Sam's By The Beach, opened in July 2000 as a neighborhood bistro, and has become a destination restaurant, thanks to its innovative food and comfortable yet elegant dining experience. Elias, inspired by his heritage, considers the cuisine to be California-Mediterranean, with an emphasis on high quality ingredients. "I enjoy going to the Central Market each day to purchase my vegetables and seafood. It keeps me in touch with what is fresh, and helps me to plan my menus." Sam's menu is seasonal and changes at least four times per year. In addition, there are daily specials and a chef tasting menu based on what Elias discovers at the market. Regular menu items include appetizers of Blue "Fin" Tartar ($17.95), Wild Mushroom Salad in lemon basil dressing ($13.95) and Fennel and Blood Orange Soup ($9.95); and entrées include Vegetarian Crepes ($23.95), Grilled Atlantic Salmon with braised Swiss Chard and roasted Jerusalem artichoke ($26.95), Roasted Duck Magret with poached Pear.

Sam's is just the most wonderful restaurant! We love the quiet and quaint atmosphere, the very excellent service, the exceptional and creative dishes. Just fabulous in every way. And Sam is absolutely charming!

Sam's is hands down the best quilts meal you can find on the west side. The flavors and attention to detail with every item we have tried is impeccable. The personal service and friendly staff make this place one not to miss.

What a hidden gem!! A really intimate place to have a great meal, exceptional service, and quiet conversation. Amazing seasonal appetizers, nice selection of main courses, and decadent desserts! My only suggestion would be to have some of the sauces on the side if you like your dishes a little lighter. Self-parking is non-existent so the somewhat steep $10 valet is almost mandatory. We will definitely eat here again!

We were treated to warmth of service and wonder of tastes. The food was amazing - the other reviews spoke well of the delight we experienced! All of those attending to our needs were particularly considerate and welcoming, but it was when our waiter brought a box of Kleenex over during a particularly difficult point in our conversation that Sams cemented itself as a restaurant we will ever forget. We look forward to the time when we can join them again and the tears will be from laughter instead of difficulty.

This is a rare gem that is perfect for a nice evening out with your significant other. Sam and his team deliver professional and attentive service. The food is excellent, there is a great selection of French wines and the desserts are not to be missed. You may have driven past Sam's and not noticed it before, but do yourself a favor and make plans to go there. It will quickly become your favorite spot for a nice evening out.

Don't let the unassuming exterior of Sam's put you off! The interior is cozy and cute and the food and service are wonderful. We were looking for something away from the crazy nightlife of Santa Monica and near our B&B. Sam's was perfect for a leisurely dinner while on vacation.

Nothing leaves the kitchen without Sam's review and approval. Very generous portions. Great selection, extraordinary menu. Mostly traditional but done very creatively. Specials are beyond extraordinary. Never, ever disappointing. Most importantly, the food cannot be beat.

A last minute decision that turned out to be wonderful. Boulliabase was scrumptious . Mushroom and mozzarella was flavorful. Wine choice just right . And Michel the Host was friendly, cheerful and made excellent recommendations. We would return for certain.

Sadly, this is the first unenthusiastic review I have ever written. No, it's not bad. It's just that the food is not good enough to go back to. The service is a little erratic. It appears to be family run and staffed and not professional. One nice thing is that it is a very small place, which means that it is not noisy and therefore easy to have a conversation.
