Experience one of South Korea’s best traditional Korean BBQ’s at Samwon Garden BBQ.
We had a terrific time with my daughter and her Korean-born boyfriend, who showed us old folks the ropes. The food was terrific, though I would prefer a little more time to sit and eat and would like to have done more of our own cooking. BUT it was Saturday night. The price was good for the fresh tasty food we had, though our young Korean friend is appalled at what K-BBQ costs in the US.
Excellent food and service, go with friends to share BBQ at the table. There are vents above the table. The staff Keep coming by to make sure that the food is cooked to perfection, a great variety of cocktails available, and many small plates with Korean delicacies accompany your BBQ meal. Only negative is it is noisy but only because the music is too loud. Otherwise I think you would easily hear your dinner companions.
Good service. Good quality of different kind of beef.
Perfect beef. Next time I’ll choose Japanese wagu. Very good service and very great side dishes. Especially the Kimchi. My favorite Kimchi, not one of!
Made reservation for 6
They gave us third floor seating. Next to the kitchen prep area. It was too noisy and hearing cos rant glass and utensils was not great for my party. So I asked for Cha he of table and they were accommodating.
We had my husband’s birthday dinner here. I was disappointed at the smoke all over the third floor, the VERY slow service (we had to flag another server down even for our drinks), our unfriendly server (who actually left her shift half way through her meal and didn’t tell us), and the loud environment (a table of unaccompanied teens next to us being super loud and the server saying nothing). The food was excellent but it was not an awesome experience, which is sad because it was my husband’s 50th birthday and it’s not a cheap meal. We won’t return.
We craved genuine, fresh Korean BBQ. The host was able to seat us with a minimal wait. The waitress was attentive and personable. She cooked our meal to perfection. The meal itself was savory, and fresh.
Food was great though they are very quick to get things bbq. We had to tell them to give us sometime to finish up what was already cooked. Service was great as people were very accommodating. The seating is rather tight.
Super fun to share the entire meal with your friends. The BBQ for four was a great value. Lots of delicious food. WAit staff were friendly and helpful.
Enjoyed our dinner. Service was excellent.
Had a reservation for 6 people. They sat us at a very small table with only 1 burner. It was definitely too cramped!!
Food was good, but small portions. I think it’s a bit overpriced and probably wouldn’t come back
The best Korean BBQ in NYC, hands down. Don’t sleep on the egg soufflé or pork shoulder galbi. Unique dishes but also all the hits and classic KBBQ fare. Incredible attention to detail from cooks grilling meat and friendly staff overall. Fabulous drinks too!
The food was great. The service was amazing!!! Can not complain about anything. Love the fact that they didn’t have a huge wait although I did make a reservation but I came late with a few friends and didn’t have to wait.
Great food as always. Service is very good.
Was the best Korean BBQ I’ve had. Can't wait to visit shortly.
Great food, great ambiance, and nice decor. The place was packed and the waitstaff let us know with plenty of time that the table was reserved for another party 2 hrs later. Excellent service!
Service quality has been declining noticeably over the last year or so
Service was quick and efficient. Food was tasty, but a bit pricey.
The meat they served was very high quality and the services was very fast.
Food was excellent. Truly delicious. Don’t expect “warm” service. Courses and general attention was extremely rushed. They were definitely trying to turn over our table - seemingly as soon as we sat down! Great food, but also very expensive.
Great food, fun experience, but very VERY loud. Only go if you don't mind a noisy experience and if you are the type of person that can talk loud enough to be heard.
They cancelled our reservation for 12 people with less than 2 hours notice due to alleged kitchen issues. However, restaurant was open and serving people at the time of our reservation. Terrible business practice and ethics. Also undermines the integrity of Open Table if reservations are not honored.
So rushed, the drinks came after all the food is served.
Always good, eaten on many occasions and plan to go back.
My first time trying Korean BBQ. I am sure it is considered a very good restaurant but not my taste at all.
Way too expensive to come with such bad service and their portion sizes are inconsistent- sometimes you get 1 piece with Samwon Galbi, sometimes 2, and each time you get a different explanation why - and for that price I expect consistency and generosity. Also the service this time was abysmal. I love the food here but taking everything into consideration, especially how poor the service was this time, I’m no longer a fan and will not return - what a shame.
The door from the kitchen is dangerous. A member of our party was hit hard in the head by someone blindly opening the door into walking space in the restaurant.
Food and service was very good as usual.
Came here for my husbands birthday. The restaurant is great- beautiful setting, modern and clean. The service is quick and concise. Keep in mind they cook the food for you at your table, you sit back and watch, all while enjoying your food. It does happen very quickly, so be prepared to eat fast!!
The food is AMAZING and completely worth the price. The BBQ service is a great experience, and you receive a LOT of food. My husband and I struggled to finish the spread between the two of us.
Highly recommended for any occasion, and all ages!
Probably one of the best Korean barbecue I have ever had. It is traditional but modernly efficient. The service was exceptional. The quality of meats and side dishes are excellent. I would go back there again on my next trip to NYC.
Very good food and good value overall. We’ve been coming here for about a year and BBQ is always consistent. Service is also very efficient. The amount of meat is relatively small per portion but it comes with many “extras” that will make you full, yet craving for more meat (yes, it’s that good). In short, a great place to visit for a table side cooking with family or clients
I am always looking for the ideal bulgogi (short rib BBQ) and banchan (side dishes). This was good, and I would go back, but I'm still searching for perfection.
The service was great and the food was equally amazing!! This place is a gem in Koreatown!!!
No dessert offered
Amazing food and experience. Definitely going back on my next trip to the city.
made a reservation on opentable last sunday, went to the restaurant and the person in the front struggled to find our reservation and snapped at me for making the reservation about 40 mins ago. (If they didn't want to accept reservations at a short, why did they let it happen?) Anyways, they got us seated and the place is not very well air-conditioned so that was a little unpleasant...Wish it was more cooler so we could enjoy the various hot foods they served. Food was good, came out pretty fast, service was good except for the unpleasant front desk person's attitude.
Hostesses are very un-accomodating.
Loud music and unable to hear any conversation.
service is not bad, but not good either.
food is very pricey and lots of things considered 'included' in other Korean restaurants need to be ordered.
The ambiance and service were good. I like the restaurant decor - chic and rustic. The servers were prompt to cook the barbecue for us. Water service was spot on. For me the food was average. It was not a wow compared to the other Korean restaurants I have eaten in - just regular Korean flavor. I have tasted a more variety of appetizers in other Korean restaurants. Overall, I will still recommend Samwon Garden to a friend. It is reasonably priced.
seated promptly at our reservation time, steak tatare x 2 was superb, my rib eye and my wifes short ribs were outstanding. the young wait staff cooks at your table and answers any questions, the bologi kimchi fries were an unexpected treat
I made a reservations for 3pm but my appointment firsted early so i headed over there. Luckily they were about to accommodate me at an earlier time. I definitely believe that during dinner time it would be packed but we went at a perfect time! Service was great and helpful with our questions regarding the food.
