect. Known head waiter Manolo for 2 decades and he has not lost a beat. Friendly, engaging and full of life. Gerardo the proprietor runs a deluxe establishment and is the best Italian high-end spot in NYC.
Took a while to get menus and they brought out the wrong wine at first. Other than that the food was excellent. Midtown NYC prices. Quality and authentic for sure though!!
Quaint old Italian Restaurant . Excellent food and service!
Will go back again!
A really personable place to dine. You really are made to feel welcome here, and the food is always well prepared. So it is a little pricey but well worth it!
Best Italian I've been in NYC!!! Amazing food, great experience+
My favorite NYC restaurant! A neighborhood gem. Staff are excellent and know everything about the menu. I rarely order...just ask Manulo to bring me his favorite for the evening. Saturday, I had the ravioli with mushroom and it was so perfectly done; I am still dreaming about it!
Extensive wine list but the house wine is a winner!
We did not know what to expect, but the restaurant was quaint and the atmosphere was fantastic. The servers were wonderful and attentive. We loved the food. It was excellent and a wonderful value. San Pietro was a gem and I am so glad we found it.
On a recent trip to nyc this restaurant was recommended by a friend. We were celebrating a special birthday and I had mentioned this on open table. We were seated between 2 noisy large corporate tables. Service was poor at best - the special birthday was never acknowledged- waited a long time for waters, champagne & menus. They had us in and out in just over an hour. Food was good but didn’t make up for the poor service. The charm was turned on when the bill was delivered. I never complain about restaurants as life is short but I couldn’t let this one go! I guess we got it on a busy night (Tuesday?). Wouldn’t go back.
Have been to San Pietro several times. First time I would say they over booked themselves so much that it really compromised the service.
Worst dining experience in 25 years in New York, Food O.K; everything else "the worst".
fantastic time service insane food was fantastic fish best ive ever had wine list i thought i was in total wine just a great experience with a home like feel. like eating with your family
Food and service excellent! Ambiance very nice. Pricing much too high for food and serving size
Beautiful meal to great beginning of our mini vacation.
One of the worst dining experiences I have had
The server was totally unattractive
Asked if we wanted cheese on our pasta, we said yes, he NEVER CAME BACK.
Ordered tea, HE NEVER ASKED WHAT KIND, just brought Lipton for $6 The tea was returned and another tea was delivered, again poor training
Couldn’t get a check, finally gave my waiter my credit card and asked him to rush because I was going to my train. When the bill arrived with the credit card slip,, we were overcharged. !
They revised the bill and canceled the credit card charge and then Practically THREW THE BILL AND CREDIT CARD SLIPS AND CARD BACK AT ME.
Not even an APPOLOGY❗️❗️❗️
I don’t think I will be back to this restaurant
I also missed my train
It was a place we will go back to and tell others about w
I love San Pietro, and it is a good choice for a special or romantic occasion. It’s an old New York style midtown Italian restaurant, elegant and correct. I usually get the branzino baked in salt which is delicious. Only problem we had was that a table of 10 very loud men was next to us. Why are people so loud in restaurants? No one would have to yell if everyone was considerate!
Very expensive but the food and service are terrific and the menu is interesting.
Very good food with an excellent wine list.
Starters were great, mains not so. One out of 6 diners thought their mains were good. Very noisy and slow service.
The fact this excellent Italian restaurant is not well marked with signage tells you they have no problem filling seats with the quality of their food and service. The level of hospitality could only be accomplished by the gregarious style and personalities of San Pietro’s fine wait staff and management. The food was fantastic!
I can’t believe this was our first time, but we had not planned to make reservations and had intended to just walk down from our hotel to find a nice dinner. Our plane was late, so we used OpenTable to find a rez, and this gem was well rated for good reason. We are coming back every time we visit the City. Congratulations San Pietro!
Food was creative. Had lobster risotto. Special. Risotto was like regular rice . Lobster was two fork full. Sad fir the large price. The book is funny. You know they don’t have all the wines in the book. I mange to pick two that they ran out. Finally the waiter said he had one for me Z I told him to keep it in the price range . Of cause it was higher. The clientele that is here is not paying for there meal . Corporate accounts. So there really don’t care .
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the food, atmosphere, and service. Outstanding.
Food was good and the service was fantastic. We ended up being 22 people and we were treated very well. Only issue was the cost. It’s 3x more expensive than similar quality Italian restaurants in other neighborhoods. I expected to pay more for the location but not 3x more. I wouldn’t go back with a large group, maybe with 2-4 people.
Food is usually exceptional, but this time I found it too heavy (I had eggplant parmegiane and pasta di mare) and walked away with a heavy acidic stomach which stayed with me for the rest of the day. And this with no wine. Hence my 3 *
Location, food, service, ambiance were all excellent. Wine list was very extensive but the mark-up was very high even for midtown Manhattan.
We had a great experience at San Pietro. The servers were all super attentive, the food was excellent but the best part of our whole night was conversing with Marcelo. He was wonderful. Very italian, kind and fun. The ricotta cheesecake was delicious as was the Tiramisu.
Service was excellent. Food was good but not spectacular as priced. Great wine list.
Such a wonderful gem. It's in the heart of Midtown Manhattan and yet it feels like a neighborhood joint that you have been going to for years. Wonderful food and even better service! We loved it.
Exageradamente caro para lo que es, un viejo restaurante chapado a la antigua
Excellent service, good ambience
Good food options
This should really be a "4.5" overall.
The food at SP is consistently excellent and most recent dinner was no exception. Veal ravioli special, veal chop and wild salmon were all top-notch. The service on this visit was a bit distracted -- there was a large party (10-ish?) at the table next to ours and the staff seemed a bit confused. Nonetheless, they are old pros, with emphasis on the "professional" and nothing that goes amiss goes unremedied for very long. I enjoy the atmosphere -- for some it would be pronounced "stuffy" or "old school", and mercifully, those folks don't patronize the place.
A compliment: The wine list is very deep and the pricing of many bottles is quite fair. We had a very good 2004 Brunello from a distinguished producer that would be hard to find at retail. The wines by the glass are also attractive and well chosen.
A criticism: There are far too many wines on the list that are not available -- this is consistently an issue at Caravaggio (all in the family, I guess), but I hadn't encountered it at San Pietro. "We just ran out" might be plausible as to one's first choice, but I had to state 4 or 5 selections in order of preference before I hit pay dirt.
On balance, though, San Pietro is a treasure. They know what they are doing, they understand and care about their customers, they don't care a fig for fashion and they deliver a first-rate experience.
San Pietro is the kind of restaurant to go to for a special and/or romantic occasion. Being a midtown Italian spot, the prices are very high. However, the quality is outstanding. I appreciate a cozy atmosphere, white tablecloth, flowers and candles - so few restaurants do that anymore! The food is light, carefully prepared, and delicious. We split a lovely salad with asparagus and quail eggs, then split a spaghetti with roasted cherry tomatoes, then I had the branzino baked in a salt crust which was delicious too. We have gone to San Pietro a few times over many years, and it never disappoints. Glad they are still there!
