Dan Pierro is an iconic restaurant that has a tendency to live on its reputation. The ratio price/quality is excessive

The matre d' and wait staff were outstanding in accommodating the food requirements of my guest. Though not a regular there, they made us feel welcomed and comfortable in all ways.

I go to San Pietro often for business lunches or dinners and regularly for dinner with my wife. It is uniformly excellent. While it may have a bias toward regulars, we are regulars. All of the service staff are superb and Manola and Gerardo treat me and my guests great. Whether it is on the menu, a special or just a request, the meal is prepared to perfection.

I love the restaurant and can rate it because I have been there before. However, on this occasion I made a reservation via OpenTable for Saturday July 7 at 8:15 pm.

We arrived only to find that the restaurant was closed until July 8.

The restaurant was CLOSED for the holiday week, though OpenTable allowed me to make a reservation. I didn't know it was closed until I arrived at the restaurant with my corporate client for an executive lunch.

Have dined here over the past 20 years and always the finest Italian cuisine, service and ambience in NYC. Pricey, but worth it. Ask for Manolo the world's best waiter. He will recite 12 specials or more without skipping a beat -- every day they change, quite a feat. The vitello tonnato is worth the upcharge and veal pizziola which is not on the menu, is excellent. Soft shells crabs were a special and outstanding. The chocolate mousse cake is worth the weight and the calories. A dynamite wine list especially if you are into Italian reds. A place in NYC that is unmatched, but go to your banker first to mortgage the house.

I travel to NYC often. There are hundreds of outstanding restaurants that serve excellent food. However, there is more to a night out than excellent food. The entire EXPERIENCE at this restaurant is 5 star. The restaurant is beautiful, the food is authentic, the food is fresh, the ingredients are all top quality and the service and special introductions by whom I presume is the owner (he said he was the old man) was both informative and delightful. The meal was simply perfect. We all ordered fish, 2 specials and the salmon that is on the menu. Our dining companion said the salmon was the best he ever had and he has been everywhere. My monkfish was incredible, simple but complex with a light tomato, onion, caper berry and olive sauce. We also had a sole special that was 11/10. Started with arugula and tomato salad. I didn't know they grew tomatoes on the premises but they must because they tasted just picked. The olive oil used for the bread was magnificent. Drinks were up to par as was the wine. Topped off with a nice little cookie tray. I will always go to this restaurant, no matter what, when I return to NYC. Want to go with a larger group in order to taste more dishes. Great job San Pietro, be proud of yourselves.

As someone whose family originated from Southern Italy, I can attest that San Pietro is truly one of the best Italian restaurants in Manhattan for authentic Italian cuisine. I'm in the city every week and I frequently dine here with by very best clients and my employees . . . and I'm never disappointed. I can't give high enough praise to this very special restaurant and it's owner and staff.

My wife and I came for dinner tonight after seeing Come from Away. I had eaten here six or seven years ago with business colleagues and remembered a fabulous meal. This experience did not disappoint. We put put ourselves in Manolo’s hands-a great arugula salad, an amazing scampi and pesto pasta dish (one of the best pasta dishes we’ve ever had), a soft shell crab dish and tiramisu for dessert. Service was excellent. I don’t understand why the place wasn’t more crowded. We will definitely be back.

A great experience. The service is impressive and welcoming and the food is well prepared and delicious. It’s expensive, but then again, we’re talking about midtown Manhattan, so anything other than a chain is going to be pricey.

Well worth a visit.

This is one of the best italian restaurants in America. Manolo is the best, when he is there (most of the time) he greets you, welcomes you in an authentic and genuine way and explains the menu of specials with an enthusiasm and charm that I have never experienced anywhere else. The food is outstanding and the experience is always perfect. Do not bypass this NYC gem.

We made a last minute reservation and had a fantastic meal. If you are looking for a classic, authentic Italian restaurant, then look no further. Great atmosphere, incredible service, and reasonably priced. If you are looking for the most tender fish you've ever had then try the Sea Bass! We will be returning here on our next trip to NYC.

San Pietro is a gem with classic old world attention to detail on service, ambiance and cuisine. Every aspect of the restaurant has character. From the dangling lights on the ceiling, to the oddly colored ceramic wall art, to the servers that announce the lengthy daily specials in the manner of town criers.

Once you’ve become ‘a regular’ the greetings are warm and familiar. Almost as if visiting family that you like. The atmosphere is busy but not rushed and the food is authentic and to die for.

The specials are always a challenge as there are typically too many to chose from. This spring white asparagus is amazing along with black truffle pasta and the slightly chilled tomato soup with crabmeat, lobster, and oyster. And those are the starters.

For entrees branzino (for two) baked in salt is light and delicious. The braised rabbit is a special treat and any of the homemade pastas are wonderful.

Basically this is a tourist trap close to the five avenue. We where at 9pm on a Saturday to have dinner and celebrate my friends birthday. The place was empty and that should have been the 1st bad sign. The food: The broccoli truffle soup had no truffle, the calamari fritti was not fresh (felt frozen) and a simple penne pasta with tomato sauce for the kids was 36dls!!! The waiter was very eager to refill the bottle of sparkling water to the top if the glass so they can bring another bottle. You feel pushed. My friend order a fish from the especial and it came at 56 dls without us knowing. You feel robbed when you get the bill.

I did not argue as I did not wanted to spoil the dinner birthday for my friend. I would never go there again and I suggest that if you do, you should get the prices of all specials.

It was overall a very bad experience.

We had a wonderful experience at San Pietro. I hadn't been there in about 10 years (I used to work in the neighborhood and dined there often) but it is still as good as ever. The service is outstanding, the food is wonderful and when we asked our waiter for a wine recommendation, he simply brought a bottle of Cabernet to our table and it was perfect for our meals and reasonably priced. I'll have to get back there again, but not wait 10 years.
