San Marcos - Raleigh
We welcome you to a family-friendly environment, where you will enjoy all the aspects of a classic-cultural atmosphere.
I enjoyed lunch but the Pollo soup didn't have much flavor. The service was great though.
Best Chili Rellenos I have had in Raleigh, finally!
My mother, who was visiting from out of town, was treating me, my wife, and our two kids to dinner.
Worst restaurant experience I've had in quite some time . The food was fair, but the service was atrocious.
1) my mother ordered fajitas. It took multiple reminders to have somebody bring tortillas.
2) my wife's food came five minutes after everybody else's food despite the fact that her dish and mine were nearly identical (other than mine had pico de gallo, hers did not, so not sure why there was a time difference).
3)it required asking multiple times asking for them to bring ketchup for my son's French fries (I know...he's hopeless! but still should not require asking multiple times!)
4) when ordering, my mother had answered yes to wanting cheese with her fajitas, and there was no cheese. They came when she had two bites of food left asking if she still wanted it.
Then, for icing on the cake- after they had given my mother the bill and she had put money with the receipt, the waitress came, quickly said "oh sorry, we forgot to charge for the milk, so it costs more" and she whisked the money and receipt back away. This was INCREDIBLY tacky. Based on the poor service, I might have expected them to say "the manager adjusted the price because of the issues that you had with your food".
We will definitely not be back. I would have gotten better service by our two kids at home and the food would've tasted at least as good. We were embarrassed to have brought an out-of-town family member there.
This was our third time going and we enjoy it all the time it’s a beautiful place and great food . The staff was professional and quick .
I made A reservation on Open Table for San Marcos on May 5th and they did not honor it. Instead they said they were not accepting reservations and that it would be a 40 minute wait. I have been here several times and love the food but this was very disappointing.
Good food at reasonable prices.
Food was ordinary and cold. Santiago, the server was excellent. With so many Mexican restaurants near raleigh I can’t see coming back here
The food was good but a little more expensive for mexican
We had a reservation at 7:15, we were told to wait a few minutes. Waited 30 more minutes and were told that the kitchen was backed up. So we left.
My family of eight enjoyed our meal very much. The service was excellent. Angel was our server. He is a real asset to San Marcos. The atmosphere is such a happy setting. Glad this restaurant is in Raleigh.
My wife and assistant have eaten here a few times, and have had a much better experience than I did. I will give them a second chance and hopefully the food will not be cold and the service won't be so slow.
We arrived and were told they were closed and had no reservation. It was very disappointing as we had made the reservation early in the day to avoid searching late that night.
Margarita pitchers were huge! The fajitas were really good as well.
Excellent food and service at a reasonable price. I HIGHLY recommend the Carnes en sure Jugo, which I was told by our waiter, Eduardo, is the most authentic Mexican dish they serve an a recipe of the owner's great-grandmother. Perfecto! I would classify this as a mid-range family restaurant with a very good, extensive menu with food prepared with attention to detail, fresh ingredients (homemade soft corn tortillas, freshly made guacamole - both excellent), and reasonable prices. We will be going back.

We found San Marcos using an Open Table search on Christmas Eve. The floor plan is spacious for large parties, but had nooks for intimate dining. The decor is vibrant and inviting. Food is well-crafted and fresh with plenty of options. Service was friendly and accommodating.
The server was pleasant and attentive but the food not great. The chicken chimichanga was just ok and the chicken tacos also average. The margarita was horrible- the mixer was very sugary. Kins of pricey for average Mexican food.
Good food; fast good time with friends ; am a repeat visitor. Highly recommend this place.
We had a very good meal and enjoyed ourselves very much.
San Marcos could be very good, but they skimp on the ingredients. The flavor and seasoning of the Carne en su Jugo was very good, but the beef was stringy and chewy. The mole sauce on the Burrito San Marcos was delicious, but the chicken was dry and tough. The Churro ice cream was good, but the shell it was in was so hard that we really struggled to cut it with the spoons (it took two spoons) that they gave us and it ended up being a soupy mess. We ordered a 16 oz. drink that looked like it was 8 oz. We complained and the waiter insisted it was 16 oz. Service was also a somewhat slow considering that the restaurant was over half empty. Too bad. Lovely decour, but we will not be returning.
I got an MSG "overdose" from this place. Wow! Why do you put MSG in Mexican food??? I am very sensitive to MSG, so would be more likely to have a reaction, but even my husband, who is not, wasn't feeling great after the meal. My reaction to MSG... Extreme sleepiness, and in this case, I could not keep my eyes open at 730 PM, very tight jaw, headachy, naseous and really out of it for 2 hours. The rest of my evening was ruined and the next day i had an MSG hangover, out of it, headachy and naseous all day. I haven't had a reaction like this in ages, the meal had to be heavily dosed MSG in the seasonings. Beware if you have any sensitivity at all to MSG. I will NEVER eat here again.
The meat in my fajitas could have more flavor, very bland. Would like to have guacamole made fresh tableside.
Our waitress took amazing care of us! 13 people didn’t faze her a bit! She was wonderful- we appreciated it so much!
Food barely resembled its description and was poorly prepared. A bit overpriced for the quality.
Hostess was terrible. Not friendly, disorganized when we arrived, and the menus had gross old food stuck to them. When we mentioned it to the hostess she could care a less.
Server was VERY slow, and jd no idea what he was doing.
Food was average, service was painfully slow, and the staff oblivious to customers.
Later in the day we did not feel good after eating the food.
Freekin delicious! ENJOY! Great Mexican food!!
the food and service was good. however, our reservation through opentable was for 7:15pm, we got to the restaurant at 7:05pm. our table wasnt ready until 7:35pm, we had to wait for the other guests to finish with their meal. Mentioned to the manager that we had a reservation and were there early, no reason why our table wasnt ready. he had no explanation. the manager should have offerered an appetizer or desert to the table, but no such offer was made ( very disappointing ) considering it was their fault our table wasnt ready. the waiter was very good and the food was good as well. management needs to do a much better job of having the reservation times in mind, especially for a group of 20 people.
We had a few people in our party get the wrong items but they were very good about fixing the problem and getting us our food as quickly as they could.
We booked our reservation on OpenTable a week out. Called the restaurant the afternoon of our reservation to see if we could bring another couple, at which point they informed us they were not honoring any reservations for that evening, including the one we had already made. They apparently weren't going to let us know this until we showed up. We know it was a busy night for them (Cinco de Mayo), but that's why we made a reservation in the first place. Inexcusable, and they weren't even apologetic.
We had a reservation on Cinco De Mayo and waited over 45 minutes past our reservation time for a table. Maybe don’t offer reservations next year if you can’t honor them. Other than that, it was great. Loved the margarita bar in the lobby. Made the wait-time more bearable. Food was amazing, too.
We were sat quickly and ordering went well. After food was delivered the service was extremely poor. We finished our meal and waited OVER 20 minutes, with empty plates and glasses, for our server (or anyone else) to return! We had intended to have more drinks and desserts however once the server finally returned, she dropped off the check without asking if we would like anything else. Food was as expected, chips and salsa was good and fresh. I had the Mexican burrito and my date had the tacos de lengua. I’d go back to try the outside patio as long as we had a different server.
The food is very good and the portions are generous. Very good value for how much food you get. The margaritas were really good; everyone in the group got a different one and we all agreed they were worth the price. Quiet area behind the mall and it felt very private even though it was close to a lot of shops.
Really enjoy San Marcos. The food is always hot and tasty. The service is always good. Our server, Esther, was very good and very pleasant and very efficient. I will be back again soon.
Our reservation was honored immediately and we were seated where requested. Service was just fair. Mistakes were made on food orders and food was not checked before runners brought them to table. Requests for service items and corrections needed repeating multiple times and were slow. Once delivered food was very good. Shrimp and bacon dish was especially nice. Fajitas were very good as well.
Great service! Awesome food!
Service was great! Food was great! Drinks were fantastic! Only negative thing about the experience were the parties of people there that were extremely loud.
Good food, a few nice wine values and attractive setting.
great service, waitress was pleasant and friendly, food was very good. This was my first visit and I was pleasantly surprised.
Went out for "girls night", and this was the perfect spot for us! Beautiful patio to sit outside, Karen gave us fabulous service, I'm sure we were way too loud and over the top but the wait staff didn't mind at all! This will absolutely be our go-to spot this summer.
Great food and good service. The strawberry mojito was a delicious find.
Dips were good. Food was average. Menu exceeds the quality. Was very busy so someone was happy with this restaurant. I will not likely return. There are far better “Mexican “ restaurants around Raleigh.
